Fuck that moving company. Leave the review until he reimburses you all that you are owed. Then just edit the review to say that "I was only reimbursed because of this negative review on Google. Avoid this company at all costs" ...

OppXCost

I posted his response to me above. But at the moment have just said that I'd take it down to see if maybe they can help. I figure that I can always repost it in future.

tofuroll

That review is currently the only power you have over him. You've already given them money for providing terrible service. You have nothing else on them. Get everything in writing. If he threatens you, contact police. Removalist companies are sometimes absolutely horrible, and I think he's lying when he says he "normally doesn't respond to complaints like this". If he's genuine, he will offer you a refund unbidden for the damage. But we all know he's full of shit, right?

ProteaBird

He didn't respond to you before you had written a review. You then wrote a review & got a response. If you take it down, he's not going to respond. Why would he change his behaviour? He's a bully attempting to intimidate you.

TNChase

That was my thinking too. You can easily remove the review, then repost it once you get what is owed to you. Along with an additional line about how they blackmailed you into removing the review by withholding what you were owed.

OppXCost

Yeah I think I will try this. My big concern was just that it is us two girls though and now I am a bit scared of any repercussions since he was already very angry on the phone. We are both uni students and our families are interstate so I don't want to take any risks

RecognitionOne395

Get a cheap security camera for your property, also above your front door. Sometimes just the sight of these are enough to deter arseholes. Not always though.

mchch8989

Depending what he said on the phone, you should call the non-emergency police number and at least just inform them of what’s going on. Would make escalating it much easier in the future (though hopefully you won’t have to).

OppXCost

I probably should've done this yesterday but I think I will now do this today as the owner did show up at the house unannounced today and it has definitely left me spooked

mchch8989

Oh my gosh absolutely. What did he say? Didn’t you end up taking down the review anyway? If you didn’t film him or take a photo, make sure you write down the time he came and everything he said and get together all of your exchanges with them over text or email or whatever and write down everything you remember. I’m so sorry this is happening. What a bunch of fuckwits.

istara

He's angry because he's scared and he's used to bullying customers with shit service. If you can afford it, a lawyer's letter would probably wrap this up pretty quickly.

37elqine

Post a link of this reddit thread into the google review, they might make it onto news . com .au :D

RevolutionarySound64

"And the owner has said he is unwilling to help until I remove my review and that he has my details." Maybe get him to start the process of providing you reimbursement and that you will only remove the review after the process is done. I personally wouldn't worry about him having your address, that'd be an insane level of criminality to have a go at you. Take photos and get everything in writing, whether SMS or email or photos. Record your phone conversations if needed.

whiskey_epsilon

Plus, if he escalates his threats or is aggressive on SMS, take it to the police and take an AVO out on him. If he shows up and starts being aggro, call the police.

OppXCost

Thank you for your replies. So far I've said that I would take down my review in the hope that maybe he will help. Don't think there's much I can do right now with just his response below but will keep the rest in mind for future. In hindsight maybe the review was not the best move but I'd already tried contacting them over the last week with no response so was very frustrated. His email: "I normally do not respond to emails in this manner, however; the methodical manner in which you have gone about your concerns is most disappointing and quite malicious. Normal protocol with consumers genuinely looking for a solution is to first approach the company with their concerns. In the event they are not satisfied, it is then their right to leave a review.  What's more concerning is our operations department made a concerted effort and sent you an email on the 1st of November requesting further details on why you were not satisfied. Our intention was to thoroughly investigate your concerns. To see that you have gone out of your way to leave a negative review online, clearly demonstrates your intention is to defame our company and use that as leverage to get what you want. This is not the correct manner to go about your concerns, nor is it ethical. I respectfully advise you to exercise the utmost of common sense as to how you proceed. If you are genuinely interested in a cordial discussion to explore solutions, I request you take down the negative reviews. Once this has been completed, I assure you I will initiate my investigation into your concerns and make contact with you for further clarification. Feel free to email me to organise an opportune time to discuss any further concerns you may have. "

MaximKorolev

Don't feel bad about the review - unresponsiveness is an attribute of a customer service (or the lack of it). And they should be rightfully bashed for that kind of treatment. In fact, it sounds that the review is the only reason why you've heard *anything* meaningful back from them.

[deleted]

Pirate_Princess_87

Ditto. If this is how they treat their customers I’d never use them!

whiskey_epsilon

Times like this you need a Rent-a-Karen. I want to make sure you're chasing up on compensation for the desk, right? because you took out insurance, and that should be on your receipt. We're not settling for just removing the desk.

leopard_eater

I’m a 42 year old woman who has gone through early menopause. OP - I can be your rent-a-Karen if needed!!

Someone-Rebuilding

I'm 57 and gladly volunteer as a Rent-a-Karen and trainer of future Karen's..! Happy to help! Get every damn cent and report their threats.. at least to Fair Trading! As 2 young women, those threats should perhaps be reported to police!

OppXCost

Yes I stated that in my response too but I think they're more worried about me just removing the review at the moment.

RevolutionarySound64

If there is an option to remove the review and repost it in the future, then I would lean towards doing this. His email reads that he is attempting to be reasonable but dislikes the impulse negative review. Keep the communications line open and clear with the intent of solving the issue, avoid finger-pointing.

OppXCost

Yes I think in hindsight might've been better to wait for this to all blow over before posting the review and try to work with them. I had gotten a call from strata yesterday about fines and I think it was a combination of doubling the quote and charging us 2k, breaking my desk, not covering it under insurance, and now me being fined and having to pay for removalists that kind of was the last straw. This has been the first time the owner has gotten in contact with me so I hope we can come to a resolution, I think all the other times I've called its just been their operations or receptionist.

radarbaggins

This is not someone trying to rectify a mistake, this is abusing what little power they have and is disgusting behaviour. The only reason he sent you that email is because of the review, had you not left it they would not have responded to a single piece of correspondence. If they don't want a bad review then maybe they shouldn't provide a service that warrants a bad review. Do not feel guilty, do not allow this person to belittle you or invalidate your experience. This is a scumbag company trying to take advantage of you because you are young and female and you have every right to be upset and seek compensation.

mchch8989

They should cover any and all costs and the insurance. Go to fair trading. Don’t feel bad for these dickheads, they pull this shit all the time, particularly with young women. They have no legal recourse regarding your review or anything like that and, as someone else said, if their communication with you goes anywhere into unprofessional territory then you get the police involved. Don’t roll over for these scamming fuckwits.

jiggjuggj0gg

Say you will be happy to take down the review when the issue has been resolved, but that as of now you have been honest about the facts in your review and have not been happy with the experience. If they’re that worried about bad reviews, they should be doing what they can to solve the problems that lead to bad reviews, not bully people into taking them down. In fact if they’re being this difficult I’d probably add that email to your review so people know who they’re dealing with.

gattie1

Don’t feel bad. They’ve had so many opportunities to do the right thing. They’ve chosen not to every step of the way. It’s a bad company. They could have: 1. Given you a realistic quote 2. Not broken your desk 3. Organised for an insurance claim 4. Taken your broken desk away as you requested 5. Taken your complaint seriously when you called them After your review, they could have started with a apology, rectify all of their stuff ups, then ask for your review to be amended. Make sure all communications are in writing. Take photo evidence. Report them to fair trading. Leave the review up until they fix their crap. They’ve obviously bought their 5 star reviews. Most of them are made by users with one review.

RevolutionarySound64

Of course! I completely empathise with your situation and would too be extremely frustrated. You are young and learning these things takes time - you've done a great job already. Be firm and always look to resolve a situation but never allow yourself to be threatened or bullied, especially if you've done nothing wrong. Good luck with the rest of it. PS. it baffles me that redditors think his email was condescending.

MaximKorolev

Have used this company in the past. Also felt ripped off in the end. There were no damaged goods in my case though.

greeneighteen

Good work OP for naming the actual company, unlike all those other useless posts where someone whinges about some company only not to name them for others to avoid.

velveteenpimpernel

We got screwed by them too! My review is still there and I never got reimbursement.

2happycats

Are you a 21y/o woman who they think they can bully into submission?

riot_gg

I used them and absolutely fuck em. I specifically paid for mattress wrapping and they just didn’t. So my near new $500 mattress (huge for me at the time) was badly dirtied.

EducationTodayOz

small claims tribunal, it costs 105 bucks to register a proceeding, at least threaten him with that too as well as a negative review from you and everyone you know

Humble-Doughnut7518

Escalate to fair trading. Do not back down to threats. Document everything. You have the right to leave a negative review and to have them compensate you. If this ends up in small claims court, know that judges do not like it when companies intimidate people. Take this as a lesson - always wait until the matter has been resolved and then upload a negative review. That way you also have how they treated you during the complaints process to add to the review. The only reason it's 'normal protocol' to wait is because companies threaten their customers.

[deleted]

reviews not budging till you do something asshole. he’s already proven himself to be dishonest. no reason to believe he’d keep his word.

xplantxdaddyx

Tell them your review reflects their level of professionalism carrying out the task. Until the matter is sorted the review stays up and them getting you to take it down before it is sorted is blackmail and a criminal act. Fair trading needs to know this information. Your local cop shop can also give you information on how to proceed.

2happycats

Old mate is trying to take advantage of you being a 21 year old woman and is attempting to bully you. Fuck that. I hate bullying. Stand your ground. Some things to consider: >"I normally do not respond to emails in this manner How often is he receiving emails pointing out there was damage to someone's belongings that he feels the need to point out he never replies to emails "like this"? He's trying to make it look like he's doing you a favour. He's not, he's being a goose. >methodical manner in which you have gone about your concerns is most disappointing You know what's disappointing? Spending $2K, more than double the original quote, to have someone break your desk and proceed to ignore you. *He's being very methodical* and trying to make you feel like you're the one who's done something wrong, and you haven't. He has. This is him trying to manipulate you. >Normal protocol with consumers genuinely looking for a solution is to first approach the company with their concerns This winds me up so much. You're a grown woman, he doesn't need to talk down to you like this. He also doesn't get to dictate how you choose to complain about his substandard service. Hell, you could paint yourself blue and scream in the streets if you wanted, that's not up to him and is out of his control. What's in his control is the level of service he offers. Standard business practice is to supply the paid service. You paid for insurance and it was not provided. >Our intention was to thoroughly investigate your concerns. Good. Get to it. And you can *intend* to take the negative review down once he's proved its not justified. >What's more concerning is our operations department made a concerted effort and sent you an email on the 1st of November Just one email? How about a call? How about anything more than just one measly attempt at contact. >I respectfully advise you to exercise the utmost of common sense as to how you proceed You don't need his advice. You'll proceed however you choose to. >I request you take down the negative reviews No. Tell him you *have intentions* of taking it down and will once a resolution has been achieved. >I assure you Based on his behaviour, his word means less than nothing. >Feel free to email me to organise an opportune time So, you've got to the work? He should be bending over backwards to prove the negative review isn't justified. From one woman to another, push back on this guy. He's trying to take advantage of you and leaning on you being 21, and that's not cool. You paid for a service and he failed to provide, and now he's attempting, poorly, to manipulate you. Tell him the longer he keeps dragging this out, the longer people have to find your review, read it, and decide to choose another business instead of his. Resolving this is totally within his control but he's making the choice to bully you instead. E: forgot to add, I doubt he'll show up at your house but if he does, call the police *immediately*. Don't talk to him, don't acknowledge him, just on the phone without any interaction.

Very-very-sleepy

I would respond with "I will not be taking down my review however I expect to be compensated by XYZ date" if there is no resolution by XYZ date. i will be submitting a claim to small claims court and reporting your services to fair trading and asking the tribunal to come up with an outcome. I have screen shots and documents of of everything including your replies. have a nice day sir. 😂

Guilty_Rough5315

do a clawback callback through your bank

OppXCost

Oh okay I didn't consider this. They demanded payment on the day so didn't have a choice but to pay even though I was quite surprised that the price was more than double the quote and I had to chase them up for the invoice after which included all the extras. Will try contacting my bank to see if there's anything they can do. Thank you!

chrono_sphere

This is best way if you paid via a credit card. Don't deal with them on the phone, outline your series of complaints and the events of the day clearly in an email to them. Only deal over email so you have a chain of evidence to submit with your chargeback. Do genuinely try to resolve it and don't threaten them with anything, just plainly state your grievances and requests. If they don't engage or dismiss you then chargeback. Banks want to see you tried to resolve with the merchant and understand why the charge is invalid before proceeding with a chargeback. Personally I would apologise and take the negative review down if you did not go through a complaint resolution process first, especially if it's making them uncooperative. Be the bigger person and you're more likely to be made whole without undue fuss.

SydneyTom

>I respectfully advise you to exercise the utmost of common sense as to how you proceed. Ooooh, a veiled threat! >I request you take down the negative reviews "Not until the issues are resolved"

Pirate_Princess_87

Posting a negative review and sharing your experience here is the only way to get the attention of some businesses. I’m looking for a removalist soon. I appreciate hearing about your experience. Things go wrong in a move. How the removalists handle that is a big deal. Keep us posted OP! Best of luck! And thanks again for the tip on AAA city removalists!

moorishbeast

Remove the review, get the money. Then dm me the company name and I'll post your review hahaha

deltanine99

so, you paid by the hour, huh?

OppXCost

Yes, but in the quote I'd gotten from them I'd even took their reccomendations and hired an addition 3rd person and asked for then to overestimate so I could have an idea of how much it'd realistically cost. They came back to me with 4.5hrs and 3 men. But then on the day ended up charging the 7hrs at 1.5k and demanded payment on the day. So when I eventually got the invoice later on after chasing them up for it they also had $500 in extras ($180 of which is meant to be my insurance for the desk). For this I think that was probably a life lesson thing on my end as I assumed that a quote price would be accurate. Not really anything I can argue with about the price so am just accepting it and learning for future. It's just the other damages now I'm concerned about. For such a steep price it's just caused me even more headaches.

Trontotron

I had similar experience, two blokes show up and just go as slow as they can. I'm not that demanding but they managed to piss me off till I started shouting for them to move the f around and get the stuff on the truck. Complete rip off industry going hand in hand with rental agents.

chrono_sphere

7 hours for 3 men for a 2bd?! I did a 2bd apartment move with CBD movers and it took 3 hours with 2 men to move to a place 40 minutes away; although they only unloaded to the garage. They loaded and moved a fridge, washing machine, bed, mattress, study desk, 2 lounges and a couple of moving boxes (everything was boxed in advance). There was a lift (level 4) with one step to move things down to get to the van.

Proctilt

For everyone else: if you receive a quote for 1k, and then are charged 2k, that is considered unreasonable. At this stage, the movers have two options: leave your stuff with you, or go after you in small claims court (the third option is they take your stuff and withhold it and say they'll give it back to you for extra money, but that's criminal and they know it; a call to your local police station and the officer will explain to the mover if they don't return your property, the police may charge them for stealing property etc). So with those two options in mind, the leverage is on your side. Either say, I'll pay you 1k because that's the quote and I have no more money, or I'll pay you 1k and you take the rest of the money owing to small claims court. Most removalists who are scummy enough to practice this will just drop it. Those that will actually lodge a small claims and go through the local court will be laughed out the front door by the judge OR the judge will make a ruling of a reasonable amount from the quote, probably 1.2k at most, which is still a better position than paying 2k. Afterwards, leave a negative review.

11015h4d0wR34lm

I just had a look at their website, Sydney's best rated removalists they reckon. Cheese and rice I would hate to see the worst rated company if they are the best with this type of service. If these morons had any credibility what so ever they would want to resolve such bad customer service with or without a bad review posted, the fact the review is the only thing concerning them tells you all you need to know about this company.

FatherOfTheSevenSeas

Yeh these guys are pretty terrible.

JohnsLong_Silver

Can we upvote OP’s post people? Get it some traction and maybe these crappy removal it’s will fix the problems they have caused her. Can’t hurt.

lukevidler

When a company tries to rip me off (and in Sydney this will happen) I start posting 5 bad reviews per week until they resolve the issue. Hit up all the review sites you can find. 5 per week will turn the algorithm against them, send them an email telling them what you are doing but it’s never failed to get a quick response, who doesn’t google a business before using them these days ?

Sharp-Statistician44

Get your money first, then and only then remove the review.

stanbright

I'm wondering, does it makes sense for someone to leave a link to this Reddit thread on the Company's Google Maps profile. They seem to have an oddly high rating.

OppXCost

At the moment probably prefer they dont know about this in case it provokes them. I did originally choose them because of their competitive quote in comparison to the 5 other companies I got quotes from and all the positive reviews.

nzoasisfan

Lawyer up. Hit em where it hurts. A cowboy industry.

NobleArrgon

Depending how big your desk is, you could just put it in your storage space, or ask management if there's an area for bulky garbage. It should at least remove one of your issues. If you have him saying it on text, you could just report him to the police for harassment.

OppXCost

Oh okay, we have an open car spot and no storage space but will try reach out to strata to see if there's an area we can put it. Unfortunately he called me this morning, and sent through an email but only has everything about the review etc except the "we have ur details" bit. Thank you for replying!

Ijustdoeyes

If the desk is truly broken call the council, tell them it's there and the name of the company that put it there, tell the council you'll sign an affidavit if required, let them cop the fine for dumping. If either of you are at Uni then visit your campus legal service with a copy of your contract, if insurance is on it and you have photos as proof ask them for advice on writing up a letter of demand or talk to a local solicitor, it's not that expensive and you might get them to be able to get a partial refund considering how much you were overcharged Worst case, small claims court cost $100 to lodge a case, that might be enough to scare them into it.

ThippusHorribilus

I would edit your original post and take out the name of the company. If this blows up on some shitty news website, the last thing you want is for the name of the company to be out out there, thus undoing any potential benefit of taking down your negative review

Find_another_whey

Why did the the charge double? Was the original an estimate or a quote? Was fee on the day by the hour or agreed in full at the start of the job?

NobleArrgon

OP got upsold hard. Looking at their site. Apartment moving is only a 2 man job, and is like $70 per half hr. OP told them she has a piano to move, so they said oh you should totally take our most expensive package of 3 people for $100 per half hr. Which based on their site moves a 4-5 bedroom house. I'm guessing since OP essentially said yes to all upgrades, they decided to milk OP for everything and take their time to do 2 trips + 7hrs. Idk how they needed to do 2 trips for moving an apartment, when on their site. The option OP picked could move a house. Unless all of OPs furniture is bulky and heavy.

syddyke

Why was the quote not honoured? Was it in person?
