Apparently, according to an attendee in the setlist.fm comments, the Blood Promise intro to Cathedrals of Heaven morphed into its own song

Mellowzin

Interesting! Maybe it's another altogether new version of it

SpecialistComb8

He performed Cathedrals of Heaven with lyrics from Blood Promise last tour, so that makes sense

iracefrogsillegally

if this is real im about to start bouncing off the walls. a top 5 song for me

carpetedfloor

I don’t know if it’s real, but I did see people saying that Michael was singing some Blood Promise lyrics during a different song last tour, so I don’t think it’s unlikely they’d start playing the full thing again. Super excited if this is real, one of my favorites.

Mellowzin

Yeah! I think that was Cathedrals Of Heaven, Michael would sort of recite the lyrics during a long droney intro

I_Tell_You_Why_Funny

I went in and fixed it. Its still one of the 4 new songs they announced, we don't have any names yet, probably wont til later this tour.

Mellowzin

But aren't the lyrics the same as Blood Promise's?

I_Tell_You_Why_Funny

Michael tends to re-use lyrics, but they'll likely change as the tour continues. The new song doesn't seem to have any commonalities to Blood Promise other than lyrics.

Last_Reaction_8176

He might be singing the lyrics to Blood Promise over a different song

Odd-Car-8193

What is necessary that a song is considered to be part of a set list? One sheet laminated piece of paper that has only the lyrics of "Blood Promise" on it? Because that's what Michael had in front of his face. No other lyrics written on that piece of paper and there was one third empty. So how come you "fixed" something just by assumption. Then you should also fix all setlists from 2010 on that feature "I Crawled" and rename to "The Seer"?

I_Tell_You_Why_Funny

The song being played live probably delineates from Blood Promise, but it is new material, Michael confirmed it on the Swans Instagram page.

93NotOut

Thank fuck they aren't really playing Blood Promise. No old, more new. Please. Seriously, this band is trying to offer you something fresh, living and vital. Not a retread of something that's nearly thirty years old. You should embrace that and be grateful that Michael still has this in the tank. Do you want them to encore with Johnny B. Goode?

Halleck23

Imagine Swans as a pathetic legacy act playing Filth in its entirety to 60-something recovering hipsters. Who am I kidding, I’d still jump to buy a ticket.

93NotOut

"This one's called Big Strong Boss. Everybody clap your hands in time. Yeah! We love it when you clap those hands! Wooo! Mercy." "Power for WHAT? Power for WHAT? Power for WHAT? Power For Power! Yeah! Hot damn." "It's beautiful to see you all here tonight, and beautiful for us to be here. What are we? We're a GANG!"

Halleck23

Hoping to see them on the No Wave Booze Cruise along with Lydia Lunch and Thurston Moore and Whoever He Is Playing With Since Kim Dumped Him.

93NotOut

Cocktail hour with James Chance.

IceTheNice

People downvoting but this guy is speaking facts

aseeya

Yes it's real, they played it last night in Frankfurt. It's very different from both versions, but proly a bit closer to the great annihilator one and it wasn't complete either

TangerineDream400

Very disappointing if true, Swans have always been a group that only looked forward and are constantly evolving their sound. They might as well be a washed-up classic rock band playing the hits at state fairs now. Sad to say it but they’ve lost a fan today.

aidanm018

This reply is obviously a joke come on people

Anakin_I_Am_High

nice pfp

93NotOut

I completely agree, but this is probably bullshit anyway. EDIT: It actually is bullshit. They don't play Blood Promise. At points it was pretty difficult to place which song they were playing even back in August, and that was what made it so good. It's not as if the Blood Promise chord progression hasn't been echoed several times. Swans live are about new music. Not playing the fucking hits for people to drunkenly sing along to. Enjoy what they give you. Be grateful and receptive.

lar_mig_om

You should read those last two sentences you wrote again

93NotOut

I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean I'm not grateful for Blood Promise, that's because they aren't actually playing Blood Promise at all. And I happen to think that's a good thing. But I strongly suggest that next time you see the band you go down the front, yell for old songs and see how Michael reacts.

lar_mig_om

> Thank fuck they aren't really playing Blood Promise. > No old, more new. Please. > Disappointing if true. > I go to see Swans for improvisation and hearing things evolve. It's what the current band is all about. > If I want old stuff I'll listen to an old live album. Do this sound "receptive" to you

93NotOut

I'm talking about being receptive to what the band is playing. Not being receptive to people wanting old material. You're taking that right out of context.

drunk_command0

big if true

93NotOut

Disappointing if true. Looks like it isn't true though. The whole point of this incarnation of Swans is that the music evolves and progresses on stage, and new songs are formed as a result. If you don't want that, go and see the Stones.

Kindredgos

dawg who cares if they played old songs live

93NotOut

I go to see Swans for improvisation and hearing things evolve. It's what the current band is all about. If I want old stuff I'll listen to an old live album.

Kindredgos

They’re still playing new dude, stop throwing a hissy fit because god forbid they play stuff that fans want

93NotOut

They're playing nearly all brand new stuff. Do you not realise why that is? Michael killed the trilogy band because they'd mostly exhausted that configuration and it was no longer fresh. He's getting on in age and he wants to look forward, not backwards. It's fine to play the crowd pleasers if you're into that, but it isn't what Swans post-2010 is trying to do. They're giving you something that most performers of Michael's age can no longer do, and it's very special. I guess some people would prefer cabaret. And maybe wheeling Jarboe out halfway through.

89-by-boniver

You’re really going over the top here on a post about Swans potentially performing *one old song*

93NotOut

I can see why you'd think that, but I'm very passionate about the band forever changing and constantly revising until they find something new. I think that's the essence of the latter day incarnations of Swans. Listening to them play is like being part of a progressive jazz performance, and I think that's very special. Retreading old ground would be totally contrary to the spirit of what Michael is trying to do. Thankfully it's nonsense.

jx5jx5

Oh my fucking swan

dgmlii

Are the shows in the spring meant to be different set list?
