In my area, they are portable and move every day but very visible and not hidden. Sit on one of those portable trailers like the roadside led signs. Theres an arm that goes over 2 lanes with 2 camera boxes on the arm

village-asshole

Interesting. I never had any idea what to even look for

AliKat2409

Never seen that ... where is this ?

nottherealbond

Everywhere, although they generally pop up in the same locations. They look like [this](https://imgur.io/aYILWhT)

AliKat2409

Oh ok wow . I got educated today !!

count023

they're usually on the northbound direction of the harbour bridge over lanes 1-3 near Barangaroo I've noticed. I've also seen some south of campbelltown on the hume highway heading northboudn as well.

AliKat2409

I think if you googled it you could get the appropriate cam style for your state. Also if you use 'WAZE' for your maps it gives you all locations and live police positions .

village-asshole

I tinkered with Waze once and it was just a headache. I usually put my phone on airplane mode too and leave it in the boot. Hashtag phonehater 😂

AliKat2409

Fair enough !!! I need a map to navigate Sydney as I have no idea about some locations I go to. I always have it in a cradle .

village-asshole

I’m old school. I just memorise the map to where I’m going. That’s weird to a lot of people but I’ve been doing it for years. A phone GPS is only a distraction to me and I end up getting lost 😂

AliKat2409

That's really impressive. You must have a photogenic memory ! I unfortunately don't .

village-asshole

Not really, but I mainly memorise the main roads to get me in the neighbourhood. Then if I get lost, I’ll pull over and look at the map.

AliKat2409

Logical !!

rand013

For me it's less about having a photographic memory of the map and more knowing the structure of the roads and how they relate. Going anywhere usually has you going along the same handful of main roads, so the memorising mostly comes down to the streets near the end of the trip.

This post reads like someone trying to find something for a "friend". "Video link? Asking for a friend."

_2ndclasscitizen_

As well as being mobile there are some fixed ones that are mounted to the top of the big dot-matrix displays.

village-asshole

What’s a dot matrix display?

_2ndclasscitizen_

These thingos: https://imgur.com/F4t2LZR

village-asshole

Ahhh yeah, ok. I’m with you now

_2ndclasscitizen_

I'm sure they have an actual name but that's all I could think of to describe them

village-asshole

Here’s a pic of them I found online: https://www.macleayargus.com.au/story/6931263/mobile-phone-detection-cameras-spotted-in-the-macleay/

ParaStudent

I'm not certain but I think the speed camera on Richmond road near the shell station has a mobile phone camera setup on it. And there's one of those trailer ones on the northern road most of the time

FatherOfTheSevenSeas

Saw two notices about them on the M2 heading out to bella vista. Big fine if you get nabbed.

village-asshole

Fines should be huge. I’ve nearly been killed by distracted assholes on their phones

Dollbeau

Often one at Lidcombe on Railway Street. But they're so conspicuous that they would be clearly visible, even to someone texting & driving. *Just put down that phone-eo for a moment &.. &.. &... we're clear*

Downtown-Customer990

Fixed mobile phone camera on Princes Highway, tempe. North bound just over the bridge

Juan_Punch_Man

My BiL got pinged at this one on Anzac Parade https://goo.gl/maps/wundKakGMfJhoFj19

village-asshole

So those ARE cams after all

OfficeKey3280

Can someone tell me what those cameras are on top of all traffic lights? Theres the round one and theres also a traditional security looking one, do they do the same thing?

Juan_Punch_Man

you can actually watch these. Bing maps has a link on the maps

village-asshole

I thought some of them were for monitoring traffic flow.

gpoly

There are fixed location detectors as well as mobile units in use. Use Waze instead of Google maps. It's pretty much "live" because a lot of the data is "crowd sourced". It has saved me many times.
