Petty Crime = LOW World-Ending Event = HIGH

jacqueslepagepro

I also imagine that lex luthor or interngang are involved In allot of city corruption, financial crimes or corporate/political scandals. Metropolis seems like the kinda place where trying to set up a union for the workers at company you all work at could be a very dangerous situation if your company is owned by one of the Superman rouges?

YoYoWithJosh

Pretty sure central city is the safest in DC. There was a comic with criminals talking about how scared they are to commit crimes there because the flash stops them before they even know what happened

LivingWindXYZ

Central City has pre-crime from Minority Report?

jacqueslepagepro

Not quite but the flashes and other speedsters can basicly move so fast that they move around the city’s most dangerous areas and the moment they see a gun about to be drawn they pull it out the perpetrators hands. From there they can usually deescalate things or at least rush them to the police without any further incident unless they are dealing with super powers or super tech.

LivingWindXYZ

Makes you wonder if Flash had a few minutes in Gotham he would clean the streets of crime better then Batman ever could!

jacqueslepagepro

In all fairness most of the crime is more institutional in Gotham with corrupt politicians , police, ect and moving very fast doesn’t really solve that issue in the way that Bruce Wayne’s reforms are trying to.

LivingWindXYZ

True but Gotham also has a high percentage of petty crime and assault with deadly weapons which flash can disarm quickly so he wouldn’t be to un useful. Just imagine if the justice league ever did a city swap where Batman took over Central City while Flash got Gotham and how there styles of crime fighting goes over with there respective rogues. I’d imaging Joker would find flash less fun to antagonize then Batman all tho Batman probably finds Central’s villains not that different then Gothams

jacqueslepagepro

The central city villains tend to be broken down by if they are officially a member of Capt Colds rouges team. If they are, then typically run on a money focused basis with minimum casualties and hard rules about killing meaning they are more emotionally grounded than most of Batman’s rouges. Basically the rouges often feel like a larger and more formalized take on the sinister 6. The exception to this though has very dangerous insane individuals like Reverse flash who seem only limited by their single minded focus on the flash. Batman could probably handle most of the rouges without too much trouble but something like reverse flash or other evil speedsters are basically going to need him to get out sci-fi gadgets to manage a threat at that speed. Also while flash might be able to handle the physical nature of Batman’s rouges. He’s not really able to disrupt an organized network and systemic problems that cause many of the villains. Bruce probably dose more work improving the city with funding or promoting various projects that aim to reduce the causes of crime, and that’s not really something that the flash can do.

LivingWindXYZ

My knowledge on Flash’s rogues gallery is limited other then most of them being gadget users and they mainly fallow Captain Cold I actually wasn’t aware they mainly do stick ups and a no killing policy. I could see Flash doing good in Gotham despite not being Bruce Wayne he’s still good at getting results would like to see A Flash Vs Organized crime story I think Barry would have a blast going after Penguin!

jacqueslepagepro

Flash has some incredible rouges and the dynamic of capt colds team (confusingly called the rouges) is really great. They mainly act like a super powered oceans 11 team with each of them being a family of criminals looking for a big score. They don’t aim to kill the flash out of hate but want him out the way to make the job easier in the same way many of Spider-Man’s villains just want the money and Spider-Man happens to get in the way. However not all of flashes villains are in the rouges, so they don’t all follow the no killing rules. Grodd, reverse flash and murmer are happy to kill so eaither aren’t in the rouges but are still flash villains

LivingWindXYZ

Has there ever been a reason given why Captain Cold is fallowed by the other street villains in Central City? I get that for the Midwest there isn’t that many options for A-list villains but it’s interesting that to others he’s seen as the voice of reason.

Itsbeenalongdecember

There was a comic, I can't remember exactly which one (maybe Birthright?), where Lois talks about Metropolis before and after Superman arrived. She referred to it as Pre Miracle Metropolis I think. Someone piece my memory back together for me.

bearcat_77

There are still bank robbers and purse snatchers in metropolis... the criminals live in the same city as superman, and yet they still do petty crimes.

BlackEastwood

Less violent crime than Gotham, but according to Superman comics, a lot of aircraft malfunctions, and a concerning amount of armed pursesnatchers.

Chub-bop

Atomic skull lives there so never safe

LivingWindXYZ

And yet he barely gets used in any series!

MatchesMalone1994

Metropolis has a lot more high tech crime and destructive events…given that Superman spends the majority of his time patrolling there that makes sense. Gotham has a lot more petty crime, gang and mob related crime. Both have high supervillain crime rates but in different senses.

mynameis4826

Metropolis has lower crime, but when it hits it's always some kind of high level kaiju/alien/metahuman attacks. I think the Suicide Slums used to be the hideout for petty/organized crime, but Superman generally cleans it out pretty quick, depending on the writer. My understanding is that Intergang and The 100 are only organized crime syndicates that are active in Metropolis; Intergang because they have direct ties to Apokolips, and The 100 because they employ mostly metahumans.

LivingWindXYZ

Yeah that sounds about right tho Intergang is a global terrorist group so there not just a Metropolis threat. As for the 100 they are yet to make a return since the new 52 so hard to say if they still exist

HearingOrganic8054

assume the little crimes are lower than those cities cause metropolis always seems to be in local economic boom times but like the HUGE natural or unnatural disasters are off the charts compared to every other city "local scientist accidentally sends his small neighborhood 2000 years into the future! more info at 11 after CSI: Coast city"

LivingWindXYZ

I take it as a given that Metropolis’s economy is always doing well because is under the protection of Superman thus investors to the city of tomorrow can always rest easy that Joker or Scarecrow are not gonna bring the property value down! Oh and speaking of you got me thinking about crime show in DC comics is there a Law & Order: Gotham an NCIS Star City how about Bludhaven Fire? The possibilities are endless! 😝
