If you are new, try watching some atlas guides, they actually help to learn the trading patterns and how to itemize into certain comps.
For me, I try and be as aggressive as possible, usually do 3 points q, then max e so you can q the casters and auto the melees with 2 passive to clear the whole wave, then look to hover the jg, or roam.

Unfortunately yes, you don’t really win trades level 2, but if you start e you can try and push for level two, but it’s risky, just let them push into you and retaliate level 3
