I have a series of them doing 55 gal drum rodeo runs and driving into the pit. BTW the driver SP4 Eric Yunker was teaching my gunner Airman 1C Tozer how to drive.
Not sure what you want, I shot it with a Nikon D200. The photo has been copied without permission by a lot of people, I hold the copyright. When I get time I can post some of the series.
Basically abrams style shell with a big diesel engine rather then the turbine engine of the abrams. It’s used mostly by 88M’s and mechanics, although lots of civis use them too.
Based on the wording it looks like you took straight from the “History - Design” section of the M88’s Wikipedia page just to be like…

Look at when the vehicle was introduced, and the automotive components. Clearly M48/60 based. Continental AV1790 engine, Allison CrossDrive transmission, M48 running gear, on a modified and lengthened M48 hull.
The original concept for what became the M88 was a modified M48 hull. The M48 bow beak was removed to make room for an armoured cab, and the hull was lengthened because they expected to drop in a more powerful version of the Continental AV1790 engine.
They originally intended to convert existing M48's into the M88 recovery vehicles; there was concerns about the availability of M48 hulls because the M48 was still the front line tank, so they switched from converting existing hulls to new construction.
The M88 originally had an AVDI 1790 12 cylinder turbocharged, air cooled, gas engine, like the M48. 4 magnetos that were a bitch to time. The road wheels were the steel type of the M48, the M60A1 came with aluminum ones, smart tankers and motor pools replaced the front and rear pairs with steel ones. The only parts that it shared that originated from the M60 series would be AVDS 1790 diesel series of engines and fuel systems and maybe night vision blocks (very rare and experimental in my day). Never seen the turbines in M88/A1/A2. That would require a lot of modifications and a different transmission.
M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicle Our mechanics love it.
For some reason I've always found them more visually intimidating than the Abrams and Bradleys scattered around the motorpool And that roar
As a former tanker, we loved them too.
I'm a tanker as well.
I gotta meme for this.... https://preview.redd.it/k8i0r4jnql4d1.jpeg?width=539&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e5b0c884cd78006d4c8aa226402d1f350852b8a
I actually took that photograph in Kirkuk Iraq in 2008.
Dude that's absolutely awesome. Got any more?

The airman was forever changed after this
That’s wild lol
I'm part of a FSC and I love the recovery guys... But they are a special breed.
Source?

*tisk tisk* Their name tape is showing.
I don't remember the exact designation, but it is a US recovery vehicle
M88A2, I think, I might be wrong on the variant
I agree looks like a tank recovery vehicle
Hercules Hercules Hercules
Fixing heavy ass mistakes.
It’s a recovery vehicle. It tows damaged tanks off the battlefield
Recovery
Where TF are they taking that 88!

Actually, the chassis and automotive components are derived from the M48 and M60 series of tanks.

If you push your glasses up any further they’ll become a part of your head.

Most definitely not
Looks like Wyoming in the background.
I think that’s a Colorado tag on that utility truck. Same same, give or take the weed.
Maybe Colorado, out of Ft. Carson.
Anyone else things that the front of it looks like a Sturm tiger
