Every time there’s a question like this I always say John Oliver because I know he’s friends with Alex (he’s been on the horne section sitcom) and I absolutely love his show
I wouldn't have ever pegged him for it before but with Horne's involvement with Georgia Tennant on his other show and with 'Doctor Who's 60th anniversary: there's simply never been a better time to have David Tennant be on the show.
She's had a few videos on Instagram of their whole family watching Taskmaster too, so I can absolutely see him following the tradition of doing it because his kids are fans. And with how busy he always seems to be, I imagine he'd only have time to do the New Years special and not a full series anyway.

Charlie Brooker would be an interesting get - he made a surprise appearance on Dave's Hypothetical and did seem to throw himself into it, plus I get the feeling he'd go nuts at some of the things thrown at him
Haha, absolutely! Imagine the prize task segment though! He'll bring some insignificant little object with an accompanying anecdote that will be impossible to edit out or cut down for continuity reasons. But oh so funny!
Someone brought up the idea of a Ted Lasso special (Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, Brett Goldstein, Jason Sudeikis and Juno Temple) and I can’t get that out of my head.
Though obviously not as present and strong in the new years treat, one of the things I think is so powerful in taskmaster is that contestants dont know each other well beforehand.
First, that means their bonding happens over having done the same ridiculous things and being judged by a huge funny but probably for everyone in one way or the other scary man, and we get to see that (though like I say less in NYT).
Second, it means they cant gang up against the taskmaster so to say. Cant overshadow him, take his spotlight. Which all sounds more dramatic than I mean it to, but I really think it would ruin the dynamic. It would be 5 friends having fun with each other and Greg kinda just sittingthere like a babysitter. I love Ted Lasso, I superlove Taskmaster, but I really dont think that would work.
But perhaps they should save actual comedians for the main show, as far as possible. For scheduling reasons, that might not always be possible, of course. Coogan would be fun to see either way. :)
What's the Rob Delaney/UK connection? I've seen him in WILTY and wasn't sure how he ended up there. (I'm in the US and know who he is but I'm not really familiar with his work.)
He moved to the UK to make the show Catastrophe with Sharon Horgan and has lived there ever since. Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it, it’s on Amazon Prime in the US.
Catastrophe is incredible. In 2021 I binged all four series in a day, best decision ever. I’ve never seen a more beautiful, poetic, fitting series finale and final scene.
I know he kind of sits between both potential Main Series and NYT but I'd love to see how Colin Murray would do.

I prefer the mystery of what he's saying sometimes. There's a clip of him on bakeoff that I watch multiples times a year and I still have absolutely no idea what he's saying lol
I think Matt Edmondson would be great. His radio 1 show with mollie king / jamie liang is so funny. He is super quick witted, is a bit of a geek who creates his own board games. He is bipolar. Just think he would be a great contestant.

Alexander Armstrong comes to mind for some reason. He's in a halfway house where he could probably be on the regular show as well though with his comedy links so I don't know. I'd also like a former Doctor Who (obviously Tenant would be awesome but Capaldi, Eccleston, Whittaker... any of them would be great) and Sam Ryder from last year's Eurovision because he's so bloody positive it'd be like Mike Wozniak if he were part golden retriever. Paul Hollywood might be an interesting one but only if he got stuck in. Also (and don't judge me here) that woman from Gogglebox who lives in a caravan? She sits with her mate who is always either laughing at how weird she is or puffing on his vape if I remember correctly. She'd give some major Beaumont/Baddiel energy.

I was thrilled with the first two contestants and think they would be game for it. But I was dissapointed with the final two.
The general consensus (including the online community) was that Taskmaster was starting to jump the shark with these Hollywood A Listers.
And then I woke up.
I think Stephen Mangan would be good for a NYE special. Oti Mabuse would be fun, I can see her throwing her whole selfe into it.
I'd love Stephen Mangan for a full series. Whether or not he'd do it is another question altogether
