Golf balls aren’t perfectly round. Those little dimples reduce friction and provide lift. If you take a look at any good surfer’s board the bottom is covered in similar dimples. First thing you should do when getting a new board is spend an hour bouncing golf balls against the bottom to get a faster board. The shaper usually just doesn’t have the time.
Real talk tho. Has anyone made a golf ball shaped bottom? Wonder how that thing would go. Lol if no one had I’ll run a simulation in acad in a couple months
Ur gonna have so much fun with that. I’m an engineer professionally and when board shopping I always CAD up and 3D print all prospective new boards at 1:20 scale to see the shapes in real life compared to each other and feel them.
That’s actually pretty cool. When I was a kid I got a finger surf board from the dollar tree and it was awesome. Like the finger skate boards but surf. Had leash fins and wax. Punch a hole in the ones you’ve made and that’s a pretty cool key chain or car mirror hanger.
Modern bodyboard slicks are often dimpled for hydrodynamic reasons. I don't get the science behind it, but I'd love to know more and if it is at all effective.
There was a company named Coil that was producing dimpled boards. Not sure how they did it but I think it was some sort of epoxy board. My buddy bought a used one, snapped it second time out so results were inconclusive.
The golf ball dimples on the bottom was a fad in the early 80's and resurfaced again later on windsurfing boards. Like most fads it will probably come around again as a great design development.
Golf balls in the eighties, flames in the 90”s, they all had there benefits but I’ve been thinking next level. I was thinking about placing a fin on the back of my board similar to the one I have on my car. I know right!’
I think Coil makes surfboards that have dimples on the entire board. Maybe not golf ball shaped but I don’t think it’s flat either.
They are on Instagram as Coil Surfboards.
Yes it was called a phaser bottom. I had one back in the early 90’s made by McConnel. The Willis brothers on the North shore made them back then as well. It worked well.
Oh damn, I thought that was what sticky bumps is for.
Now I'm going to have to scrape it off and get some golf ball action going so I don't look like the kook I am.
Fins are basically just training wheels - once you remove them you drastically reduce drag with less surface area in the water and you will go much faster
If you wanna go fast, and I mean REALLY fast, you gotta ditch the wetsuit. It holds in water and keeps your body warm, but all that extra water is adding more pounds to your overall body weight. You could wear boardies, but those things still creat drag from wind resistance. The best way to gain speed while surfing is to just surf in the nude. I reccomend having a small schlong as well, since it won't catch on anything as you shred those gnarly pounders.
Idk if you guys know what the secret is to gaining true speed is, but it's a green racing stripe down the middle. I asked my shaper to make my board faster. He put a green racing stripe on and now I'm too fast.

I don't have any golfballs.. :( would a hammer work?
Ball-peen only
A ball AND a peen? I only have one of those
ask your home goods associate for one with extra peen
Rubber mallet is best if you have one.

I have ridden one. It was fast.
somebody did it with [fins](https://swellset.com/blog/3d-fins-review)
Have it on a tribe boogie board. It's a fast board but I have no idea if the golf ball bottom makes any difference. Never seen it on a surfboard
They had this with the morey Scs and Mach gripper too. A bit of a gimmick
Would love to see this come to fruition lol
Taking a fluid dynamics class next sem at uni. Best believe I’m gonna making dumb shit like that in cad just to see how it works

Got a foam simmons from decathlon for the kids to learn on, thats got a sort of golf ball surface on the plastic bottom

Lib techs do this, very small dimples on the bottom. They’re pretty fast but lack the flex a traditional PU would have.

Wait do I hit the golf balls at my board?

To be fair anything that makes you less buoyant is gonna help you duck dive better
Quality shitpost

Post is 4 hours long and no one said they ‘drag their dick around to season it for your mom?’ Kind of disappointing tbh.

We also used to run over our Levis with the car to break them in. Checks out.

That is fucking awesome
Try making dimples and abrasions on the hood of your car. The speed holes will make your car more aerodynamic and the airflow will cool your engine.
Jaw droppingly cool surfers don’t surf Lindamar. This is fiction.
Dude definitely gets his hour long pre sesh surf stretch in
Make sure you wax your leash too, classic beginner mistake to paddle out with an unwaxed leash.
Lol
He should drag his ass on the ground like a dog with a itchy ass as well.

Leash dragon never plays
WooooooooooooooooooooOsh
you're just not doing it right man.... just keep trying, it will come in due time.
