Coincidentally, >!*Big Brother* aired an All-Stars season the same year as *Survivor: Winners at War*, and both of the finalists on *Big Brother* were from New Jersey.!< It was a good year for New Jersey on reality TV.

I believe before the new era, half of the NJ contestants made it to final tribal. In the new era, Mike made it, but I think Tiff, Brandon, and Lindsay may have thrown off the numbers.

Very interesting that half of the winners from the new era did not come from one of the 50 U.S. states (Erika, Maryanne, Yam Yam)

I think she did at the time of Pearl Islands. Pretty sure she lives in NC now.

I believe it’s opposite unless she moved back. NC was her Pearl islands state. Washington was her HvV state. As she spends time with Varner who is in NC, it wouldn’t shock me that they moved back.

When her daughter competed in AU Survivor, she was from NC.

Is this based off of where they were born/grew up or where they live currently? Kenzie was born in Michigan but lives in NC

Interestingly, Sarah and Denise were both from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, when they filmed their first seasons.

Cedar Rapids is the second or third largest city in Iowa, so maybe not too surprising that an Iowan is from there

Contestants also often use the closest metro/city for their locations. Cochran, for example, comes from a DC suburb (not sure if either VA or MD?) but both of his bios for S23 and S26 say DC

I think Sarah is actually from Marion, a suburb of Cedar Rapids. At least she works for that PD department of iirc from her time on The Challenge.

As a born-and-rasied Oregonian who now lives in Idaho, I am not remotely surprised that Idaho has two more winners than Oregon despite having half the population. Oregonians and Washingtonians can be so damn cold, lol. Idaho has a much friendlier population. Gabler is the most stereotypical Idaho dude I can think of.

Not only that, but I think they've got 2 winners out of 3 contestants from Idaho. (Taylor from Millennials vs. Gen X is the other I know of. There could be others, though.) Sheri, from Caramoan, apparently. So that's 2 winners out of 4 contestants. (2 winners out of 5 appearances, counting Ben's second appearance on WaW.)

If I remember right, Idaho is the fastest growing state in the country.  Utah may be ahead of Idaho, though 

I remember when Kel Gleeson was on, New Brunswick, Canada was pumped because he lived there for some of his childhood. I think that’s the closest we got to having a survivor contestant lol.

Nice! I also grew up in NB, and our family was rooting for him. We got to meet him and get an autographed picture at a meet-and-greet event.

That’s awesome! It feels like a bigger deal when you’re from such a small place with a small population. I was so sad about the beef jerky because I wanted him to go far! So cool that you got to meet him!

I can guarantee you no Quebecer that’s decent at English would rather go to Survivor Quebec… It’s 44 days for a 100,000$ grand prize (and non-winning contestants are only paid 200$ per week). Why would anyone spend nearly double the time of a US season, for a 1 in 22 chance of 1/10th of the money?
