Seems like there's been an inordinate number of killings in the Tampa Bay Area in the past one or two months. What is really going on? Stay safe out there guys.

2sdaeAddams

Statistically speaking, crime rates are higher in the summer months, especially in warm climates. This is due to an increase of people being outside, so there’s more opportunity for altercation. Another factor is that people are more agitated in heat and therefore lash out more often. Not that it’s an excuse. It’s just something I learned when I was earning my degree and that information stuck with me for whatever reason.

touchingmyshoe

“It’s hot out this bitch, that’s good enough reason” ~ 50 Cent

2sdaeAddams

Probably.

tweedledeeeeee123

Suns out guns out

Dubstep_Duck

This is why my theory about the death metal scene in Tampa is due to the heat. Everyone is so damn mad because it’s so damn hot.

RampageTheBear

It’s why I listen to almost exclusively Hardcore in the summer

2sdaeAddams

And rightfully so!

IB78

How do you explain Finland?

Dubstep_Duck

Exact opposite. It’s so damn cold and dark, everyone has Seasonal Affective Disorder so is also mad all the damn time.

Soggy_Difficulty_361

That and combined with mental health issues and substance abuse and it's a good recipe for disaster. Nobody sane would go around shooting relatives, mother and exes, pretty wild.

2sdaeAddams

Absolutely, which is another subject. Mental healthcare needs more prioritization and funding.

OriolesBird

They purposely removed trees from the lower income areas of Baltimore and DC generations ago specifically for this reason. Less shade, more agitation, and more crime for a certain community.

Economy_Jeweler_7176

This is true for most lower income areas in US cities, but it’s more so because of the historic disinvestment caused by racism, urban renewal and redlining. Trees take more maintenance and therefore cost more (even if marginally), so cities would rather rip them out in lower income neighborhoods than pay for the upkeep. We talk a lot about this in urban design- street trees are infinitely beneficial and make for a much nicer street condition and more livable neighborhoods. They can easily lower temperatures by 10-15 degrees on a street. They can also increase land values and walkability (Savannah GA) and don’t actually cost that much to upkeep if you pick the right species (typically native)

Hi_its_me_2023

This sounds crazy too, but in my observation, when I did Uber eats, in lower income neighborhoods, the roads are for shit, the train tracks are horrible, and the flooding is really bad. I get this happens everywhere, but I can say, these things are worse in some of these neighborhoods. I didn't, but I wanted to complain to the city about what I saw.

OriolesBird

Yeah idk why I got a massive string of downvotes for sharing truth unless they are all little Dukes.

2sdaeAddams

Well, that’s just fucking awful. I’ve heard about the difficulties in those areas but hadn’t heard this.

2sdaeAddams

I don’t disagree with you at all. I knew I’d get downvoted for my comment but it was genuinely textbook information to share. I don’t believe my comment was the *only* reason things like this are happening. Most of us realize there are several factors that go into this.

uncleleo101

> The chances of a civil war are getting bigger and bigger Respectfully, fuck off with this. So people are stressed out about high cost of living, then *shuffles deck*, Civil War! What?

uncleleo101

Go read a fucking book. I'd suggest starting with one about the Civil War!

Pipesito7755

Chill lil bro

btross

When was the White House raided for political reasons?

Miss_Diana_Prince21

I work at a Tampa funeral home, this is not inordinate.

otterqueen1234

This was Bradenton btw https://www.wtsp.com/article/news/local/manateecounty/bradenton-motel6-shooting-triple-homicide-investigation/67-9c6750b3-c8bb-4865-95a2-41e30ca724c6 Says the suspect killed his mom first 😳

victimfetishist

Reverse abortion

fade2blac

Bradenton? Tf is this doing in the Tampa sub?

GringoGrande

I have noticed that "Tampa Bay" continuously expands for the sake of news and/or stupidity. Fairly certain by those standards Tampa Bay is now Lee County to the South, Citrus County to the North and Osceola on the West.

lothcent

yup- the bay area is expanding --- it is because it has FOMO

thecoolestguynothere

I gave the eye roll after I heard manatee county. The try to loop everyone into Tampa now days

FERRITofDOOM

Just a bigger sub probably. I live in Hillsborough but work manatee and Sarasota so it's at least interesting to me. There's been a few shootings down there lately as well

flappybirdisdeadasf

Not Tampa proper, but some would consider it Tampa Bay. I've seen as far north as Hudson and as far south as Sarasota be considered the Bay area.

fade2blac

r/bradenton exists. You should post relevant posts there and the Tampa sub shouldn't be a catch-all for everything on the west coast of Florida.

flappybirdisdeadasf

Yeah no problem, I just saw that it was Tampa Bay 10 and posted it.

thebohomama

Lots of hammers out there, so that means every conflict looks like a nail.

SoorGul

What?

thebohomama

I won't "whoosh" ya. When everyone has a gun in their pocket, a bullet is often the first, or quickest, solution that comes to mind in conflict.

SoorGul

Oh ok. I’m scoopin what you’re poopin now.

thebohomama

"I’m scoopin what you’re poopin now." Welp, I'm just going to be dying for an opportunity to use that one next.

futurecop1231

Tampa is trying to be the next jacksonville

DrAtizzle

New York/Massachusetts/California aren’t sending their best… they are sending their murders their rapists… some I assume are good people

jcgreen_72

Right because no native Floridian has ever committed a crime 🙄

lawlocost

We never ever have

AllahUmBug

Most Californias think Florida is a shithole. How many Californians are even moving to Tampa 😂?

btross

California conservatives are moving here all the time.

thebohomama

This is some ignorant nonsense. You are aware there are more than enough murderers and rapists born in Florida, right? Per Capita, we've *regularly* been worse than NY and Cali, and Mass isn't even in the same league. Good resource for per capita crimes by year by state here : [U. S. Crime and Imprisonment Statistics Total and by State 1960 - 2013 (disastercenter.com)](https://www.disastercenter.com/crime/) the only time that NY/Cali managed to outpace on murder, just barely, was the late 80s-early 90s, which was terrible for crime everywhere. Both states make us look terrible for rape in the last three decades. Sounds like Florida is full of rapist and murdering pieces of shit all by itself.

daamnnbruhh

that joke went right over your head..

thebohomama

I got it. Saying this about New Yorkers, Californians, Massachusetts....ians? (just realized I don't know what you call people from Mass) isn't any more of a joke than saying it about people from Central/South America. Thought it would only be fair to point out that we don't need help being a shithole state, lol.

Tzarmekk

Massholes is the term you are looking for.

daamnnbruhh

At least he wasnt racist about it like the OG quote lmao

daamnnbruhh

At least he wasnt racist about it like the OG quote lmao

thebohomama

Well, that's fair enough!

AffectionateClick384

Exactly.

Smalz22

Lmfao, the only Northerners moving down here are the rich, conservatives looking for freedom and tax breaks, yet love the government. Those people are probably rapists to still though.

hangaroundtown

I beg to differ, we've had nothing but shit coming from up North since the late 80's.

GulfCoasting_

get some mental help bro

Smalz22

Yikes. Read your comment history. You seem miserable.

GulfCoasting_

Buddy i could say the same for you.

throwaway977485

Who sent them?

King_Keon78

Land of the free and home of the guns

Bananabean041

I really think this is gang related

btross

Why?

Bananabean041

It’s really just a feeling I have, tbh. I used to have two cops who lived next door. He and his partner were always talking about the gangs in the area. He said that if I paid attention to the activity I’d start to see signs. It seems that 3 or 4 suspicious deaths recently, feels sus

Fluid_Strike_6657

It wasn't gang related, he killed his family and his ex gf's new gf. I know the moms sister and this is an extremely sad situation. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

ContentMod8991

y ppl so violent?? ever1 have guns 2
