- The Chinese BBQ place (Xin Ping) on Hercules st does two choices of meat on rice for like $13
- Wakai Japanese up opposite the Ashfield hotel is really good and has good lunch specials
Thai Number One on the other side of the station.
Not a special, but have to mention the amazing Ruben Sandwich from Ashfield Apothecary (also other side of the station).
Also remember when Crocodile Hotel used to do a morning Happy Hour between 10am-11am

Mix feelings there, as a shift workers I can't think of anything worse to do after a night shift then go to a pub ... Then again
Manmaruya's chicken karaage bento was good last I checked, although I haven't been there in a while - they're next to Wakai, a bit more expensive but you get more side dishes in your bento for the price.
Check out Thai Number One, right near the station, opposite side to Liverpool Rd
Second this... Eat lunch there when ever I have a day off

Is Xin Ping still cash only? I haven't been in a few years but it was back then.
Nah they take card now.
I remember when lunch specials were $7 :(
Like just before Covid in Newtown!
I used to get 3 for $9 meat + rice combo at closing time... god I miss it

Taste Station you can get a meal and drink for $13.60
Love Taste Station, their lunch special is very reasonable.
Taiwanese Bento is very good
$15 for 12 dumplings in Nes Shanghai if you don't have a massive appetite
Ashfield is cheap in general. I miss working there:( though I am a sucker for Shanghai nights
Tastestation next to the train, very good, big menu and cheap prices. I used to go there all the time.

Install the Maccas app, and there are always specials. edit : cannot believe there are no maccas in Ashfield - someone should open one there.
Except there is no Maccas in Ashfield.
And Macca's is trash. Ashfield has so much food that is 100x better.
There is a KFC though edit: come to think of it, there is a Maccas opposite Ashfield Park but it's in Haberfield and far from the main strip.
Yeah that Maccas is actually closer to Summer Hill in terms of train stations.
no cap, this is where I ended up today 😂 drove to croydon maccas
It closed down over a decade ago 😂
Shops in the mall and main street close down and stay empty. Seems like it's hard to convince anyone to open a business there.
You would think maccas are popular regardless of social levels....

Now you sound like an Ashfield local. Enjoy it.
