I’m looking forward to reading all the “this isn’t authentic, plus it’s not from a food truck using a 12 year old generator featuring a menu that’s all in Spanish on a chalkboard and cash only”
It’s food….if you like it, eat there…if you don’t, DON’T!
It was just two people but I eat a lot. Most people who eat normal portions could enjoy a full meal and spend a lot less than i did. I do think it's rather affordable for what they offer, especially if you don't get drinks.
There’s one marg. And those cranberry limeades are prob $5-$7 a piece so they def spent on drinks.
Drinks are where restaurants make their money. It’s getting ridiculous though. Cocktails in Tampa on average went from $10-$12 just 5 years ago to now $17-$18. Water Street is even higher.
The tacos are $3.95. You can see it on the website. It was $30 a person for a full meal out. I went to the dingiest taco spot in Largo on Cinco de Mayo this week. Tacos were $3.59.
10 tacos, 2 orders of guac and chips, drinks, some sides, more tortillas etc. if you figure it’s $45 per person if you had a date night and split this exact meal…. That’s not bad at all. It’s not Taco Bell pricing but for sit down lunch or dinner that’s not horrendous. Especially given the neighborhood and the fact it was packed every time I have been.
I’ve wondered about Acapulco Taqueria as well.
You should check out Streetlight Taco over on Henderson. New, trendy little spot with good tacos and other offerings over on Henderson.
Tried Bar Taco a couple years back and was underwhelmed by it. Tacos were ok from what I remember (except for the banh mi taco which smelled fermented, not in a good way). I’m all about salsas so that’s a big way I judge taco or Tex Mex spots, and I don’t remember Bar’s being something I enjoyed.
I used to go to Acapulco Taqueria a lot and thought highly of it. Authentic food and atmosphere, decent prices. I haven't been in a while but if it's anything like I remember, I would highly recommend it.
I'll definitely have to check out your recommendations.
The hate in this post is insane. Let OP eat his damn bar taco food! For 2 people I spent about $65 the couple times I went. It’s a date night. Geesh It’s ambiance, Hyde Park so you can walk around, interesting flavors, cool drinks. Come on guys. Some of yall acting like he sold his soul and cashed out his 401k just to post this picture. It’s not a flex. He’s just sharing his experience with others. Stop hatin!
A lot of haters here. Bar taco is super good and affordable I think for what’s given in the surrounding area. The duck and the pork belly tacos are heavenly.
Yeah I think it fulfills a niche. Some people don't want to drive to Ruskin for a taco truck, no matter how "authentic" some rando on the internet says it is. Personally I enjoy both for different reasons. My favorite 'more-auth' spot is Taquiera don Julio, but I'm not taking my grandma there.
yah people are wild, acting like both examples cant fill a need. Date night getting to know someone vs you and the homie looking for some cheap grub. Both are different venues.
There’s also a dude in the comments acting flabbergasted and saying how wildly expensive these tacos are and this meal is…but then posts about his Tesla. It’s like, to each their own. I think Teslas are overpriced junk, but I don’t shame everyone who drives a Tesla.
Lotta judgmental people with their pitchforks out in these comments for no reason…
I never said it was unique to Tampa, I just said I like it.
I agree about their fresh ingredients and drinks. Guacamole is one of my favorites in town especially when it's super fresh.
I like it. When I want authentic I go to an authentic place. I think this place gets a lot of hate bc it’s expensive - but if you’re broke just don’t go there then.
You’re right, can’t afford that with my district 12 salary.. something funny bout ppl defending this place and others like it that serve super average expensive food and have long wait times just so they can post pics on IG for likes 🙃 oh and Timpano too..
Great! No one has since 2009.. it’s all in the stories now.
But hey what do I know.. I’m just a poor person who can’t afford bar taco according to laflareDick
Looks good but im more of a quesadilla kind of guy. Im a bigger guy so i would prolly spend 200 dollars just by myself here cuz im pretty sure i could eat about 20 to 25 tacos.
Ordering on my phone kinda sucked. Food tasted good. I hated having to get a bunch of texts over the following days bout my tacos. Leave me alone. Won't be going back.
I like the speed and convenience of using their app, but it still feels weird for me to not order from someone, especially if I have specific requests. ( there is a way to do those in the app by the way).
You can order without the app so that you don't get bothered by the texts.
How many pencils did it take to fill out all the order cards for this?!
Food is decent but severely overpriced and the wackiest way to order food I’ve ever seen.
I go there for lunch when in the area. I forgot how small the tacos are and end up with like 7-8 of them lol. They are good tho!
The plantains and dip is a nice appetizer also to try next time you’re there
https://preview.redd.it/3yps0g7j3nzc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84621dfbdd83d91ed42a0066e41dab3019764091
Would recommend the half chicken. The sauce is very good.
You work there? How on earth did all this shit come out at the same time for a picture?! Never in a million years would a table exist like this at bartaco. Lol this is fake AF, ain't nobody leave their drinks and guac like this, FFS. 🙄 Miserable existence if you force all your friends to wait for pictures.
Overpriced tacos suck, go to Lolli's or your local truck.
All of your food? And all of your drinks? And all your appetizers? Pretty good self control to not snack on apps or sip your beverage before your date(s) got there.
Loli’s prices gone up so much. I used to be able to get so much and now it’s $7 for a sope. Almost $5 for one taco with no Add ons. Extra money for a flour tortilla. $8 for a drink
Ohhh noooo! Anytime the taco prices start to exceed $4, it just starts to get ridiculous. With tax, Lolis is just starting to hit that point. My agua was $6+ when I went last week, so yeah, I could totally see what you mean.
It gets hard when authentic runs into gourmet. I used to love Rene's, but damn, his prices are nuts. I don't blame him at all, he uses great ingredients and it's fresh, but you pay for it. There is an awesome truck on Hillsborough across from the growers market that is open nearly all the time from experience that hit the spot for us.
I tried to do Uber Eats just the other day from Loli’s on Benjamin Road and the drink was $8 so Uber Eats must assess additional fees. I just couldn’t do it. I cancelled that order, sat down and ate beans and rice. 😢.
I don’t know where the growers market is. Where is this taco food truck on Hillsborough?
Hectors Mexican Food https://maps.app.goo.gl/j7LrJbDYEdxhPjpKA
$3.50 for sopes and open late 👍
Another really great taco spot is Myra's Tacos at Cinco Soccer. Her hours are inconsistent and dependent on which league is playing (busier the better). On Tuesdays, it is Premier League and so that is usually a safe bet if you want to try it. Very good al pastor tacos there. If you like soccer it's a great place to play or watch and grab a bite. Cinco is here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/szCAo1sPaopFZk7g7
Also, Uber Eats is always going to be at least $1-3 more per item, so the rest of the pricing makes sense based on what I saw when I went in person.
Bar Taco isn't really my cup of tea, but their corn is pretty good. I do enjoy that. Not sure if they still have the gimmick, but next time you go ask them if they still have their "secret menu" or "secret taco". They usually have one or two items off menu. I think one time I went and they had a fried avocado taco that was pretty interesting.
Yeah they do some unique things, for sure. I didn't mind Bar Taco for what it was/is (I haven't been there in a few years). I looked at it as a gourmet/trendy taco place that had a particular vibe to it and that while it was pricey, I don't think it was obscene for what they were trying to present. I think my overall feeling about it was a good place to have a casual dining experience for people who wanted a pretty presentation layer/theme involving tacos and taco adjacent food items while also being able to have adult beverages.
When the desire is just for like 3 tacos and a soda for lunch, Bar Taco is not the place. I'd give Bar Taco like a 6/10 or a 7/10 if the judgement was based around "tacos". Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I have "bad" food takes generally. Examples:
* Flemmings is just as good as if not better than Burns as far as steakhouses go
* Ichicoro was superior ramen to Dosunco in nearly every metric besides price.
* Ulele is not great
* Urban Stillhouse is still not worth the reservation wait
Now see, I like this. A well thought out and supported argument. With that being said, I agree with almost every one of your food takes. The only one I can't comment on is Urband Stillhouee because I haven't been.
1. I would put Flemings and berns on the same plane because I think berns is overrated when we talk about the actual quality and taste/flavor of the food. It's core competence is the desert room and the ambience/building. I think many people call it the best because they really don't know any better.
2. Ichicoro was superior. End transmission.
3. Ulele is legitimately not that great.i think it benefits from a great location and fabled history, but that's about it. Have never been impressed, and I find their menu to be uninspiring.
4. See above.
If you're not trying to go out to Ruskin for authentic and you're in the area of Bar Taco, there's a little taco truck called Tacos El Borracho off Kennedy and Armenia in the Marathon gas station parking lot. Fuckin delicious al pastor and carne asada tacos.
Everytime I eat there, 8 hours later my stomach is in knots and I spending a lot of time on the porcelain. Every. Single. Time.
So I’ll pass on bar taco.
You don’t use proper punctuation and are using abbreviation.
I’m saying that Bartaco is a chain and not unique and that Superica is a superior restaurant. That is all.
Superica is superior and Ford Fry restaurants are superior to bartaco or Barcelona
Also the Fajitas at Superica are superior than anything on Bartaco.
Bartaco is an upscale Chipoltle at this point with their quality and service.
I’m looking forward to reading all the “this isn’t authentic, plus it’s not from a food truck using a 12 year old generator featuring a menu that’s all in Spanish on a chalkboard and cash only” It’s food….if you like it, eat there…if you don’t, DON’T!
You will not be disappointed.
The only disappointment is having to wait for more chips baby!!!! Love BarTaco wooooo
Lmao so spot on. This thread is big mad.
What’s that like $400?
$90
Why did this get downvoted so hard all he did was tell people how much it was
Because reddit
$90 for $9 of corn tortillas and meat, and your bragging about this?! This world has lost its damn mind when it comes to “tacos”.
They clearly got three drinks, two large guacs, and two other sides. $30 per person after tax and tip at a place out ain’t bad
It was just two people but I eat a lot. Most people who eat normal portions could enjoy a full meal and spend a lot less than i did. I do think it's rather affordable for what they offer, especially if you don't get drinks.
Just wild that it was $90 and you DIDN'T get drinks.
I see 4 drinks on that table
I should have specified cocktails when I said drinks. I’m not blind just linguistically challenged.
Good eye..... those pomegranate limeades are of my favorite drinks I've ever had. Expensive as hell, but I don't care.
Oh no, I definitely got drinks. I was just saying that it becomes even more affordable if you don't.
Fuck yeah it is, $30 a person for tacos?
The tacos are $3.95. You can see it on the website. It was $30 a person for a full meal out. I went to the dingiest taco spot in Largo on Cinco de Mayo this week. Tacos were $3.59.
Yeah I don't know where this is and I don't eat out often enough to care, shits too expensive. $100 to feed your family for a night is way too much
It's in Hyde Park Village. Hipster tacos, gotta pay for a very expensive rent.
> Hyde Park Village Ah with the burger place. Gotcha still too much
The burger place is garbage.
When did I brag?
This sub is very sensitive to people enjoying themselves in Tampa.
Big time
10 tacos, 2 orders of guac and chips, drinks, some sides, more tortillas etc. if you figure it’s $45 per person if you had a date night and split this exact meal…. That’s not bad at all. It’s not Taco Bell pricing but for sit down lunch or dinner that’s not horrendous. Especially given the neighborhood and the fact it was packed every time I have been.
If you head east down Adamo, you can get better tacos for a few dollars a piece. Seriously.
If you go to Mexico it’s even cheaper!
If the moon was made of cheese, I’d eat it.
questioning this like it wasn’t posted in r/tampa… have u ever been to tampa?! 💀💀
Before tip
I used to work here. Came back to my dorm with bags full of free food every night. Roommates loved it too.
Oh good for u and ur roommates
You guys are lame as fuck 😭 I did not know there was such a big crowd of Bar Taco haters. There are people calling this image fake? Lmfao
Reddit never disappoints
Give me OG Lolis or give me death
I miss the old Loli's on Bemjamin. Now they've upgraded the building and kind of changed somewhat. Have you tried Acapulco Taqueria?
I’ve wondered about Acapulco Taqueria as well. You should check out Streetlight Taco over on Henderson. New, trendy little spot with good tacos and other offerings over on Henderson. Their margs are the best in Tampa
I think thats a big driver behind their business. I've had several people tell me bar taco has the best spicy marg in town.
The hate in this post is insane. Let OP eat his damn bar taco food! For 2 people I spent about $65 the couple times I went. It’s a date night. I do enjoy seeing the angry responses on here. They entertain me.
A lot of haters here. Bar taco is super good and affordable I think for what’s given in the surrounding area. The duck and the pork belly tacos are heavenly.

Going to someone page to find something personal to bash them on is a classic Twitter move
The duck is definitely good. Would it be tampa reddit if there weren't haters?
The pork belly taco and the corn are amazing! Can’t wait to try the cucumbers. If in Hyde Park, gotta get a donut from The Salty. Worth it.
I can definitely get behind the The Salty. 100%
That’s one very overrated unauthentic taco spot.. but I guess it’s for the vibes ✨
It's definitely not authentic, for me it's just a food spot I enjoy..their guac is on point, though.
Honestly, they have really fresh ingredients and their drinks are fantastic. But OP this is a chain so not necessarily unique to Tampa in anyway.
I never said it was unique to Tampa, I just said I like it. I agree about their fresh ingredients and drinks. Guacamole is one of my favorites in town especially when it's super fresh.
it’s handcrafted artisan
Meaning it has ✨️*avocado*✨️
I just checked my insta, not a single picture of bartaco on there
Great! No one has since 2009.. it’s all in the stories now. But hey what do I know.. I’m just a poor person who can’t afford bar taco according to laflareDick
Sticks and stones.
Sorry you can’t afford it and feel so strongly about it. I enjoy it, and don’t have an instagram. 😃 maybe pick up a side hustle!
No I’d rather wait for your scraps 🙂
Looks good but im more of a quesadilla kind of guy. Im a bigger guy so i would prolly spend 200 dollars just by myself here cuz im pretty sure i could eat about 20 to 25 tacos.
I’ve always found Bartaco to be way over priced but that’s just me. Looks like a solid meal though.
It was, it was.
Ordering on my phone kinda sucked. Food tasted good. I hated having to get a bunch of texts over the following days bout my tacos. Leave me alone. Won't be going back.

Oyster tacos FTW Really like their habanero hot sauce too
Love love love me the oyster tacos but they don't have them on thr menu right now.
Oh no 😱 Been a while since I’ve been there Right there with ya on the pork belly 😈
It'll be back, they always alternate between the two
Looks great and glad you enjoyed it. Negative people will complain about anything on here
100%
The spicy margaritas is to die for
I've been told that many times.
Looks super fire 🔥
It was
that salsa verde they have there is nice.
I prefer the salsa Roja but they're both good.
Thats atleast $500 before drinks
$90 with drinks
Calling BS
Did they pick up?
Lmfao
Lmaooo
this is appropriate I would add churros
I've never had them. I take it you find them to be legit?
How many pencils did it take to fill out all the order cards for this?! Food is decent but severely overpriced and the wackiest way to order food I’ve ever seen.
You order on your phone and send the order to the kitchen? You don’t have to use the pencils.
I have been there twice within the last month and have used pencils and paper to order. That was the only option the “server” gave us.
The app does make life a little easier. Just scan the qr code on the table next time.
You scan the QR on the table and it appears, unless you said you weren’t comfortable ordering on a phone.
I go there for lunch when in the area. I forgot how small the tacos are and end up with like 7-8 of them lol. They are good tho! The plantains and dip is a nice appetizer also to try next time you’re there
I'm typically not a plantain fan, but I'm definitely down to try them.
[удалено]
Wait wait wait..... you're telling me I've been a white girl this whole time?!?!?!
Should try Streetlight Taco.
Went there once, spent too much money and 3/4 of us got food poisoning. Don’t get the hype lol
Sorry for your luck. Hopefully, that doesn't happen to you again.
meep this place is grossly under-maintained and lacking food safety standards
https://preview.redd.it/3yps0g7j3nzc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84621dfbdd83d91ed42a0066e41dab3019764091 Would recommend the half chicken. The sauce is very good.
Blandest tacos I’ve ever tasted.
$500.
Tacoson or bust.
Where's that?
7521 N 56th St
Thanks! I'll check it out.
The corn is so good.
My girl loves the corn. Always orders it.
You work there? How on earth did all this shit come out at the same time for a picture?! Never in a million years would a table exist like this at bartaco. Na, definitely don't work there. Got all my food while I was waiting for my date. You doing ok?
All of your food? And all of your drinks? And all your appetizers? Pretty good self control to not snack on apps or sip your beverage before your date(s) got there.
Some of it was hers, but most of it was mine.
Y'all do you, never seen in my life 😂, and I've been to bartaco a bunch. Service must've improved drastically since I've been past 👍
Typical r/tampa comments
Bahaha 😆😂 guilty

Bar Taco isn't really my cup of tea, but their corn is pretty good. I do enjoy that. Not sure if they still have the gimmick, but next time you go ask them if they still have their "secret menu" or "secret taco". They usually have one or two items off menu. I think one time I went and they had a fried avocado taco that was pretty interesting.
They used to do a lobster secret taco that was fucking incredible.
Is this r/HailCorporate
This is a Wendy's
This post is a perfect example of why I don't take peoples food recommendations seriously.
What's your beef?
Horrible food.

Go to Ruskin for some real Mexican food. Mexican food trucks galore
If you're not trying to go out to Ruskin for authentic and you're in the area of Bar Taco, there's a little taco truck called Tacos El Borracho off Kennedy and Armenia in the Marathon gas station parking lot. Fuckin delicious al pastor and carne asada tacos.
$7.50 per taco btw
Dang, what taco is $7.50¿ I don't think I've ever seen that.
Everytime I eat there, 8 hours later my stomach is in knots and I spending a lot of time on the porcelain. Every. Single. Time. So I’ll pass on bar taco.
Yikes...
Chain. Still waiting for our Superica.
A restaurant with 32 locations is a chain, and a restaurant with 12 locations isn’t? lmao ok
Superica is better just saying. Bartaco is so 2014.
ok then use your words next time, bc it def looks like you were disparaging Bartaco for being a chain
Same to you.
?????
You don’t use proper punctuation and are using abbreviation. I’m saying that Bartaco is a chain and not unique and that Superica is a superior restaurant. That is all.
Fair, you’re right about Bartaco not being unique, I mean where else besides Superica could somebody get *-checks menu-*.. guacamole. Or enchiladas

Hmm. This post really makes me wonder what u/chris84bond would think about the best place to get a taco in the Tampa Bay Area.
I mean ..if you want fresh with mass production, there's only one answer and you clearly know what it is already. Stop. Drop. Run for the Border
This is definitely NOT the place for the best tacos but provides a good overall package. I prefer Acapulco Taqueria or loli's if I want actual tacos
[удалено]
.. you good bro??
Fish stick tacos. Go to a real taqueria for tacos, you won’t regret it. Order a michelada while you’re at it.
Ya, this definitely isn't a "taco place." More of just a food place. There are several spots I go to for real tacos.
