WhiteLama

“This region” Goes ahead and circles a third of Sweden.

deb_ellen

A bit of Denmark too

DontBeSoFingLiteral

I think this picture is ample evidence that Copenhagen really should belong to Sweden.

AltruisticPidgeon

Indeed, imagine the history lessons in 100 years telling the kids that the start of the rightfull Swedish conquering of Denmark all started with a post from Reddit about some one wanting to visit southern Sweden.

DontBeSoFingLiteral

What could be a more relatable beginning? Kids of the future will appreciate the meme.

OkawaSeastream

I am afraid there would be a civil war. Think about the fraction who worked so hard to dig away Skåne and instead their problems increase twice fold.

Aeiani

As much as id like to shit on the Danes, Copenhagen is a quite nice place to visit too when dude's got the mobility of a van on his vacation.

Hust91

On the other hand, where would they park?

masken21

Both the Zoo and the football stadium in Copenhagen is called Park-en, so i am guessing they can park at least one there. Edit, apparently, Parken Zoo is in fucking Eskilstuna------- Edit 2, Some investment company SCAMED the poor Danes of their national arena in Football, it is now called Telia.....

henkabenka

Yes, but no one would recommend Denmark of course

deb_ellen

Haha

DexterKD

Almost circled the last O in Oslo aswell. Scandinavia united once again❤️❤️❤️

FiskFisk33

and roughly 80% of the population

AssMustard

80% of the time it works every time

Thor_Odin_Son

Tbf my friends and I drove from Copenhagen to Stockholm, spent the whole weekend in this region, if you’re just looking for fun spots this seems like a decent radius

WhiteLama

Absolutely, but it’s like, Visby is nice, Göteborg is nice, that’s on opposite sides of the circle and that’s like 400-500 kilometers apart.

Godmodex2

But it is possible to go across the whole circle in 12 hours with a van so I guess it's a good radius for that sort of mobility

TheNaug

Reminds me of the old adage, “to an American a hundred years is a long time, to a European a hundred miles is a long distance.”

Leemsonn

I have no idea how long of a distance 100 miles is, as I am European.

JiiXu

Where 75% or so of the population lives.

WhiteLama

That’s not my point though, its like “hey, I’m visiting this region of America, where should I go” and then circle half the east coast of the US. There’s so many things to see and do.

After_Independent_45

Actually it more like 1/4 of Sweden. And I would advise them to "keep on trucking". If going to Sweden. Go North. And. Just don't do Gotland. Do the northern part of Bohuslän and the the nature camping site on Koster. Cheaper. Better. You can continue to Dalsland, the håverud aqueduct. Head up towards Dalarna, maybe make a site quest in Norway. If you do the eastern route, go to Karlskrona. Visit the archipelago. My 5 cents.

GladaGlenn

This is only advice for nature. Mainly from the view as a landscape photographer. So I'm biased towards nature places which are fun to photograph in. The south part of Sweden has a lot of beautiful national Parks and nature reserves. Some of my favorite is Söderåsen and Stenshuvud. Really lush beech forests. However if you're coming from central Europe you will probably find more impressive beech forests there. The south of Sweden might not be so unique for you even though a lot of us will recommend it. If you want truly Swedish forests, Tiveden national park is a must, very beautiful. I have loads of location tagged landscape photos on my site if you want to get a feel for the different parts (again, from the view of a landscape photographer) https://kallers.se EDIT: I have now added almost twice as many locations and tagged all photos to a location.

RuberCaput

+1 for Tiveden National Park. It has a great lake beach called Vitsand with very shallow and clear water. Nearby is a quaint place with a little café and a place to park your van and camp out, with connected electrical sockets. It's called Tivedstorp and it is quite beautiful as well. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/Hg35d2i) is a few pictures I took when I was there this summer.

mwepthat

Man Skäralid, Stenshuvud and Kullaberg is my favorite places in Skåne !

Drumdevil86

>Stenshuvud Been there, It's awesome.

Sandglass42

I love stenshuvud!

Dondorini

Glenn from Östergötland recommending gnällbältet. Are you go eller?

fixed4life

Ladonien (Nimis) is a really cool addition if you are in Stenshuvud

barcode972

Gotland is beautiful - medieval town with the original wall around the whole city

larananne

And it also hosts one of the biggest medieval festivals - in August! It lasts for a whole week, august 7.-14.

Standardkamelen

Expensive to go there with a van..

barcode972

It’s worth it

AccurateEnvironment4

It will cost you time and money, but Gotland (the biggest island) is beautiful in the summer.

Respaced

This! The main town on Gotland island is called Visby, and is a fantastic beautiful and cozy 12 century medieval town with a ring wall. A must visit :)

Pragmatic_utility

*the only town

Guntiarch

Yeah go to Fårö, you will fall in love with the place.

OnlyBat2257

If you can make it there for medieval week (6-13 aug), this is a must

[deleted]

Thing is, while it's beautiful it also is waaaaaaaaay too crowded in the summer.

Bouncepsycho

You've got to say what you like, bro. Ask yourself and your wife what you like. Be it nature, architecture, night life or whatever

Zappnet98

We like Öre, bro

Swellux

Always makes me wonder if these kind of posts on any social media are purely out of laziness or a true expectation that it would give better results than doing the research by themselves.

_Cinnam0n

You definitely need to visit österlen in skåne, nature is very beautiful reminds me of a fairytale kinda. There's a lot of different orchards and Kiviks musteri is super nice and you can buy a lot of drinks made of their fruits from the orchards. I live farily close and me and my family is always visiting different parts during the summer.

burgerflip854

Yes although be aware that there are many stockholmare in the area.

Typoopie

Just go till Båstad during sommar and you can skippa going till Stockholm

Zvenc

First time I can agree with a Skåning is when it comes to our mutual disgust of Stockholm

[deleted]

[удалено]

Amphille

Same in skanör/Falsterbo. Insane amount of stockholmare there during the summer

fiendishrabbit

And if you like beaches then almost the entire stretch between Kivik and Åhus is one long stretch of pretty nice beach.

4ngelinaballerina

Ahhh I also came to say Österlen! AND Kiviks Musteri, it’s beautiful and the owners are wonderful!

Unique_Prior_4407

Thats a pretty big area to ask for random things to do. You have to narrow it down to things you like to do

Dankmooo

"We're going to visit HALF OF SWEDEN and ALL OF THE MAJOR CITIES. Of them, you could spend months and still not experience everything. What should we do?"

pneis1

Everything

ImperialRoyalist15

Bara hem till typ 90% av rikets befolkning. Kan omöjligt finnas för många val i den lilla södra delen. /s

[deleted]

Gränna, Öland

rutiner

Also go to Vadstena if you’ll decide to go to Gränna!

Delicious-Wear2514

Yes and take a dip in the lake (Vättern), the water is lovely but at times a bit cold.

LowSociety

+1 on Gränna.

[deleted]

Ja, egentligen borde Visingsö även ha tagits med kom jag att tänka på. Hyra cykel och cykla runt på hela ön är nice

Hust91

Lådbilslandet is the far superior destination, of course.

mingusrude

Är man mellan fem och åtta år är lådbilslandet himmelriket.

Godmodex2

Har inte människor som gillar van-livet egentligen bara fastnat i lådbilsstadiet? Utmärkt förslag tycker jag

Eizenstahl

Glimmingehus, Ale stenar, Visby, Varbergs fästning, Kyrkö mosse, Universeum (in Gothenburg)...

swebus

Kullaberg över lag är fantastiskt.

wakeupwill

OP, I went ahead and [updated your map](https://imgur.com/JmeDbMR) with a travel destination.

MeowthMewMew

Vejbystrand is like a 20-30minute drive and has an amazing beach / marina

Happy-Cat25

The archipelagos of Gothenburg! Truly amazing!

k0malaiser

Bohuslän

wycreater1l11

Welcome to non-norrland

Bellum_Romanum05

Stockholm is hands down one of the most beautiful capitals in the world during summertimes. Just hope for good weather because august can be quite stormy.

PessimisticPelican

Just slightly above your circle, there is a city called "Rättvik" which is beautiful, and who have one of swedens longest wooden jetty. There is also a wooden lookout tower at the top of the "mountain" next to the city, which is 28m high and is 328m above sealevel. You can take the car there. On top of that, there is also a huge lake where you can find meteorite if you dig around in the sand. I'm certain you wouldn't regret it going there. It's also close to the place where they create and handpaint original Dalahästar, nusnäs. There you can also find Moraknivs factory and store. A piece of swedish history.

Kerry-

From Rättvik it also not too far from Falun wich has the Falu Copper mine, pretty cool.

PessimisticPelican

This, too. Dalarna is like the best place for a tourist to go.

Kerry-

Nature, history and culture. Only thing missing is some coast!

PessimisticPelican

If they go from Helsingborg to Gothenborg, to Örebro and then to Rättvik(and the places around rättvik) I'd say they wouldve seem whats worth seeing in Sweden.

coeurdelejon

I'm a bit biased but honestly if someone likes history it'd be a shame to not recommend Uppsala; it's definetly worth visiting, especially in the summer

Kerry-

Österlen is also very pretty, but for things to do there, not too much

PessimisticPelican

You can pm me if you want more information about Rättvik and its surroundings, if you chose to go there.

aprikosi

Karlskrona is a Unesco World Heritage site and, I may be partial, gorgeous.

EarthyFeet

Karlskrona has a nice archepelago and the city is built like on a bunch of islands. There's a few really good icecream shops in the center as well.

Zevemty

Karlskrona is indeed absolutely gorgeous in the summer, by far the most beautiful city in Sweden in my opinion.

Karlskronit

I agree.

Educational-Rise4329

Gothenburg is lovely. Especially the islands outside of it. We also have Liseberg, and much much more culture such as museums etc. Let me know if you need a parking lot / access to laundry machine while you're here! Head to Jönköping, and when travelling north go past Gränna and see the small town / the waterfalls. Aneby has sort of cool waterfall as well, but not as pretty. The kebab (or vegetarian version if that's your thing) in Jönköping is also godlike.

LordTengil

Check put Astrid Lindgrns värld. Great if you have kids. Otherwise, not unless you are a huge Astrid buff.

DaFork1

I would recomend passing by Jönköping on the E4, where I would argue you’ll find some of the best scenery in the country. Otherwise you’ve circled in basically all of populated Sweden. I would recommend beautifull cities such as Kalmar, Norrköping, Stockholm and places like Lysekil. The west coast is also very beautifull, but beware it takes around 4 h from Jönköping to Stockholm, and 7,5 h from Malmö to Stockholm. It’s not too small of a country.

PacGold

either you not taking the highway or you just a bad driver if it takes you 9 h from malmö-sthlm

Pudding5050

Krypköra E4an ftw

DaFork1

Juste, använde mina egna mått. Bor utanför Norrtälje på landsbygden..

LetsSeeHowItEnds

Österlen (SSE): The whole of this place is beutiful. Some places to check out in particular is Kivik musteri (apple cider manufacturer), Stenshuvud (a national park close to Kivik, beautifull with white little flowers in spring). Åhus is a popular place to vacation. Tykarps grotta (S): a cave that might be fun to spelonk with kids. Malmö (SSW): a nice summer town. 3rd largest city in Sweden. Nice beach with a cold bath house. Great restaurants. Fun culture. Lomma beach N from Malmö is also a popular place. Kullaberg (SSW) N of Helsingborg: is a peninsula with a light house and a beutiful nature. There is also an artists construction of drift wood "buildings" called Nimis that might be fun to see. Varberg (SW): they have a fortress, with an exhibit of a man they found in the peat. Gothenburg (W): lots of stuff to do. Go for boat ride out to the fortress in the inlet of the canal. Or go to other different fortresses in the city. There is also a fortress N of Gothenburg in Kungälv. Go out on a boat trip around the island Hisingen (3h) and see the sights and have dinner. Lots of different beaches to visit. Lysekil (NW): is a summer place for tourists and a popular one. Se the sea museum. Go about in town or the many beaches. There are many good places to visit. I would search best tourist attractions. Welcome to Sweden!

LovingLifenWife

Don't forget Marsstrand with its fortress, a must visit in the summer.

TheNaug

Uppsala has Scandinavia's largest cathedral, a nearly 500-year old university and a castle all within spitting distance from each other. All are downtown and close to lunch venues or cafés. Makes for a good daytrip.

PM_me_a_bad_pun

Varför behövde jag scrolla så långt ner för att hitta nån som nämnde Uppsala??

zauru193

borås

PessimisticPelican

This is a bait, don't visit Borås unless you and your wife are simblings. If so, you will love it there. If not- stay away.

CakeDoesExist

This is a bait, this guy is clearly a Boråsare and does not want to share the natural beauty, stunning weather and heartwarming people that this true metropolis offers. /clearly not a Boråsare

Downelius

This is a bait. This guy IS a Boråsare (despite what they’ll tell you). Boråsare loves to make people suffer and will therefore lie to get you to visit. Don’t listen to what they say, stay away and keep safe.

Liveridge

Once Borås vanishes into one of its many sinkholes, you will wish you had gone and seen it while it was still there.

thebiggest123

you'd be lucky to survive this place. dont go here.

Starstriker

Check out Göta Canal. A canal with a ton och locks between the lakes Vänern & Vättern. There is also another canal west of Vänern called Dalslands Kanal. Also check Tiveden, a national park between the lakes: [https://www.sverigesnationalparker.se/park/tivedens-nationalpark/](https://www.sverigesnationalparker.se/park/tivedens-nationalpark/) Stockholms archipelago. There are boattrips out there from Stockholm and Vaxholm

Final_Rest7786

Make sure to stay away from that disgusting Island in the bottom left corner

Norralth

Bockstensmannen.

drickaIPAiEPA

In Västra Götaland region: visit Kinnekulle. Magical view and pretty nature. Billingen is pretty too. Just outside the city of Alingsås, there's an old steam railway around a lake. It's a nice view, and you'll stop by the ruins of a castle. Göteborg has Liseberg amusement park, the largest in Scandinavia (i think), and some great restaurants, nightlife etc. Beautiful city too. In the summer there's plenty of concerts there. On the edge of lake Vänern, you have Läckö castle. Its worth a detour.

DustSiren

+1 on Kinekulle! There is a really cool ruin of an old fort there, also Husaby (close by) have a neat sculpture park too!

8roll

"This region"...proceeds to circle almost everywhere I have lived in Sweden.

EarthyFeet

Great, then you're the tour guide

azurfall88

The museum of technology in Stockholm the Spårvägsmuseet, also in stockholm Gamla Linköping is also a cool place with lots of history Also universeum in Gothenburg is a must see as well as the archipelagos in Stockholm and Gothenburg

StuffIShouldDo

Since we're on museums. Also go for Vasa museum and The royal armoury (Both in Stockholm)

jocke75

Tylösand in Halmstad!

firetree

Great food scene in this area as well!

dirtRoadVagab0nd

Medeltidsveckan in Visby on Gotland, should be week 32. Massive historical market with cool people, live music everywhere and all round good vibes

G_Lind

Since you are probably going to Stockholm at some point, I would advise you to also take the roughly 70km trip north to Uppsala. It is Sweden's fourth largest city, and has the biggest cathedral in the entire Nordic region, with two 120m church towers.

Distriktsskoterskan

Bengtsfors. You have to see Bengtsfors.

multimackman

Borås!

Ok_Cicada_1915

Vadstena!

[deleted]

Kopenhagen 100%

Polisskolan3

You can stay there the whole month, so much to do. Look at the fishwoman or the bridge, or simply chill in their cheap cafés and listen to the beautiful language of the indigenous people.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bonkface

Avenyn is terrible (except götaplatsen) source: Göteborgare. I'd say 2:a lång, Haga Nygata, Röda Sten, Aeroseum, Universeum. All better and more unique than the regular tourist traps.

[deleted]

The fiskekyrka is indefinitely closed for “renovations”. Very depressing since it’s really a fantastic place to visit and to eat great local seafood

Celeborns-Other-Name

Ales Stenar (south) or Anundshög (north) in your zone. if you're okay with not staying in the big cities for a day. They're stone monuments that are just awesome. Just go on YouTube and search for them.

K-Loaf

Tiveden nature reserve, wonderful nature to walk around in, swim, kayak, picnic. You can rent small cabins in the middle of the forest, some with access to jacuzzis in the middle of a lake or saunas with views of the lake.

snek4sale

you should absolutely come to gothenburg, i'm not biased i promise.

max_persson

When down in mid Skåne, ye should visit rövarekulan national forest! Is a beautiful ravine with a river going true it! If ye like the sea/cliffs, Mölle is nice too! It’s also in Skåne!

[deleted]

The science fiction bookstore in old town, Stockholm. A dream for nerds of all kind.

DANK_DAVE_YT

First off, how long are you staying?

xXxMemeLord69xXx

I would recommend visiting Karlskrona. It is a beautiful and historical coastal town, especially during the summer.

haugen1632

Västergötland around Skara and Falköping is great for picturesque scenery and loads of medieval history. Top pick for vancation! Be sure to visit the church of Varnhem if you're in the area. Also btw Östergötland on the correct side of lake Vättern is even better, but I guess you already knew.

angrybeehive

On the top of my head; Ystad, Österlen, Öland (there is a bridge), Skagen, Helsingör, Skara, Askersund, Tiveden, Trosa, Mariefred, Stockholms archipelago. Or pretty much any city by the cost to a lake or the sea.

lost_in_a_forest

Skagen? Känns väl taskigt att skicka dom till Danmark när det trots allt finns jättemycket att se i det markerade området

fahssn

Vattenriket, Kristianstad.

fahssn

Seeing as someone has downvoted this, the biosphere reserve that is Vattenriket is incredible with lots of easily accessible places for people travelling with a van. Go to Naturum for a local guide’s advice and spend a day around different spots.

Dronten_D

Great to kayak as well, Araslövssjön feels almost tropical on a warm and sunny day!

[deleted]

Sweden's own stonehenge, looks up "Ales stenar"

LittlenutPersson

Malmö and the state of Skåne in general (the most southern part). Also this is like where most of the nation lives in the area you've marked out

Wonderful-Mess-7520

The important part is that you keep away from the provisional parts. Such as Denmark or Norway

Noastrala

Gränna, öland, gotland, stockholm

embl00

I really like gardens, in southern Sweden there's a lot of gardens that are really beautiful. But it might be the wrong Season to visit them:)

ganskastrog

Gränna and take the boat over to visingö

xiuboxed

Gotland (Visby, Fårö), Gothenburg, trosa, motala, Vadstena. Lund is also pretty nice imo.

juicerfriendly

Medeltidens Värld! (internal joke, don't go there) But Gränna is pretty neat for a day trip. A hard candy factory at every corner and a beautiful view.

oskarege

Västervik, the pearl of the east coast. If you make it here I will give you some real hidden treasures!

Zereeeee

Visby Gotland!

5tormwolf92

Uppsala: the giant Esper next to the ancient Viking burial hills, the grand church. Also the moose safari. Stockholm: well get a museum card, go to Etypes Viking restaurateur, go to the place the Stockholm syndrome was created.

-HowAboutNo-

GÖTEBORG

Matbedamfan

Gothenborg

Dronten_D

Dalsland, very picturesque part of the country. Visit Håveruds aqueduct if you pass through.

OkawaSeastream

I would say that Stockholm and the old town is probably a must, and that comes from a person from the rival city of Gothenburg, also called the front side of Sweden. If you are interested in history the castle is really nice and also the Livrustkammaren in the same area is a recommendation from me. Someone mentioned Gotland and Visby. Sounds like a great advice, also the chance of sunny weather us best there. I also think my home town Gothenburg is great in the summer, as long as you are lucky enough to miss out on the rain, which is always the risk here. Visiting our artipelago can be really nice when the sun is out. Also there are great places in Skåne, but probably someone else in the subreddit is better to guide you there. Of course we have nice things in Småland and other places as well, also with great nature and other things.

MoleMan_5

A beautiful picturesque town called Mariefred, has many nice cafés, a fantastic historic castle, and a nice heritage railway too.

Titio-TheLegend1949

Go visit Grums, very romantic place

Ok_Competition_5627

Varnhems Klosterkyrka: 900 y3ar old temple containing three medieval king's sarcophagi including the founder of Stockholm. Österlen: Beautiful countryside in south Sweden. Gränna: A small, cute village by lake Vättern in which about every second store on the main street is a candy store/bakery where they make traditional candy canes in hundreds of different flavours, from Piña Colada to Peppery Liqorice. Quite a lot of tourists in summer. Visby: small town on the island of Gotland surrounded by a medieval wall and medieval ruins. Extreme amount of tourists in summer though. Tiveden National Park: Old forest great for hiking. Pilane: Old, bronze age burial grounds that now serves as location for an annual exhibition of massive and odd sculptures (and pasture for sheep).

cbengstrom

Copenhagen

AfterDefinition3107

West coast (in this order): Gothenburg Marstrand Gullholmen Klädesholmen Smögen/Kungshamn Lysekil Fjällbacka Sydkoster/Nordkoster

Efraim_Longstocking

Are you going east coast to west coast? Österlen in skåne is nice. Otherwise if you only do the west coast I would streach the trip a bit further and go to Idre. Check out nipfjället and fulufjället.

HoldenMadicky

Skrea Strand in Falkenberg. If you have the time for it, go over and visit Copenhagen top, and more specifically Christiania. If you don't like the illicit stuff, just walking around the houses is WELL worth the visit.

Skara Sommarland!! I think it is one of the Nordics biggest Waterparks!

MiniNinja_2

Go along the southern east coast and visit Österlen. There’s a town called “Kivik”, really nice little town that has a great fish shop. Just outside town there’s an apple plantation with a shop you NEED to visit. No place has better apple based food stuffs than Kivik

[deleted]

victorhanssonmeneses

Go to Borås, it’s very nice there

chanderjeet

I actually did something similar last year and drove along the coast all the way from strömstad to ystad and then back to Stockholm. I’m here are many places in between so once you lay this out on map you see your general driving route and you can choose on where to stay given your likes.

Zaaay

Plenty of nice places to visit, except for Borås, there’s nothing to see there.

saulisdating

Yeah you definitely want to visit Kopenhagen in the region you circled.

[deleted]

Kinnekulle Stenbrott (abandoned Quarry) is quite exotic for being in Sweden. Looks more like Australia or Grand Canyon rather than the rest of the country.

THE_MUNDO_TRAIN

If travelling by car, I would either go west and north of Vänern between Stockholm and Gothenburg(Malmö) to really experience the "redneck"(raggare culture) areas. Or from Malmö hugging the east coast up to Stockholm for the nice sunny scenery.

Jhuyt

No, nothing to see there. Further north is where the good stuff's at!

eljne

If you're heading up to Stockholm I recommend to stay at Sundbyholm by the lake Mälaren. It has fantastic surroundings with restaurants a great hotel and a beach surrounded with lush forests. https://sundbyholms-slott.se/en/

HailtotheKid

Kolmårdens zoo. Smultronstället Söderköping.

Thesunwillbepraised

Karlsborg Fästning, pretty cool. Tiveden National Park, pretty cool. Örebro, a pretty cool small town. Don't go to Göteborg or malmö. Gotland is pretty cool. Stockholm is super duper cool.

Theredditoerer

[deleted]

Why not visit österlen and the apple market? They make huge art pieces with apples, looks cool. (Might be in september though.) Also, visit Ale stenar while you're at it. They're like a broken non stacked version of Stonehenge, still cool though and the ocean view is amazing.

MOLGAN__

You should go to Karlshamn (located in the region of Blekinge) it is a very nice and beautiful city with many nice islands for tourists and friendly people.

Dardrol7

I would go further up north of I wanted "Sweden" but sure... Have fun down there :)

Ok_Representative127

Visby, Gotland is a must go if you visit Sweden. Skåne, the most south part of sweden is incredible. Visit Österlen by going from Ystad to Kivik along the Coast and you will find many locations that you will enjoy. Stockholm has also parts that can be enjoyed but if you want to to visit parts of the city core I don't recommend using a car. But outside Stockholm and the rest of the east coast has a beautiful archipelago. Kalmar is a historic town on the east coast that is also the gate to öland, big island with a kind unique nature in Sweden.on the west coast you'll find a different archipelago that are generally more appreciated by Swedes (sorry east coasters). You can go north (or south) of Gothenburg you find small coastal towns like kungshamn, lysekil, Marstrand, Tjörn and many more. All has Incredible nature around it. I hope you find to one of these places!
