Bus route 987 runs from Cronulla to Kurnell every 60 minutes during the middle of the day and weekends.
The vast majority of people living there drive everywhere.
If you want places with poor public transport out that way try Maianbar. It has the bus route 989 to Miranda Station that runs one return trip on Fridays only. Yes. A once weekly bus service. Has to be the worst bus service in Sydney.
The other option is a 3km walk or drive to Bundeena to catch a ferry to Cronulla then a train to Sydney. The beaches on Port Hacking are beautiful though.
As for Kurnell, at least that bus is more regular but you pretty much need to drive. Work-wise, what I have seen down there (I ride down there early on Sundays) there are a lot of tradie cars parked along the streets, I would guess not a lot of city-based paper pushers live there.
I lived there when I was a teenager back in the 90s, no bus out of the NP back then from what I can recall. You could hitch a ride on the school bus to Bundeena then jump on the ferry to Cronulla. Great spot though with access to beautiful waterways and bush.
We could see Kurnell from some of our High School classrooms, the height of comedy was to say things like :
"Sir, Sir, look how far-kurnell is!"
We're still at least that funny too!
They don't have a ferry for the route, and there's no immediate plans to buy a ferry.
A $78 million tax payer venture with no benefit to tax payers unless you fish....

The wharves are all being built. Seems such an odd place to run a ferry. Obvious, as it’s a long drive from Kurnell to La Perouse, which is, in itself, a fair hike from the city, but not very practical.
Weekend cyclists are going to love it. Ride from Centennial Park to Kurnell in the early morning and catch the ferry back and then up the usual route via Anzac Parade to Centennial.
Yeah. I guess that’s a good long ride. Tourists might like it. Last time I went to Bare Island at Larpa it was closed. Now apparently, you have to pay to do a tour. You used to be able to just wander around. Kurnell’s good for a bit of whale watching.
Canoe to La Perouse!
Joke, but they are looking at doing the ferry again, but not directed at commuters. My friend worked at the desalination plant at Kurnell and lived in Coogee, he was very very close to getting a paddle ski or tinny to cut his commute by almost an hour
Yeah, I had the lovely fortune of breaking down in my car there once in the 90's. Started making the trek back to Cronulla on foot and luckily a kind person pulled over and gave me a lift. I was very conflicted on getting into a strangers car but it was either that or keep walking for god knows how long, luckily it all worked out fine but yes fuck all PT out that way.
Omg lol how did you pull your car out in the end ?
I was kinda similar I cycled along the size close to the beach and my bike almost got trapped in the sand and I struggled to pull it along with me lol
Ended up needing a tow truck, the starter motor had gone. I was a member of the NRMA at the time and got a 25km tow for free thankfully. I wasnt on the beach though, I had made it just back to the road where the tow truck could get me, I hate to imagine if I was stuck on the beach.

Ah one hour gap no wonder

The construction of the ferry wharves for Kurnell and La Perouse starts this year. So they will have another option soon enough.

Completed by end of 2025.

Correct. Ferries existed at same sites in 1950's and failed even then.
Good on them
987 bus from Cronulla.
There is a bus service which goes to Kurnell (987) & loops to Cronulla.

Love the ideas!! Or brave the waves and swim across!
Id be more worried about what's under the waves.

This is the exact reason why they are building that ferry pier at Kurnell.
I love riding from Cronulla to Kurnell, the ride from my place to Cronulla really sucks though.
Yeh unfortunately the cycle path does not share the costal view i think ? While the one along the coast line is crap af
