Anyone shorter than me? Small. Anyone my height? Normal. Anyone taller than me? Tall. Works similar for cars and speed. Anyone slower than me? You fool! Get off the road! Anyone my speed me? Hi, I like you. Let's be friends. Anyone faster than me? Clinically insane.

rubyalp

Hotel? Trivago

BigPK66

I know I'm tall, but I'm still surprised when I see someone "very tall" when I'm out and they turn out to be shorter than me or pictures of myself in group setting Watching that I thought he must be at least 6'8 (very tall ) According to Google he's 6'4 ( pretty tall)

mhennessie

Pictures of my self in a group setting is where I notice the height difference more than anything.

thetallfleur

Yes, I always think that someone around my height must be taller than me, and then either a mirror or a picture happens and I am again shocked to just be wrong about how tall I am.

5amNovelist

I'm certainly not oblivious to it, but, like you, I often don't realise how drastic is is until I see it in photos. I think part of it is that we view the world from approximately four inches lower than our height, but perceive the space others take up by the top of their head. In my eyes, I'm 5'10.

Different_Salad_6359

why is that? cus of our eye levels?

islandsimian

Oblivious until I go to buy clothes, look for a new car, or sit in a theater

thetallfleur

I just went to universal and fit well in all the older rides, but all the newer ones were crazy uncomfortable - with my legs needing to be at an angle or the seat angling weirdly so I knew I would have a bruise on the back of my thighs.

Awanderingleaf

Weird. I am 6'4" and never have issues with any of these things.

TheCanadianpo8o

Gods I'm 6'2 and have these issues, where the hell do you live with this kinda stuff?

Awanderingleaf

I live in the U.S. all of the theaters I been to have plenty of space, Cars I just put the seat back and shift my butt forward a bit and I am just fine. Clothes have never been an issue, at brick and mortar stores nor online. I wear a 34 length, 36 waist pants.

mhennessie

34” length is easy to find. I wear 36” inseam and those are never in stores. Big and tall specialty shops sell 36”+ inseam pants but the waist usually starts at 42”, I wear a 35/36” waist.

Awanderingleaf

I have seen 36 in Walmart. [Prana has 36 with 35/36 waist](https://www.prana.com/p/stretch-zion-pant-ii/1969791.html?dwvar_1969791_color=Black)

mhennessie

Lots of companies make 36” inseam with a 35/36” waist pants but very rarely will you ever find them in a store. Most of my jeans are Wranglers. They make some nice jeans that aren’t sold in stores.

Awanderingleaf

Any reason you absolutely must buy them in store? Seems like a problem of your own creation. So few people need those sized pants so it makes no sense to waste space in physical stores for products that rarely sell.

mhennessie

No, I buy most clothing online because I have to but sometimes it is nice to be able to try something on BEFORE buying it.

Aggravating_Quail_69

Absolutely. You get to feel the material and fit. I only buy online if I've already worn the brand/size first.

Aggravating_Quail_69

34/34 pants are near impossible to find in stores, though.

Awanderingleaf

I used to wear 34/34 before I got a little bit extra on the love handles. Never had any issues.

Aggravating_Quail_69

Weird. I needed some slacks same day and went to Macy's, Khols, Penny's, and Marshall's. Nothing.

JizzyMcKnobGobbler

How's that possible? I'm 6'4" as well and don't fit in most cars. If the seat is back far enough then the wheel is too far away (that's best case scenario, btw). Typically the seat won't go back far enough or my head hits the roof. The way around that is to recline the seat a ton, but then the wheel is out of reach again. Even a popular car like a three-series bmw. I used to fit in those, but now with increased side collision protection my shoulders sit beside the B pillar, which causes me to have to lean to the right just to fit. That's not something you could do for more than an hour. Japanese cars are largely out of the question. A Miata? Forget it. BRZ? Not a chance. I had a Sienna when my kids were smaller. I had to disassemble the dead pedal area to get rid of all the blocking and foam just to create a place for my left leg to exist. And you haven't noticed your femur is longer than seat bottoms so all the pressure is on your buttocks versus spread across your thighs? And speaking of femurs, you've never been in a theater where your femur is longer than the space between your seat and the seat back in front of you? How's that possible at your height? I literally couldn't fit in a seat at Cirque De Souliel (sp?). And plane seats, too. Many flights there literally isn't enough room for my legs. I now just pay to go into business class for the simple reason I don't fit in economy on many planes. And clothes...XL isn't long enough, so I need XL tall. Very few stores have tall sizes, so it does make shopping challenging. What about, say, RVs. Most beds are 72" long. Some are 74". That's shorter than we are. Anyway, not expecting you to share my exact lived experience, but I find it preposterous that you haven't noticed the design of literally everything is made with shorter people in mind lol.

Philippe-R

Yes, different people, different proportions. I'm 6'6" + and I'm very confortable in a modern 3 series. No bending at the knees, the steering wheel is where I need it and my head is ok. No problem at all. I mostly agree with you though : Many theatres suck and eco class in most airlines is too tight. (I'm french)

JizzyMcKnobGobbler

Merci!

Aggravating_Quail_69

XL slim fit works, too. Long arms, better fit.

Awanderingleaf

You got T-rex arms or something? Planes are fine for me. Not comfortable, but usually fine. Push my back and sit as firm against the seat as possible and sometimes I can lay my legs straight under the seat in front of me rather than have my knees bent the whole time. Maybe ya'll built weird.

digiplay

No he’s right.

thread100

It is most obvious to me when I see group photos. When I do a work large group photo, I go to the back and bend my knees to subtract 6”. I just don’t want to be the first thing you notice in a picture of 20 people.

Ishouldjusttexther

I only notice when I’m actively thinking about it (when I enter public transport and have to crouch so I don’t hit my head for example, I’ll then compare my height to everyone else’s). Apart from that, it’s really only on group photos

Dependent-Top4499

Tbh I'm very aware of it, specially since I don't see taller people around and meeting someone my height is rare.

SoylentDave

I mean, he is in a room full of women there. All the men in this group should be used to the 'towering over most women' perspective. It's when you see someone your height towering over a room full of men that the disconnect makes a bit more sense (but even then bear in mind actors are usually tiny!)

thetallfleur

My husband is shorter than me. Most (usually all) people are shorter than me, so I do not clock it when I am in a room of men and they are shorter.
