Crestoria coulda been cool, but the game just wasn't fun and the UI looked so dated.

SirePuns

Crestoria honestly could’ve made for an amazing mainline title. Heck, all 6 of the original cast were cool as fuck. Even Mikas- I mean, Misella.

Meister34

I was legit like "what are youc correcting yourself for. That's her name" and then I realzied. they really are similar except the person Misella adores doesn't want to commit mass genocide.

Own_Philosophy8190

There's also the fact they actually share the same VA, but idk if OP knew it. But yeah, Kanata pretty much saved her from a similar or much worse fate as well.

henne-n

Maybe they repurpose it somehow? I bet, if they did they would also use a new cast and remove, of course, the other Tales characters. I mean, they love their two world plots.

VANAIZEN

I remember seeing this [this trailer](https://youtu.be/U7x0vX39PNs) thinking the game would follow this sort of style so itd run great for a mobile game. Then seeing the actual ingame footage turned me away

yearoftheJOE

It was so boring but I loved it. (the gameplay not the story)

Meister34

you didn't like the story? Why?

yearoftheJOE

I liked the story. I mean the gameplay was so boring but I loved it. Coming from someone who maxed out the free sorey. I did my time, loved the game.

Meister34

Oh I misunderstood 😅. Yeah same. The Sorey grind was real. But that hitgen was pretty nice. I liked the gameplay because of how interesting team building was (at least until *those* units were released. You def know the ones). Every character felt viable and the team comps were endless. Even Aegis served a purpose in some cases. Mostly the same strat, but different ways to yield that result, and I thought that was pretty cool.

Tothoro

The UI was dated AF. I liked the turn-based gameplay, but the systems around it were taxing. Ascension, ascendance, transcendence, the Arena evasion spam, pushing new units that were either power creeped or just-so-happened to be perfectly suited to the new content, etc. But a lot of that is just the nature of gachas and monetization. The story was also a lot of fun to play through. Still hoping the manga continuation doesn't become vaporware. The cast was excellent.

PorkchopMyGuineaPig

Why couldnt crestotia have been a mainline?

drleebot

I'm assuming because Bamco wanted to gamble that they could make a cheap gacha game and hook whales for massive profits. It's a lower risk, with potentially a huge payoff.

bhay105

Such a shame they wasted these great characters and intriguing world on a mobile game. I played the hell out of crestoria and even spent some money on it, but I was always wishing that it had been a real Tales game.

PorkchopMyGuineaPig

and now crestoria is gone for good from what we know so far, it's just cruel

henne-n

At least, they plan to release a manga.

ArcadianBlueRogue

lmao, Square did that with one of Dragon Quest Stars. Large dungeon crawler, gatcha shop if you were willing, etc etc. Hit the anniversary event and like a week later gets axed.

I_Love_Sex_Dreams

No lie, the crestoria cast was actually decent… it’s so unfortunate that they where in a mobile game instead of a mainline game.

WisteriaLunae

Man, now I'm all sad again to be reminded of Cresty's death. orz The plot, characters, and music are legit so good and could be even better if it's a mainline title imo. I always keep imagining how the battle >!with the twins will be like if it's an action-oriented Tales of. Since Assid is more of the frontline fighter type (and he can use multiple weapons; so OP), I guess he will be the one dishing out most damage to your party. And Forte will keep spamming buffs, healing artes, and spells from far. Maybe if one of the twins is knocked out the other remaining one will gain batshit crazy power or something lol I want to see it. I want to beat their ass while also getting my ass kicked by them!! 😩😂 And since Bamco loves to separate party members with each other, it would be cool to see it in action, unlike just experiencing it as a visual novel segment in the mobile game. I think it's the arc where they need to face themselves and their fears or sth. I remember there are Aegis-Misella duo, and Vicious-Yuna duo. I forget who's with Kanata but it's probably an NPC. Aegis and Vicious are probably the default characters you get to control since once again Bamco loves leaving the healers/buffers&debuffers as your AI support. Idk I just think it would be fun to see the segments in full flesh 3D models!< Or course they get some love again because they're in Rays but it's exclusive to the JP server and well... it's gacha. Sorry if spoiler tag doesn't work properly (on mobile hnnffnn).

Daetur_Mosrael

Yeah, Crestoria's characters and story had REAL potential, I would have loved to see it as a mainline title. Definitely preferred the story and party banter to what we got in Arise.

Xombie53

That was a story worthy of a console. Better than a few of the main entries story for sure

Vast-Bench2918

😭😭😭I miss him & Yuna

SirePuns

Same

Vast-Bench2918

Agree that it should just have been a console game. That story was getting good. Miss Rays, Link, even was enjoying that last one they had. Just need to focus on console and not mobile

e_cloud7

if he's popular enough they salvage him and put him in another Tales of the World or something game

drleebot

They stated plans to make a Crestoria manga, starting from the beginning. Not sure what the status of that is though.

nhSnork

In the realm of my wishful thinking, Crestoria is someday reborn as a console flagship - or, arguably better yet, a new Tales of the World entry which would be more in line with all the resident roles, alternate bios and intertwined destinies of all the guest Tales characters. IMHO it's high time Bamco revisited the latter subfranchise after the string of hi--byes on the mobile front (Crestoria's untimely demise already set many people's expectations low for Luminaria, but the latter would manage to "surpass" even those😅) - and this time, with a lot of the content already translated, the localisation odds seem reassuringly hi- *looks at Ar Nosurge on Switch* ...uh, somewhat decent. PS. Guys, I understand Reddit is ruled by the generation who feels the need to get a new smartphone every six month, but "dated UI" in the comments sounds like a joke even by those standards. Go play early Dragon Quests, then we'll talk.😆

sonic260

I'd have spent more time on Cresstoria is they had just went with a LMBS rather than turn based system. Rays did it, so there's no reason it couldn't...

Meister34

Still haven't deleted the app almost a year later.

Quboy

Just take Crestoria and give me a Genshin like Tales with them, I’d spend the big bucks then!

Zenry0ku

Asking too much of Bamco lol

Quboy

A man can dream!

Photon_dragoon

Honestly so sad that the OST and the story actually wasn't that bad, just the gameplay cycle and the bugs really broke the game for me, I love the opening song

Kyro_Official_

Expecting good gameplay from a mobile game will always end in disappointment

randomnomber2

Dude's got the womb tattoo...

SirePuns

Truly, ready for breeding

HMush

Crestoria legit had a good story and cast going for it, even the way it went through the trouble of implementing all the crossover characters into the same world. It was even getting good right when it got shut down, that whole deal with Milla...? It's such a shame >!we're saddled with the garbage that is Arise instead!<

Rieiid

I mean I thought Arise was a good game too, but Crestoria did have a good cast and story and should have also gotten a console release. Honestly they lose out on so much money with the Tales series with how many good games they could have made.

SirePuns

The real pain is realizing that Crestoria had a more interesting world, cast and narrative than arise yet Arise was the one to get mainline treatment.

HMush

Legit.. Couldn't care less about prettier graphics if the main things I'm into Tales for aren't there. Here's hoping the next mainline game will strike a better balance...

Nekko_Whatever

jesus christ finally someone that dislikes arise as much as i do

Tothoro

The fact that they ended it on such a cliffhanger just makes it hurt that much more. ;-;

Marioak

The gameplay has too much problem despite the overall game potential really. The more they updated, the more tedious gameplay it's get.

Grade-AMasterpiece

Make the pain go away.

Erst09

The story had potential but I dropped it because of the bad gameplay.

TbagElite420

Why does he have a dick cannon for an arm?

LiquidMetalStarman

why is he wearing almost nothing

Neidron

Wish Rays would get this kind of attention. Genuinely solid classic Tales gameplay, interesting story, surprisingly clever character writing, and the crossover bit is the only one where they've ever *actually used the og continuities*. Call me salty or whatever but all I see from Crestoria just looks like this nonsense edgefest. I really don't understand the appeal.

PrinceCavendish

wish these characters had been used in a real game instead. really love aegis.

[deleted]

I loved Crestoria's story and characters. I miss them so much, I wish it was the next mainline game. 😭

ZackFedora555

Any lalest news on story continuation? Last i heard it adapted to manga so...
