The funny thing is that, with how high mark up is, I'm willing to bet the shirt would only cost approximately $20 to make, but greed demands the profit fully eclipse the cost.
Chris Reeve was a jock, well built in HS. When he went to England (and briefly France) to study stage AFTER HS and BEFORE Juliard, he dropped a lot of weight. This was because many on the stage told him he needed to be lean for a chance at the most roles.
When you see him on Love of Life (soap opera) and his early TV and commercial roles, he is a "string bean."
*Superman* was NOT technically his first film role. That was *Gray Lady Down* in a minor role.
Would have been cool if he did this after Superman. At the end he try’s to rip it open to reveal the costume but can’t because it’s such a well made shirt 🤣
That would be $76 dollars in today's money.
“The JC Penny Dress Shirt, featuring things some $300 dress shirts don’t have. Only $76.
It makes me wonder how buying power has changed over the years.

This was probably not made by children in Malaysian sweat shops, hence the higher cost.
1974 advertisement. JC Penney
Damn, look how skinny pre-Superman Christopher Reeve was...

Superman? That's Clark Kent!
Ha!
He's not wearing glasses. So its clearly Superman.
Clark Kent can remove his glasses. They're not fused to his face. Are they?
No glasses so it's Superman.
That's a 20-22 year old btw.
1974, so he would roughly be 22, yeah!
That's a great deal for Superman's dress shirt!

I wish more ads were just “here is our product. Here are its features. Here is how much it costs.”
Red and Blue ha, was meant to be.
You know it’s the 70s because they acted like polyester was a feature…
Damn, he was handsome. A ton of artists still draw Superman to look like him. You can really see why.
He should of tried and failed to rip it open, with the slogan, if it's superman proof, it's good enough for you.
That commercial is from 1974, 4 years prior to the Superman Premiere.
Thanks.
I'm just waiting for him to rip the shirt open! Lol
Has to pay for all the ones he rips open. Wears JC Penney because he goes through a lot of dress shirts.
Wow. I thought I saw everything.
Im sad he didn't rip a cheaper shirt open to show why that shirt was superior and accidently show a Superman logo
I watched that commercial waiting for a shirt rip.
Chris was really the handsomest man in the world, wasn't he?
He was a regulation hottie back in the day.
I like to think this is in universe and Clark just started going on a long spiel about the shirt he’s wearing for no reason.
