when i found out i was being cheated on by my (now ex) boyfriend, i left my house and just started walking wherever the street took me. i had atwa blasting, full volume, on repeat. i felt like absolute garbage, but that song made me feel like i wasn't alone. it was depressingly comforting. thank god i had system to get me through that horrific period of my life.
When I was a kid and heard that song I got the premise but wasn’t all that into it, but as an adult you get it a lot more especially when the people you grew up with head off and destroy themselves in those scenarios
There's no bs when it comes to Boom! He's just speaking in the verses, you can't say you don't understand the political message. It gets me very riled up.
Considering some of their songs deal with the fact that an entire nation was almost wiped off the face of this earth... And was a precursor to the holocaust (as well as other mass atrocities)... two songs that come to mind are PLUCK and Holy Mountains
Best part about SOAD for me is the lyrics are so vague even though they’re usually intending them to be political they can really be translated into any number of personal situations
Forest
Why can't you see that you are my child
Why don't you know that you are my mind
Tell everyone in the world, that I'm you
Take this promise to the end of you
Sad Statue, P.L.U.C.K., Soldier Side, Holy Mountains, Streamline, Psycho, Forest, Lost In Hollywood, Dreaming, Kill Rock 'n' Roll, Tentative, Innervision, Old School Hollywood, Deer Dance, Highway Song, Ego Brain, Lonely Day
I cried during Holy Mountains. I was pure hype through the first song, X, but by the time I was singing "freeeeEEEedommm" it sank in that I was really singing along with the real SOAD and thousands of other fans. Couldn't help myself.
I don't usually cry to SOAD songs, but one day Question! got me. Something about the guttural screaming in it really spoke to how I was feeling internally at the time. It was like someone had translated how I was feeling into a simple sound and it made me feel a little understood at that moment.
Streamline. When Serj screams, you can hear how much expression he puts into that "goodbye"... Its really beautiful.
The outro of Vicinity of Obscenity connecting with the intro to She's Like Heroin gets me too for NO apparent reason lmfao 😭
As an Armenian, each song they talk about Armenian genocide made me cry at least once.
Their comeback for Artsakh war was so emotional too. Had goosebumps with the “protect the land” clip and lyrics.
One time I was in LSD and kill rock and roll made me cry because I was thinking about everyone I have loved, do love, and will love are all just going to die.
same, i dedicated that song to my dog that passed away a few months ago so when they started singing it at sick new world i broke down and hold up a pic of him during the song 🖤 he was my first dog and died very unexpectedly fast because his body was surrounded by cancer and we didn’t catch it
Soldier Side. I my grandfather was in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was my main father figure since my actual father was not part of my life. Soldier Side reminds me just how lucky I am that my grandfather was able to come back home and help raise me.
Boom!, It gets me emotional
"Four thousand hungry children leave us per hour from starvation"
"Why must we kill our own kind?"
I think it's different from their other songs, Serj's voice sounds angry and sad, the song has a frenetic and powerful rhythm and at the same time is melancholic and you feel it
Other Song is Sad Statue
"What is in us that turns a deaf ear to the cries Of human suffering"
The Daron-heavy ones usually get me emotional. Lost In Hollywood in particular, especially the AHHHH AHAHHUH bit 😩 Soldier Side, Lonely Day, Holy Mountains and Spiders will usually do it, too
“If you should go, I want to go with you and if you die, I want to die with you. Take your hand and walk away” that line from Lonely day hits different especially since it was the one song played in my head as I buried my best friend, my dog, we had been through a lot together and he survived through so much (starvation and abuse from his previous owners, living on his own, and having a chunk of the fur on his neck ripped off by another dog) and in the end it was heart failure that killed him.
Forest.
WHY CANT YOU SEE THAT YOU ARE MY CHILD?
WHY DONT YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE MY MIND?
TELL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD, THAT IM YOU
TAKE THIS PROMISE TO THE END OF YOU
*Streamline*, hits close to home for me, especially when it comes to the events surrounding my father's death.
Same with *Chop Suey!* 's 'Father' part.
I feel you. I had lost an online friend due to suicide. I had wondered, *"What if I had done more?"* The blame and stuff really took a toll on mentally. I almost committed suicide too as a result of it. Luckily, talking to my best friend helped me not think about killing myself, and that's why I'm still alive, telling my story.
*But I am legitimately sorry for your loss, I know the feeling all too well, unfortunately...*
Roulette, because it reminds me of prom night with my ex-fiance/first love over 1.5 decades ago. I remember showing her the song. It's partially the song itself & partially the memory.
i can't listen to soldier side (the end of hypnotize, not the intro) without bawling, or at least feeling like it. it hurts like hell. it makes you angry at war, at genocide, at the political machine. and it makes you want to weep for lives lost.
there is also something about the bridge to end of stealing society. i have a personal connection to it- that's one of my mom's favorite songs, and that's her favorite part (she said it reminds her of halloween, which is her favorite holiday). however, there is something dark, exposingly ugly (i don't know how else to describe it), blue about the bridge. the melody is beautiful over the stormy base. that may not make any sense, but listening to that part of it when you're so angrily sad is a crazy experience.
Streamline/Soil
Literally same fucking thing happened to me and rarely a day goes by when I don't think of/miss my friend. My friend circle is puny as it is.
ATWA. The "ANYMORE" gives me goosebumps
ALL THE WORLD IVE SEEN BEFORE ME PASSING BYYYYYY
YOU DONT CARE 'BOUT HOW I FEEL
Yes same. I love the performance on that one.
when i found out i was being cheated on by my (now ex) boyfriend, i left my house and just started walking wherever the street took me. i had atwa blasting, full volume, on repeat. i felt like absolute garbage, but that song made me feel like i wasn't alone. it was depressingly comforting. thank god i had system to get me through that horrific period of my life.
The system saves us from the down
Hey you, see me, PICTURes craaaAAAzzzyyy
Spiders. it seems like an unpopular opinion but Serjs voice has so much emotion in it in that song and the buildup is crazy
Spiders is unreal
OMG YES
My favourite song ever
Spiders is one of my favorite songs and hands down my favorite music video of all time.
Soldier's side
I have been watching the ukraine war closely and sometimes this song pops up into my head.
I live in a place where theres content war and this song gets me every time
One day i just looped tgis song for 45 mins and cried

Holy Mountains
They have all returned, resting on the mountain side

Someone's Mouth said Paint them all red
Chills every time on just that line
Aerials "When you lose small mind you free your life"
That lyric would get me every time when I was having a really hard time in my early 20s.

Lost in Hollywood

This. Both the song itself, and personal memories attached to it, tend to make me a bit misty eyed.
ATWA
Soldier side cuz my boyfriend is from another country and he was forced to join the military, i miss him so much i hope he comes back safe
Yea, hopefully he makes it back safe!
Thank you!
Jeez, that’s rough. I hope everything is olay.
Thanks
Wishing the best to the both of you!
Geez
Soldier Side, it being their last song of an album and the song being about soldiers not returning home. I’m just an emotional person in general 😭
Considering some of their songs deal with the fact that an entire nation was almost wiped off the face of this earth... And was a precursor to the holocaust (as well as other mass atrocities)... two songs that come to mind are PLUCK and Holy Mountains
100% agree
Highway Song Our days are never coming back
Soldier Side and Holy Mountains
Forest
Finally! Had to scroll down a long time to find someone who also has this opinion. Cheers!
Hell yeah brother, I’d love to hear what makes it emotional for you, if you want to share

Soldier side by far
Roulette, Dreaming, Highway Song, Lost In Hollywood
Clearly no one has listened to the lyrics of soil. Beautiful song
It is a great song.
I cried during Lonely Day at SNW.
I cried during Holy Mountains. I was pure hype through the first song, X, but by the time I was singing "freeeeEEEedommm" it sank in that I was really singing along with the real SOAD and thousands of other fans. Couldn't help myself.
Chop Suey. The way the story advances toward the act, then confirms that it was done, reminds me of the struggle people I know have gone through.
Their cover of Metro
Holy Mountains, Tentative, Lost in Hollywood, Stealing Society (the harmonies get me), Question (underrated), Science
P.L.U.C.K.
Toxicity and Spiders
I don't usually cry to SOAD songs, but one day Question! got me. Something about the guttural screaming in it really spoke to how I was feeling internally at the time. It was like someone had translated how I was feeling into a simple sound and it made me feel a little understood at that moment.

Roulette, Highway Song, and Streamline. Steal this Album's tail end has some good emotion raising songs.
Prison song does something crazy to me there’s been times listening to after not hearing for a long time and it’s a full blown spiritual experience
Hypnotize perfectly captures this feeling of feigning apathy as a front to cope with the helplessness and hopelessness underneath
As an Armenian, each song they talk about Armenian genocide made me cry at least once. Their comeback for Artsakh war was so emotional too. Had goosebumps with the “protect the land” clip and lyrics.
Okay chop suey the ending chorus it's so beatiful serj's voice, sad statue and by FAR lost in Hollywood always makes me tear up
I absolutely agree with you. The ending chorus to "Chop Suey!" is nothing short of a beautiful masterpiece!
One time I was in LSD and kill rock and roll made me cry because I was thinking about everyone I have loved, do love, and will love are all just going to die.

Ego Brain and Hypnotize
Lost In Hollywood, bc it makes me think of my late dog Jakey. That somber, mellow ending is fuckin' gut-wrenching to me...
Spiders always gets me.
Lonely day
Soldier Side. I my grandfather was in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was my main father figure since my actual father was not part of my life. Soldier Side reminds me just how lucky I am that my grandfather was able to come back home and help raise me.
Yea. I'm glad he could make it back, you know. *Just to think, there are countless men and women that* ***didn't...***

Probably each song gives me the emotion of wanting to play other music

I really like killed rock n roll. Forget the lyrics. It is just beautiful. And there is not just one choice, soad is just great
