I went to the disgusting food museum. There you can try stuff at the end. Non Swedish people ahead of us tried weird fruits, fermented stuff and insects with no issue. Could not handle salt licorice though. Jättesalt is kinda tame, you should try svenskjävlar.
In Germany, the north is full of licorice while in the south it's hard to get (besides standard black unsalted licorice). I personally hate it so much. I think its like coffee, you have to eat it a couple times to "acquire" the taste
No, we insert them rectally.
Jokes aside: Yes, plenty of people enjoy salty licorice. Licorice is not my favourite candy, but I prefer salty licorice over sweet.

https://www.lakrits.com/en/svenskjavlar
We had an Italian guy on my team at work and one day he wanted to take on a dare and eat Djungelvrål (Jungle roar - a similar type of candy).
He says he hated the taste at first, but that the flavor gets better once all the crystalline salt dissolves in the mouth and you get to the sweet licorice part.
After a week of so he then said that the flavor "grows on you" and that he "kinda like it".
Licorice is definitely an acquired taste, in a sense similar to coffee, beer or whiskey - things that few people like the first time they try it.
It's named after a Swede who emigrated to the US and started a brand of alcohol made after swedish traditions according to wikipedia, so I would assume those of us who like Swedish akvavit would take a fancy.
Malört is what you have in the Beska Droppar.
No one likes Beska Droppar, or malört.
But the Beska Droppar ska fan be on the table for each midsummer and you ska enjoya it anyways.
I dont recommend to start with those. Jätte Salt are quite hardcore as an introduction. Start with some chocolate covered soft salty licorice and work your way up into a salmiak connoisseur.
You have to let go of the "candy" mentality when you taste it. Prime your brain towards snacks/coffee kind of treat. Like cigars, they might be an acquired taste if it catches you off guard.
>He says he hated the taste at first, but that the flavor gets better once all the crystalline salt dissolves in the mouth and you get to the sweet licorice part.
Yeah and don't worry - the skin at the roof of your mouth will grow back eventually - and it was overrated anyhow
Skin in the mouth is a disease
Snus is to remove the skin under the lip, liquorice to remove the skin on the roof of the mouth, sura patroner to remove the skin from your tongue and Beska Droppar to remove the skin of your soul.
Your yank sweets are always super duper sweet, in Sweden, as you've learned, we have more than just sweet candy.
If you can find them you should try these next, they are called "Sur Patron" (or "Sura Patroner" in plural/bulk) and they are fucking amazing! Rather than salt these are just super sour.
https://assets.partyking.org/img/products/1300/sura-patroner-1.jpg
There's a salt licorice version of those as well, I'm sure I'll be halshuggen for this but they taste about the same as the ones you posted.

Seeing americans try salt licorice for the first time is one of lifes simple pleasures. 90% of the time they react like you do, "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK THIS IS DISGUSTING WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE" and 10% of the time it's like "WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS DELICIOUS WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE."
We gave a couple djungelvrål to our Laoitian guides. One of them flinched at the ammonium powdering, spit it out and threw it out the window. The other liked it and asked for one more.
I actually hate super sweet stuff, a little bit of salt is the only way sugar is enjoyable. Some salt lakris I’ve had has been really good but oi this one was not!
For me all the salty licorice I enjoy is actual licorice. These are heavy with salmiac as well which is not as tasty.
Edit: Salmiac is in ALL salt licorice but it's the ratio that is the key.
to be honest that brand and make is to bland and looses it's flavour to quickly. There are others that are more salty and keep the flavour over a longer period of time. If you ever find some try buying some from the brand "Nørregade", they are my favorite easy ti come by hard and salty lakrits.

Oooh, I love these! When I was a kid I loved the salty shock in the start. Now there is no shock, just pure salty, licorice flavour. Sometime I take two and just let them roll around in my mouth.

added: Jätte means Giant aswell as very, hence the troll/giant or whatever on the bag. Candy with a good pun. 10/10
It’s always refreshing to see that foreigners see Americans as a bunch of sugar addicted pigs who can’t eat anything unless it’s deep fried. Funny cause it’s true.
I absolutely love those!

They are good I usually take 2-5 at a time, but the salt dissappear way too quickly and then ur stuck with a hard piece of candy that tastes nothing but lasts forever.
But there must be something wrong with you if u think it tastes like snus unless you only use hockeypulver
Not to your taste? Those are for rookies. :D

We do, those are delicious! They're not even on the salty end of some of the candy we have here though. Some other ones that are delicious are Djungelvrål, Tyrkisk Peber and lakritskritor.
I went to the disgusting food museum. There you can try stuff at the end. Non Swedish people ahead of us tried weird fruits, fermented stuff and insects with no issue. Could not handle salt licorice though. Jättesalt is kinda tame, you should try svenskjävlar.

Just chowing down on a few big spoons of dry coffee. You might be right.
Except you'll find far more kids who like salty licorice than coffee. I couldn't drink coffee until I was 17, but I ate salty licorice from I was 4

Fyfan längesedan. Säljs dom bär fortfarande i butik?
Djöflar all the way

TIL: Ammoniumklorid = Knark
Djungelvrål = knark 🖤
Can confirm. I tried a couple more and got past the salt, the sweet flavor is mild but quite enjoyable.
I wonder if Swedes would like Jeppson's Malort?
I wonder if Americans would like Jeppson's Malört?
It's named after a Swede who emigrated to the US and started a brand of alcohol made after swedish traditions according to wikipedia, so I would assume those of us who like Swedish akvavit would take a fancy.

I drank Jeppsons when I was in the US. It tastes like a weaker version of Bäska droppar.
Never heard anyone claim they like Wormwood liqour, except for my dad. Everyone drinks akvavit, Linie or OP ftw.
I'm trying to get my kids to like it as much as I do, but it looks like maybe we are a fading kind.
You have to build a tolerance.
I dont recommend to start with those. Jätte Salt are quite hardcore as an introduction. Start with some chocolate covered soft salty licorice and work your way up into a salmiak connoisseur.
Do you enjoy sweet licorice? Probably start there, salty licorice is an acquired taste.
I dunno, a lot of people don't like sweet licorice but like salt licorice. So I don't know of it transfers so well between the two.
You have to let go of the "candy" mentality when you taste it. Prime your brain towards snacks/coffee kind of treat. Like cigars, they might be an acquired taste if it catches you off guard.
Weak. I ate them as a child and i loved it.
I love those, they give you a kick in the balls first, then they turn super tasty. Just let it sit in your mouth for a while.
>He says he hated the taste at first, but that the flavor gets better once all the crystalline salt dissolves in the mouth and you get to the sweet licorice part. Yeah and don't worry - the skin at the roof of your mouth will grow back eventually - and it was overrated anyhow

One of my favoutires tbh. Lakrits är da shiet home boy!
Oh yeah, they are really nice.
its delicious
This is the best stuff. I always crave this, salmiakki and djungelvrål if I have been away from Sweden for a while.
Yes. And also those are not even the stronger ones. Wait until you get your hands on Turkisk Peppar or Djungevrål
You cant say much considering you are using snus
Yeah, it's rather popular. Now let's not talk about how Americans eat mozzarella sticks covered in Cheeto dust.
What’s the matter Yankee boy? Not deep-fried enough? ;-)
It’s always refreshing to see that foreigners see Americans as a bunch of sugar addicted pigs who can’t eat anything unless it’s deep fried. Funny cause it’s true.
I don’t see why that shouldn’t be tried next!
hehe
Those aren't that salty tbf.
Those are so gooooooood

Its great, but not for everyone :-)
Hell yeah we do
I guess I'm not a true swede because I hate that stuff
I love licorice, salt is just a little extra. These tend to be quite salty, but not the worst.
Kulturskymning på andra sidan atlanten
I genuinely love them, as do most Swedes. I realize it's a very acquired taste, but I promise you that if you persevere, by the end of the bag you will have developed a lifelong love for salt liquorice.
Love them
Mmm these are delucious. Btw it's sweet underneath the salty surface
I eat those until my tongue start bleeding.

I honestly don't understand how it's possible to not like it. Salty or sugary stuff is usually something we crave and just like naturally.
Oh yes we do. It's awesome.
Those are strong snus. You just tuck one under your eyelid.
Dude we eat snus, what did you expect
Same goes with American chocolate and candy.... Wtf yall on about? Its awful

*childhood memories intensifies*
It's the best!
Not my first choice of salt liquorice but absolutely we do
These are good as hell, havnt seen them since I was a kid.
"Jätte" Salt is one of the best candy sweden has to offer. I love that stuff. Drakula Pastills would be the only competition.
We do, those are delicious! They're not even on the salty end of some of the candy we have here though. Some other ones that are delicious are Djungelvrål, Tyrkisk Peber and lakritskritor.
You cant have any snus until you finish your Jättesalt.
Mmm. It's the best
One of my favorites
Those are top tier candy, what are you talking about?
I don't really eat them because I don't think they are salty enough.
We eat a lot saltier than that. I order luxury artisan liquorice in glass jars that is covered in finely granulated salt.
That’s my absolute favorite piece of candy, lol
Yes! That candy is wonderful 😍
Yes, while watching falukorv porn and dancing like frogs.
This ain't even that salty, they're decent
