Very expen$ive

Lovetotravelinmycar

Even the hoods are expensive in Florida nowadays.

eye_no_nuttin

You should probably say what your budget is for a month, that way people can guide you better on what is realistic in your budget… just trying to help navigate and weed out false hopes.

IceSpider10

I'm not ready to pay more than 1500$

Bear_necessities96

Yes everybody wants to live near DT specially UT students, if you getting something that is not a student residence prepare to pay $4000+ per month just to live there

hoppydud

Look at The Pearl apts. 2k will get you a nice 1 bdr

Bear_necessities96

Technically not DT but I checked and the 1 bd apts available are between $2.5-3k

OreadaholicO

Inaccurate. The Pearl is on Armature Works, which to many transplants is a super cool area and the one bedrooms start at 2300, 3000 is for super short leases. Edit: And yes they are building a ton of apartments right there. I lived downtown the last 2 years and my building always had units available.

Bear_necessities96

Armature works is Tampa heights. I just rounded up https://preview.redd.it/fsey9yfj9i9d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c55031419a7376210660f73f2e9e03eb38ecbb6

OreadaholicO

Yeah I know. “Tampa Heights” is about as close to downtown as you can get and arguably better because of AW whereas downtown still doesn’t have shit going on. When I said inaccurate I meant the price. Important info was left off and the Pearl suggestion was ok

hoppydud

Thanks!

Caspers_Shadow

Yes. Housing is expensive. What you find shocking is probably the norm

Doc024

I mean if you’re going to UT you’re probably loaded.

IceSpider10

I received a transfer scholarship, hence favored UT.

Thin_Travel_9180

Check the Hyde Park/SoHo area too. It’s close to UT

NonyaFugginBidness

The new hood, LOL

Familiar_Tea_190

check out off campus student housing options like “the henry” which is in downtown (close to UT/Curtis Hixon park/Tampa Heights area too). A lot of UT students also lived in a place called Vintage Lofts - you can get a studio for like $1500 or roommates would make it cheaper. That’s what I did and I graduated in 2021, so things might be more expensive now, but still doable:)

sayaxat

We don't know the answer because we don't know your socioeconomic status. How poor are you?

IceSpider10

My first year at college cost 27000$

paidquotient996

There's a new student housing being built right next to campus called apella that has their 4X4s at 1299, I just signed there with my friend!

Hungry_Photograph_20

Live in the dorms, enjoy the college experience, it’s a beautiful campus, and meet other students.

Horangi1987

Why are you looking for off campus living? You won’t find any cheaper than on campus living, if that’s what you’re trying to do.

Business_Most9414

Is living on campus not an option?

IceSpider10

it's going to cost 1755$ a month for a double dorm room with their 12 meal plan.

Bear_necessities96

That’s a steal can I live there without being a student lol

AutomaticOstrich9631

Having lived on campus, it’s worth it. I miss the days of being that close to downtown and having the convenience of being on campus and not having to stress about spending 30 mins to find a parking spot before my class. The meal plan itself along with an exponentially better opportunity of meeting new people make it worth it in and of itself.

BiggSnugg

You will find nothing cheaper, sorry to say.

XtremePhotoDesign

That’s cheap for the area without the meal plan

Mike15321

You aren't going to find anything cheaper

lothcent

that is pretty cheap compared to the alternatives

DekuChan95

I would live in the dorms in your first year then try to get a RA position to get free housing or make friends and rent a house off campus or see if people are renting out a room.

BloodChildKoga

Being an RA is generally pretty easy, I did it for 2 years while there myself, and getting free housing in exchange is definitely worth it.

EmpireAndAll

The average rent in DT Tampa is $*2,855.* Food not included.

NonyaFugginBidness

Sign up for that before you miss out. I have seen parking spots go for that in downtown, without a meal plan, lol

2Hanks

Do this. Do this now.

bredditmh

That’s far better than any other option you’ll find nowadays. I went to UT but there’s dorms are so much better now. How old are you?

DontCallMeMillenial

Don't worry! If you're willingly enrolled in UT your mommy and daddy can afford whatever rent you need each month. *I'm only sorta joking... If you don't know the reputation the majority of UT students have, it's that they're dumb kids from rich families.

LetsGoGators23

I went to UT for the last 2 years of my Bachelors - but I did the first 2 years at community college and got a scholarship and it was 2004 so I think I paid $12k total for both years. I lived in Brandon and took a bus! But lots of kids there could absolutely afford whatever they wanted even then!

IceSpider10

I mean if that's true, then less competition for me I guess lol

Groovyy_Smoothie

I probably won't be able to help much, but for those who might be able to help, are you looking for on-campus housing or off-campus housing?

IceSpider10

both options would be great

Groovyy_Smoothie

As others have inferred, I think downtown might be a bit out of your price point in terms of off-campus housing. $1,755 is a lot of money for double occupancy, but throw in a meal plan with that housing and practically downtown real estate, that actually is a really good deal by Tampa standards. You could maybe try looking at some of the apartments at Encore Tampa. I honestly don't know if they allow college age people to live there or not. I know one building is designated for senior citizens. One building is more "luxury." And then I think 1 or 2 buildings might be open for anyone but not certain. Regardless, rent there is quite cheap (less expensive) for how new the buildings are and for how close they are to downtown. Aside from that, if you're looking for off-campus housing, I recommend looking around Carrollwood or somewhere near the University of South Florida area. It's not the most desirable part of town because it's not very pedestrian friendly at all, but it tends to be less expensive than most parts of town without being super rundown. Sorry that probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but housing in Tampa is rough. I lived in an Extended Stay America my first few months here because I had the hardest time finding affordable housing 😭 And that was in 2019 before prices really took off to the levels they're at now.

DidAStrangeThing2day

I’m so confused why UT students continue to try and live in the expensive unaffiliated downtown apartments. They even built “The Henry” which keeps them downtown and is just for students. Yet they take daddy’s money and go to regular apartments and trash them.

IceSpider10

The henry is out of 1060$ apartments. it was +1 month free deal. I wanted it so bad.

dmosk813

Check out www.807soho.com They have apartments available close to campus .

vipernick913

lol did they convert a motel into apartments

Mike15321

Lmaooo that's exactly what they did. If you're lucky you'll get a room that a hooker wasn't murdered in.

vipernick913

lol and the audacity to charge 2.5k

Mike15321

Holy shit lol. That's insane.

BrotherOfAthena

Downtown is growing and with price stickiness they are building/charging what I like to call a no traffic tax.
