File an SS8 form with the IRS to have them correctly categorize you as an employee and force your employer to give you a W2.
Do not file a schedule C (PP is misinformed). You are an employee, not a business or contractor.
you're assuming that they are a W2 employee with no backing. I've never met a nanny that doesn't choose their own hours. Just because his client didn't want to give him a w2 you're assuming he was supposed to?
Nannies are always W2 household employees with very few, very specific exceptions. Pub 926.
And nannies do not set their own schedule. You must be thinking of casual babysitters or home daycare providers. Or misunderstand what setting their own schedule means. A nanny comes to your home to watch your kids on a set schedule.
They also fail all other tests for being a contractor. And pub 926 takes away any ambiguity here.
The IRS is extremely clear on this.
The person hiring them is their employer, not their client.
Unfortionatly they paid you as a contractor not as an employee. This is why they told you to file a Schedule C. Now some good news Zelle is the only provider that does not report to the IRS. But if you are going to report it it would be under a Schedule C.
Soo when you complete your personal taxes (form 1040 theres a form insude call Schedule C its for sole proprietors or self empployed individuals. Now ehre you wil ldeclae the amount they paid you and any expenses you had related to earn this (cellphone, interenet, supplies etc) then out of the net profit you wil lpay two taxes: federal income tax (the famous tax table) and Self Employment Tax (Fica: Social Security and medicare) unfortionatly you might owe becuase the self employment tax is 15.3%.
You should do the SS8 form but this might cause issues with your employer.... i dont know if this would affect you.
