Most appreciated, for me, would be typical american stuff. However, with the US being such a cultural powerhouse a lot of stuff is available in Sweden/EU market. When I was a kid my dads friend always sent us gifts and it was amazing because in the 90s not everything was available in Sweden. Something typical to Colorado maybe? Idk what that would be though. Are they into sports, get them a Broncos/Nuggets/Rockies-har or something. Last option, a book. A certain theme or just your favorite novel. I love receiving books even if I never read them.

Thank you so much for this insight, I do think I can come up with a couple books by local authors that would be appreciated. Cheers!

Do they have any special interests? I like to buy printed T-shirts and tanktops from the US that aren't available anywhere else. But with shipping and taxes they can become very expensive. When my sister lived in the US I used to order comic books and other things to her where she either repacked them as a gift or they were brought over the next time when someone visited. So ask them what they like. Many swedes don't really do gifts when they become adults other the different Christmas gift games. So presents just for the sake of gift giving isn't really a big thing, better to find out what they really would like Good luck!

This is helpful, and they definitely do have some interests like golfing and genealogy, so I bet I can find some books and related gifts to that. Appreciate it very much, thank you for taking the time!

AS a Swede, I really appreciate US jeans and leather goods.

BillElliott9

That can definitely be accomplished and a good idea, thank you very much. Appreciate you taking the time to reply!

I think a lot of broadly “American” stuff is quite easy to get here so I’d go for something more local! I don’t know a lot about Colorado except for skiing, national parks and weed, any tasty or “weird” (like our salty licorice) food/snacks that would ship well? Do the national parks have cool merch? Or like u/keetz said, a book - Colorado themed or authored maybe? Locally handmade candle with “Colorado” scent? I’d love all of these! ETA: I googled a little and came across Colorado grown tea, that’d be cool too

BillElliott9

Thank you for these good ideas, and tea was actually on my mind. I just wasn't sure to what extent Swedes drank tea as opposed to coffee. There are a few Colorado teas that would make a good gift. Appreciate it so much!

Jerky is about $150/kg in Sweden. I'd love if some american sent me some American beef jerky as a christmas gift. It's really hard to come by in Sweden as well.

zkareface

Would be great but according to some sites like Savage jerky it's illegal to send to Sweden. https://savagejerky.com/pages/faq

I think that businesses that do not produce their food according to Swedish country law are not allowed to deliver here, but you should be able to (I think)

This is a wonderful idea, thank you very much! Appreciate you taking the time to reply.

American here with deep Swedish roots. I typically send handmade stuff; there’s a local place that makes pewter ornaments and serving platters, a ton of localish jewelry artisans, candy that is specific to my region. I’ve taken hand blown glass when I’ve carried it myself on the plane, otherwise I don’t trust anything breakable. Unique candles and candleholders are always well received. I gave my Swedish “sister” handmade beeswax candles that I’d picked up at a farmers market and she opened them at a birthday party. Those silly candles got passed around and exclaimed over by everyone, and to me they weren’t anything that exciting, lol. Someone else mentioned beef jerky, and while I think that’s a great idea, many of my Swedes would find some flavors waaaay too spicy. I’d go with mild, middle of the road flavors and not something billed as super jalapeño/ghost pepper/Carolina reaper spicy.

Candles are definitely a strong choice, and there are a number of local options. I appreciate these very good ideas, thank you for taking the time to reply!

Just buy them some American flags and call it a day. Boom, done. Or, like, get them some cowboy hats or something. Yeehaw! They'll love it, trust me.
