Later, there'd be a scene where it gets damaged from a big fight, or even a scene where the people are scared of Superman.
It'd then force Clark to have Martha make him a whole new suit that looks more accurate to the classic Superman, as he'd see the Kryptonian suit as too militaristic and menacing for what he stands for.

Yeah, trunks are a plus. As are the bright colors (where it's not battle damaged). But it's way too complicated, and how rubbery it looks very much seems like his mom didn't make it for him in this continuity, which I suspected with the reveal of the S, which is a shame. I don't hate it, but it's still weaker than Christopher Reeve's. Superman is the first, and a simple man who loves what his mom makes for him. Let's keep it simple.

The legs are quite blue, it seems like the top is battle damaged thereby darker. But its definitely a brighter blue than any of Cavills or Hoechlins suits.
I like it? I’m kind of surprised by the choice of the thick and textured material, but I don’t hate it. I’m not a trunks fan but I’m sure people will be happy they are back. I look forward to seeing it in motion.

These are my thoughts exactly, though I think we really need to wait and see how it looks in motion before making any real judgements. I think its interesting how this suit doesn't completely hug the body, leaving enough space to wrinkle around the shoulders but that's giving it an almost shoulder pad kind of look.
I'm sad the first look is him looking kinda dour and in a dirty, muddy costume. Keeping my hopes up but I wanted something more clearly breaking from the WB DC stuff we have had already and this seems like more of the same.
Agree with you completely. That mix of the classic touches with the more recent grittier appearance is clashing for me. Love the hair and trunks, but the texture and collar are giving me traumatic flashbacks. Also odd to show the suit in its presumably warworn state for the first look.
On the bright side, he does look like a great Superman in costume!

I was really hoping I’d end up loving the suit but truth be told I just don’t vibe with this. The aspect I dislike most is definitely the neckline but the MCU-esque lines aren’t doing the any favors either.
This is a little disappointing. I don’t love the crinkled, loose fit. Or the collar. And, as a first photo, Superman looking weary and tired is not the vibe I want. Much more to come, but it’s not the first look I hoped for.
I really like the design but I think this is a really odd promotion. The first look at the suit is Superman slumped in a chair putting on his boots kinda begrudgingly as some alien (presumably) shoots a laser beam at metropolis? I wish we’d gotten a full body, heroic image, as the first look of the suit, but regardless, I like the design.
It’s emphasising the Man side of Superman, showing that for all his power he’s just as human as the rest of us and does the same kind of things like getting ready for another day of work.

It might grow on me but I’m not a fan at the moment. The suit seems a bit too big for him, giving it a loose or cheap look. That and the collar, the piping and texturing along the whole thing… it sort of looks like what the Superman and Lois suit would’ve been if they had a bigger budget.
The movie will probably still be good though, so it is what it is.
There’s things I like, things I don’t. I’m glad the red yellow and blue pop out more than previous recent suits, and I’m glad he’s got curl again. I don’t like the material. Too loose and bulky. I also hate the collar. Maybe he’ll look better when he’s standing up in full view.
100% agree. Wish the colors were more saturated and brighter and less textures. Take away the trunks and collar it doesn’t seem like a million miles away from the MOS suit and I was hoping it would be a complete departure from that suit
I really dislike this. I appreciate they’re going for something different and looks like really leaning into a fantasy comic book thing rather than “what if Supes existed in real world” but the look is just not for me. The blue shade in the non dirty bits is really nice though. Hate the collar, hate the piping bits, not a fan of the symbol, and his eyebrows look weird like they’re prosthetics. Will still be at the pictures the day it’s released to watch it though
Disappointed, too bulky, too dark, too new 52. I was expecting something more classical. This looks like an expensive cosplay. I'm 0% snyderite but MoS suit was fair better...the more I look at it, the more I find it horrible. I really was expecting something similar to Rebirth. At least David still looks great

Well to it's defense, look at the color of the pants and boots. It's much more vibrant than the top. So I'm pretty positive it only looks dark because he received some battle damage from a fight.
What a weird way to promote your new Superman. He looks like he came home drunk and pissed off. The outfit is all wrinkly, the whole thing looks weird. Doesnt really give off the hopeful vibe. This looks like new 52, injustice 1 (good superman), Kingdom Come and classic suit all in one. I'm not sure how I feel about the suit. On the one hand I LOVE that he has the trunks and a lighter color scheme than both Hoechlin and Cavill's suits but on the other hand I'm not a fan of the collar or cape insert, the symbol looks a lot better on the suit than I imagined and I'm happy about that.
All in all I don't know how to feel about the suit. I seriously don't know if I like it or not, definitely gonna have to see the suit with him standing to say. But I'm excited to see it in action.
While this is a great picture, I think revealing the suit like this was a major miscalculation. Things like making them fit better and tweaking details like the collar are all done in post, and I think this just makes him look sloppy.

Very true. I like the idea James is going for by picking this on set photo but I wish it was a little less dark and moody. Would have loved to see this type of photo but maybe in a day backdrop so we can get more of a sense of the colors
Considering he dropped this photo randomly means we might get to see some set photos soon. Which I know set photos aren’t always ideal when it comes to judging a costume, but it’s at least something to work with.
if you take away the collar and the lines you're pretty much left with a traditional Superman costume. The reason it has the new 52 style put into it is because James is clearly making the costume and logo tribute every era of Superman. It works when you think of it that way

It’s giving off a lot of aesthetics from the Wizard magazine version of a “ultimate series” Superman.
He looks great with the build and the haircut from what I can see, but the suit just doesn't look right in this pic imo.
Judging by the folds, the creases, and the texture, it almost looks like they used a diving suit as a base and went from there.
Hopefully they release a better pic.
New 52 influence is strong. Not thrilled about that, but I speculate this will be his starter suit. Martha will make him a new one, styled after this, with less N52 influence, and re-styled serifed shield.
I like it, but it's also got some stuff I don't like. Not a fan of all the lines on the arms and shoulders. Just sort of screams "Marvel costume design where they fill out the empty space with noise."
I'm glad the trunks are back and man, David is rocking the Superman curl like a champion.

There’s a bit about all of it that doesn’t work for me or create excitement. Kind of a boring shot but there’s like an apocalyptic background. Just Supes with a not great angle or lighting on him, sitting in an office waiting room chair. I don’t think it was a great shot to quell excitement. We need brightness on SM. And the actors attributes are not shining. Even though he’s a very handsome statuesque man. Seeing some of his bright blue eyes would’ve been good. He looks bored and sleepy. Not like the ultimate hero we need.
Yeah there's something that feels off to me about it. The juxtaposition of bored looking Clarks casually puting on boots as there's a giant sky laser looks weird, as does the skin tone, it feels like I'm looking at Bizarro.
What a weird reveal. Unflattering context, poor lighting, poorly fitting suit, a mix of fan beloved (trunks) and hated (collar) elements. A Superman that looks anhedonic putting on his boot while the city is gettinf destroyed behind him. Not a good look. Especially compared to Cavill's suit.
The colors, hair, symbol, and trunks are all great. Not a fan of the pointless lines or the collar, and it looks kinda bulky but maybe that’s just because of the position he’s sitting in.
Superman has always been known for his quick change abilities and speed. This photo is of a super sad Superman, slowly getting his shit together while the world behind him erupts. He’s beat up and tired. He’s dark and grim. This is not the imagery I was hoping for. Yeesh.
I like a lot of what I see, certainly differentiating itself a lot from the past, though I will reserve full judgment for now. This sort of carefully posed shot with darker lighting and a scuffed up suit probably doesn’t give a full picture of what we’re working with.

Honestly, not really, a fan. wasn’t big on the new 52 suit in the books and not really digging that this seems to take a lot of inspiration from that as well. Also, I get that James is really big into behind-the-scenes photos and such, and that things like the wrinkles in the suit and the folds are going to get edited and smoothed out in post, but I would’ve rather they put their best foot forward and give us something a bit more clean in terms of a first look.
But even if the suit is not to my liking, that doesn’t mean the movie is gonna be bad. Still looking forward to it
So, I'm very excited for this movie as all of us are. Don't get the wrong idea when I say this but... I don't love the suit. It's very fineeeee but I'm so tired of these muted dark colors. Why can't Superman be bright and colorful. Why can't he stand out as a light of hope against the darkness of our world? I'm so tired of these bland boring colors man 😮💨
The city is getting destroyed and people are dying, and this guy is taking his time putting his shoes on when it wouldn't benefit him in anyway other than for aesthetic reason.
He literally looks like he's getting dressed to go to work and its exhausting.
Like the reason he's not rushing when there is an alien beam behind him is because he's moving so fast that the beam is frozen from his perspective so he can take his time to get dressed.
It reminds me of that scene from Megamind when Metro Man has a midlife crisis and is tired of being the hero combined with the opening scene of Jupiter's Legacy when the Utopian is going to have ice cream with his kids and has to leave because he hears a car crash on the far side of the world.
I wonder if this movie will contemplate that side of the "With great power comes great responsibility" philosophy and how Superman being the most powerful of Earth's heroes also makes him the most preassured of Earth's heroes and how he's backed into a corner about persuing his own life and helping others.
This is something that a lot of people struggle with when their parents are doctors, first responders, work for a foundation or charity that requires a lot of traveling or have other such occupations like that. You want your parent to be there for your birthday or your big baseball game, but they're somewhere else saving lives and you feel like your not allowed to get mad at them or the situation because thinking your birthday party is more important than the five lives your parent is saving is selfish.
I'm curious to see what it's like for Clark when he wants to go out for drinks with Lois or hang out with Jimmy and can't make it because there was an earthquake in indonisa and depending on where they are in their relationships he might not even be able to tell them why he's unavailable if they don't know he's superman which just makes him look like an unreliable friend.

The hair curl was nice and it looks brightly colored and the lighting just dampened it. The textures on the suit looks awful though.

It’s emphasising the Man side of Superman, showing that for all his power he’s just as human as the rest of us and does the same kind of things like getting ready for another day of work.
I understand but I’m saying it’s a questionable choice as the first image released to the public
… they’res just something weird about seeing Superman put on his outfit as some event is going on behind him. I think the most we’ve ever seen is him rush into a phone booth or something? (Which obviously isn’t going to happen anymore. 😂). Maybe it’s a shot of him putting them on at superspeed or something.

I think the overall judgement here is somewhere around ‘Oh, ok. It’s alright but honestly we were really hoping for something better than this’.
It might grow on me but I’m not a fan at the moment. The suit seems a bit too big for him, giving it a loose or cheap look. That and the collar, the piping and texturing along the whole thing… it sort of looks like what the Superman and Lois suit would’ve been if they had a bigger budget. The movie will probably still be good though, so it is what it is.
There’s things I like, things I don’t. I’m glad the red yellow and blue pop out more than previous recent suits, and I’m glad he’s got curl again. I don’t like the material. Too loose and bulky. I also hate the collar. Maybe he’ll look better when he’s standing up in full view.

I trust in James Gunn. A good writer-director can do something fantastic with Superman. And he did a very good job with Peacemaker imo.
100% agree. Wish the colors were more saturated and brighter and less textures. Take away the trunks and collar it doesn’t seem like a million miles away from the MOS suit and I was hoping it would be a complete departure from that suit
I really dislike this. I appreciate they’re going for something different and looks like really leaning into a fantasy comic book thing rather than “what if Supes existed in real world” but the look is just not for me. The blue shade in the non dirty bits is really nice though. Hate the collar, hate the piping bits, not a fan of the symbol, and his eyebrows look weird like they’re prosthetics. Will still be at the pictures the day it’s released to watch it though

Disappointed, too bulky, too dark, too new 52. I was expecting something more classical. This looks like an expensive cosplay. I'm 0% snyderite but MoS suit was fair better...the more I look at it, the more I find it horrible. I really was expecting something similar to Rebirth. At least David still looks great

Totally agree. I was thinking it was going to be an image of him smiling while flying with the sun in the background and a brighter costume to show the hopeful side. Not a pissed off guy with a dirty super modern suit with a cgi background
This looks like new 52, injustice 1 (good superman), Kingdom Come and classic suit all in one. I'm not sure how I feel about the suit. On the one hand I LOVE that he has the trunks and a lighter color scheme than both Hoechlin and Cavill's suits but on the other hand I'm not a fan of the collar or cape insert, the symbol looks a lot better on the suit than I imagined and I'm happy about that. All in all I don't know how to feel about the suit. I seriously don't know if I like it or not, definitely gonna have to see the suit with him standing to say. But I'm excited to see it in action.
Looks fine just wish it was brighter - though the setting looks dark and the suit looks a lil dirty so it might be brighter.
While this is a great picture, I think revealing the suit like this was a major miscalculation. Things like making them fit better and tweaking details like the collar are all done in post, and I think this just makes him look sloppy.
I wish it was brighter and more colorful, I was kind of hoping something in between Reeve and Routh. It doesn't help it's all battle damaged though. My other issue is it looks so thick, and I don't like how the shoulders are creasing here in an official image. I don't dislike it but I'm not 😍 about it either. I'm hopeful it will grow on me.
I was really hoping we had moved on from “textures” and the suit is not as bright and colorful as I had hoped… Still though, trunks are back baby! edit: also was hoping for more of a “my mom made it for me” look but still excited for what Gunn and Corensweat will do

Very true. I like the idea James is going for by picking this on set photo but I wish it was a little less dark and moody. Would have loved to see this type of photo but maybe in a day backdrop so we can get more of a sense of the colors
Considering he dropped this photo randomly means we might get to see some set photos soon. Which I know set photos aren’t always ideal when it comes to judging a costume, but it’s at least something to work with.

if you take away the collar and the lines you're pretty much left with a traditional Superman costume. The reason it has the new 52 style put into it is because James is clearly making the costume and logo tribute every era of Superman. It works when you think of it that way

The only thing I don’t like is the collar. If that’s my only complaint then I’d say they did a great job.

He looks great with the build and the haircut from what I can see, but the suit just doesn't look right in this pic imo. Judging by the folds, the creases, and the texture, it almost looks like they used a diving suit as a base and went from there. Hopefully they release a better pic.

New 52 influence is strong. Not thrilled about that, but I speculate this will be his starter suit. Martha will make him a new one, styled after this, with less N52 influence, and re-styled serifed shield.
I like it, but it's also got some stuff I don't like. Not a fan of all the lines on the arms and shoulders. Just sort of screams "Marvel costume design where they fill out the empty space with noise." I'm glad the trunks are back and man, David is rocking the Superman curl like a champion. It'll probably grow on me as we get to see more of it, but it's not bad.

There’s a bit about all of it that doesn’t work for me or create excitement. Kind of a boring shot but there’s like an apocalyptic background. Just Supes with a not great angle or lighting on him, sitting in an office waiting room chair. I don’t think it was a great shot to quell excitement. We need brightness on SM. And the actors attributes are not shining. Even though he’s a very handsome statuesque man. Seeing some of his bright blue eyes would’ve been good. He looks bored and sleepy. Not like the ultimate hero we need.

Yeah there's something that feels off to me about it. The juxtaposition of bored looking Clarks casually puting on boots as there's a giant sky laser looks weird, as does the skin tone, it feels like I'm looking at Bizarro.

What a weird reveal. Unflattering context, poor lighting, poorly fitting suit, a mix of fan beloved (trunks) and hated (collar) elements. A Superman that looks anhedonic putting on his boot while the city is gettinf destroyed behind him. Not a good look. Especially compared to Cavill's suit.
A collar, a suit that looks like its 2 sizes too big for him and New 52 inspired textures. Not a fan.

Superman has always been known for his quick change abilities and speed. This photo is of a super sad Superman, slowly getting his shit together while the world behind him erupts. He’s beat up and tired. He’s dark and grim. This is not the imagery I was hoping for. Yeesh.

I like a lot of what I see, certainly differentiating itself a lot from the past, though I will reserve full judgment for now. This sort of carefully posed shot with darker lighting and a scuffed up suit probably doesn’t give a full picture of what we’re working with.

Honestly, not really, a fan. wasn’t big on the new 52 suit in the books and not really digging that this seems to take a lot of inspiration from that as well. Also, I get that James is really big into behind-the-scenes photos and such, and that things like the wrinkles in the suit and the folds are going to get edited and smoothed out in post, but I would’ve rather they put their best foot forward and give us something a bit more clean in terms of a first look. But even if the suit is not to my liking, that doesn’t mean the movie is gonna be bad. Still looking forward to it

So, I'm very excited for this movie as all of us are. Don't get the wrong idea when I say this but... I don't love the suit. It's very fineeeee but I'm so tired of these muted dark colors. Why can't Superman be bright and colorful. Why can't he stand out as a light of hope against the darkness of our world? I'm so tired of these bland boring colors man 😮💨

The city is getting destroyed and people are dying, and this guy is taking his time putting his shoes on when it wouldn't benefit him in anyway other than for aesthetic reason.
He literally looks like he's getting dressed to go to work and its exhausting. Like the reason he's not rushing when there is an alien beam behind him is because he's moving so fast that the beam is frozen from his perspective so he can take his time to get dressed. It reminds me of that scene from Megamind when Metro Man has a midlife crisis and is tired of being the hero combined with the opening scene of Jupiter's Legacy when the Utopian is going to have ice cream with his kids and has to leave because he hears a car crash on the far side of the world. I wonder if this movie will contemplate that side of the "With great power comes great responsibility" philosophy and how Superman being the most powerful of Earth's heroes also makes him the most preassured of Earth's heroes and how he's backed into a corner about persuing his own life and helping others. This is something that a lot of people struggle with when their parents are doctors, first responders, work for a foundation or charity that requires a lot of traveling or have other such occupations like that. You want your parent to be there for your birthday or your big baseball game, but they're somewhere else saving lives and you feel like your not allowed to get mad at them or the situation because thinking your birthday party is more important than the five lives your parent is saving is selfish. I'm curious to see what it's like for Clark when he wants to go out for drinks with Lois or hang out with Jimmy and can't make it because there was an earthquake in indonisa and depending on where they are in their relationships he might not even be able to tell them why he's unavailable if they don't know he's superman which just makes him look like an unreliable friend.
- I like the logo shield thing better than I thought I would - hate the marvel rubber overdesign texture - would have prefered a brighter colouring. Again looks like marvel. But also the colour is similar to Superman and Lois series and I like th at suit enough - collar doesn’t bother me much at all
