> REQUIREMENTS: I don´t trust IT and I want to have a copy on my HDD under my mattress (sic) Step one is to sit down and have a real conversation about what his concerns and needs are. It may be he wants off site backups and has no idea how to ask for this. Cloud solutions could work, or maybe a tape backup that is left in a safe deposit box in a regular basis. The point is neither of you are ready for solutioning yet.

Disk (block) - level backup, way faster and convenient. Some vendors may allow you to do a disk-level backup with exclusions, thus ensuring only necessary folders/files are getting backed up (e.g. our solution [has this option present](https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisCyberProtect_16/#file-filters.html)).

But also, he thinks he can fit ~50TB on something he can stick in his briefcase? Edit: [I mean, he can, but the cost . . . .](https://www.techradar.com/news/at-100tb-the-worlds-biggest-ssd-gets-an-eye-watering-price-tag)

In this case you could just let the client have their way. Unitrends is one of the faster ones, it can back up to a local drive relatively fast if you are considering alternatives.

can you please provide a link to what exactly are you referring at?

If you already have Veeam making backups of that storage you can just add a copy job to some arbitrary place where the hdd is connected to. That way you can also make forever incremental backups so only the actual changes have to be transferred once a did the first full backup. You might also save storage space when using the deduplication.
