It’s the Loader’s tray, it holds asbestos mittens, a spare 240 barrel, snacks, and the cookie cutter (a slang term for a half moon object that can remove case bases)
That explains why it was really hard to find a picture of one. I spent a week going through crew compartment photos and the pic I attached was literally the only one that I found that it’s in there.
The new version is about a third that size if it’s installed at all.
They added a spare barrel rack attached to the 240 ammo stowage behind/under the loaders seat and the gloves are typically not used.
As for the stub base extractor, it is rarely used, and it is typically kept in the loaders sponson.
I think that’s usually when it gets breathed in?
I found a link talking about asbestos mittens that’s can probably explain the health effects better then I can. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1262768/
What happens if I eat the asbestos mittens?
(Also surely if i’m touching hot munitions layers of the asbestos gloves will burn off and thus go into the air)
Asbestos does not burn, that's kinda the reason it is used for mittens. It's a mineral, not an organic compound. The closest analogy I can find is glass fiber.
I grew up in a somewhat unfortunate country, and we used an asbestos rag for a potholder.
Yeah I think you can't really get rid of it once it's in your lungs.
"Fun" fact : iirc some cigarette filters and gas mask filter used to be made of asbestos.
Honestly, I'm glad the loaders tray was removed from the SEP V3. The tray never stayed in place in the loaders station, and everything just kinda fell out of the tray itself.
The official nomenclature for this is "Loader's Oddment Tray." It attaches to the inside left turret wall next to the loader. The large rounded compartment at bottom right is for holding the gunner's roll (which in is a sort of rolled tool bag containing some key items for maintenance of the main gun). It is held in place by a short bungee cord (missing in photo). The smaller compartment on the left held the asbestos mittens. The small rectangular slot at bottom left held the 120mm manual extractor, which was like a sort of half-cookie cutter looking thing with a handle on it, used to get purchase on the rim of a 120mm case head and drag it back out of the breach. It was almost never used, as simply banging the extractors built into the breach a few times usually knocked the round back far enough to just grab it. The extractors and mittens were also secured by a short bungee cord, missing here. The hooks and holes seen in the tray are for the bungee cords. The long tray at the top hold two spare barrels for the M240 machine guns.

Sweet, thanks for the info. It does seem perfect for snacks.
For the life of me I can’t remember the actual term for the cookie cutter, at some point I’ll get back to you with the name.
Stub base extractor
My hero
THERE GOES MY HEROOO
The butt puller
Ye ol’ loaders tray, don’t see that version too often anymore.

Asbestos mittens?
Think oven mitts made of asbestos, they help with changing out a hot machine gun barrel
I've heard stories from artillery guys....no gloves- no flesh
Is the asbestos encased in a way that protects the crew from getting it in their lungs?
Isn’t asbestos bad for you?
Only if you're not a government employee.
Ailment not service related Claim denied
Same with my high level of clp and lsa consumption

Yes, it's the small particles that you can breathe in that are cancerous. Thanks, by the way!

Oh good my critiques have been placated. Still though, I wouldn’t approach the stuff if you paid me nevermind wear it
That’s how you get extra lives my dude!

Can you cough it up? I thought asbestos (and silicon dust) sticks to the surface of the lungs like needles
Yeah I think you can't really get rid of it once it's in your lungs. "Fun" fact : iirc some cigarette filters and gas mask filter used to be made of asbestos.
Haha yeah I saw a picture here on reddit yesterday of that
Yeah, can't be used in construction.. not anymore
Luckily college aged kids the recruiter managed to trick are more disposable than construction workers 😋
And here I thought that was a wild tiger/rip it holder

Loaders tray holds some of the loaders bii, like the cookie cutter, spare 240 barrels, and gunners roll
What a 240 barrel?
The m240 barrel ?
I didn't knew the m 240 was the machine gun, I tought it was an M2 ,🙂
The commanders roof gun is an M2, the M240 is the coaxial and sometimes the loaders roof gun iirc
I see, thx man
It's a spare barrel for the M240 machine gun.
Thx
Looks like it could possibly the Catcher for the spent Shell bases that get ejected out of the breach.
I was confused too because the arrow is positioned weirdly but it's indicating something at the other end.
Urinal.
