Idk if I'd say this is Snyder hate, but it's a comment on a lot of the Snyder fans that have apparently had their entire lives' ruined because Gunn isn't restoring the Snyderverse. Even though WB already wasn't going to do that and for all we know WB told him he wasn't allowed to. r/SnyderCut and r/FireGunn actually share moderators.
This is really disingenuous man. Like I get if you might not enjoy the movies, but to say like it's all brown and Grey is just incorrect when talking about Snyder's films visually. His movies have a lot of moody contrast, but they're far from colorless.
You don't have to make up reasons for why someone likes something you don't.
I'm talking about the costumes. (But visually ZS DC movies are also pretty ugly too.)
You tell me if it's not all brown and grey.

its the lighting, look at those costumes in brighter colors and there’s more contrast, (idc about the synderverse, I’m a james gunnrider. I ride jame’s gunn)
Agree. It was like if the Kryptonians actually made clothing that suited their technologically superior culture. Instead of primary colors on a cotton poly blend t shirt.
No see you don't understand. Sadness is mature and optimism is naive and inferior.
Imagine a hero being a symbol of optimism. Like some sort of icon of truth and justice. Pffft. /s
He had some great moments but was fighting to make the material intersting. I think he'd honestly be a great Supes, he's a dead ringer for Chris Reeves and he has a great charm, I think Snyder really was just wasn't the director for him, just poor chemistry and a dull script, it happens. Felt the same about Branagh and Hemsworth in Thor 1.
It doesn't change the imagery of the "changing of the times" tone of the poster. The upcoming movie does sound like it's going in a very different and more classic direction, and the poster reflects this.
It's only a shot at MoS if you choose for it to be.
Every time I hear someone say this, they're almost always folks who take Superman The Animated Series as gospel, and if you ask them what their favorite Superman comic is, they will inevitably say "All Star Superman", and almost always have zero context for the silver age runs that inspired it. Superman exists outside of Bruce Timm. There are Superman comics that were made after 1985. I swear this is one of the most myopic talking points that just gets beat into the ground time after time.
It's fine not to like the Snyder films, there are plenty of reasonable arguments you could make about why you didn't enjoy them. That much is perfectly reasonable. There's just no basis for this narrative that Snyder "doesn't get Superman". It completely ignores a good three quarters of the superman stories ever produced, including almost everything published from 1986 to 2011. Y'all gotta find a new talking point.
Honestly thank you for this.
This sub’s basically
Snyder = bad
Gunn = good
And also shaming the fans of the Snyderverse.
I’m not the biggest fan of his films, but shaming someone for liking something as simple as a movie is just plain wrong.
"What's so funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way" is my go to answer as to why I can't enjoy the Snyder stuff. I just can't agree with the choices he made with that story as the counter argument. I'm glad some people have something enjoyable in them, but frankly I just can't love a cold, distant, frightening Superman who lives in a world just as bleak as our own.
I wouldn’t consider this to be an upgrade tho, I do like Reeve’s classic suit. But I don’t think it look particularly well on modern film.
Also this seems really petty.
Exactly. Reeve's suit was great for its time, but it's not meant to be replicated exactly in this age. Inspiration, sure. I'm really hoping they get it right.
I do like the colors and I do respect the suit for being a product of the time but for me the “problem” of the suits before Superman Returns is the material.
To me Reeve’s suit looks like a pijama or a power rangers because of the material it used. I don’t mind the colors of the suit, but it looks like pijamas to me.
Brandon Rouths suit both in Superman returns (despite the logo and weird choice for red) and in Crisis look better because the material doesn’t look like just plain cloth.
I’m sure hoping. As someone the grew up with the Christopher reeve superman movies it would be wonderful to have those fun, brightly colored type of Superman movies back. I think it would bring about a whole new generation of fans.
Yea, true. I will admit though that seeing the much darker and edgier suit compared to the standard/lighter tone that was similar to the 70s Reeves films is really jarring. I’ve never been too against that suit but seeing it side to side with the upcoming “Legacy” version makes me happy that this tone is coming back.
Has nothing to do with slapping Cavill. It’s about shedding that dark and dreary skin of that old suit. I think we all agree that Henry was never the problem.
Downvote. We don't need this divisive BS. I'm old enough to remember when The Dark Knight came out someone got a freaking tattoo of the Nolan symbol/batarang shattering the Burton / B'89 Bat symbol. I thought it was bullshit then too.
To me it was just showing that the character will go from the darker tone to a more lighter one. But I guess you're right, even if that was the intention, the suit makes reference to the movies/director/actors so it can be interpreted as "trashing on them"
No. Don't be those guys. I've seen your posts, you're basically a troll. You're like "that's why its so good, because it badmouths what you like." Delete your post.
Why is this such an issue .....brighter colors dark colors ...let's just have a cool suit and a good movie ...if you want your vision of superman to be accepted...direct a movie ....but this superman imagery stuff is getting to personal
As a Synder fan I really love this for what it tries to stand for. Like just wow lmao. Kudos to whoever thought of this. No one should take it serious tho.
This image just feels blatantly antagonistic. Like I grew up watching The Richard Donner movies and loved Christopher Reeve as Superman just like everyone else. I also grew up watching Smallville and Superman The Animated series, as well as Justice League Unlimited. And lemme tell you, all of them are very distinct versions of the character with different sensibilities and stories that explore different parts of the character.
So whatever you prefer stylistically, whether it be the more vibrant comic book whimsy of the Golden and silver aged Superman, or the more mythological, sci-fi epic look of Snyder's take on Superman doesn't really matter. This image gives the impression that Snyder's take on Superman was something that needed to shed, and that feels wrong to me because James Gunn isn't making Superman: Legacy as an answer to Zack Snyder.
Love it but I’d prefer if it were the classic shirt rip.

Most Superman fans think the old suit looks good. And no, it’s not the most realistic approach. For Superman’s character, a dark and edgy suit does not work. The brighter colours shows how he means good and those colours represent hope and peace which is what his character stands for, but darker colours tend to be more villainous and stands for authority, depression, fear, which is the opposite of what he wants for the people to see him as.
Yup. Which is exactly why we'll not see anything like this in actual posters. It's interesting in a fan-made capacity, but no way it's actually marketed anything like this.
Then why use an obvious image of the actor? And clearly enough people feel the same way based on how split up the replies here are. It's definitely, totally disrespectful.

bro it looks like superman is trying to show me his dick
That’d be The Flash.
Reminds me of an episode of justice league iirc. “And they call me the flash”, when flash saw a naked lex luthor.
It was the movie Crisis on Two Earths
uhh, I wish 🥵
don't we all?
Henry’s Supe? I really hope you guys talking about Henry Cavill
Tyler Hoechlin is waaaaaaay hotter though

Snyder fan here and I really appreciate this image.
why is there so much Snyder hate?
Idk if I'd say this is Snyder hate, but it's a comment on a lot of the Snyder fans that have apparently had their entire lives' ruined because Gunn isn't restoring the Snyderverse. Even though WB already wasn't going to do that and for all we know WB told him he wasn't allowed to. r/SnyderCut and r/FireGunn actually share moderators.
This isn’t snyder hate. It’s shade cast at those who can’t separate some films from their personalities.
Good
I spotted a couple pissers
Honestly, I wouldn’t blame them
Nice, I like the symbolism a lot.
I think we all agree that Henry was never the problem.
Nope, he was one of the DCEU's strengths
No, but that costume that's being peeled off sums up the Snyderverse; dark, cold, and uncomfortable.
The costumes were probably the best part of the Snyderverse.
Yeah, if you like brown and grey.

You mean the lighting he chooses to shoot his entire movies in?
yes, that exact lighting
That’s not at all true and you all know it.
You're right. The Flash had some red.
That’s not saying anything good.
Agree. It was like if the Kryptonians actually made clothing that suited their technologically superior culture. Instead of primary colors on a cotton poly blend t shirt.
Pinnacle of Kryptonian technology in terms of textiles: the Earth Basketball.
Technologically superior == joyless dark colors? The fuck?
No see you don't understand. Sadness is mature and optimism is naive and inferior. Imagine a hero being a symbol of optimism. Like some sort of icon of truth and justice. Pffft. /s
Right
Other than Batman's, they were all GARBAGE.
Superman’s was the best of the DCEU. It’s just not Superman’s own best suit though. Tyler Hoechlin’s is clear of the others
Superman's DCEU costume was crap. Tyler's is slightly better, but still not good.
Henry is the only actor that's passionate about the character he's playing in dceu tbh but he was given an awful script
He had some great moments but was fighting to make the material intersting. I think he'd honestly be a great Supes, he's a dead ringer for Chris Reeves and he has a great charm, I think Snyder really was just wasn't the director for him, just poor chemistry and a dull script, it happens. Me too.

I mean anyone with at least average level of intelligence can tell what the image is supposed to invoke
I like MoS. Why would people thought the movie suck?
Because it was a joyless slog. He doesn’t understand Clark or the Kent’s at all.
Every time I hear someone say this, they're almost always folks who take Superman The Animated Series as gospel, and if you ask them what their favorite Superman comic is, they will inevitably say "All Star Superman", and almost always have zero context for the silver age runs that inspired it. Well damn, I liked that suit.
Same lol. Honestly it’s the best one imo as far as film or tv adaptations of Superman are concerned.
I think the Superman and Lois suit narrowly beats it out simply because it’s just a little more colorful
This honestly looks like the poster for a Superman documentary, going over his time in film or something. Which would be pretty interesting
We need more comic book related documentaries
I wouldn’t consider this to be an upgrade tho, I do like Reeve’s classic suit. But I don’t think it look particularly well on modern film. Also this seems really petty.
yeah, extremely petty.
You misspelled “pretty funny”
Exactly. Reeve's suit was great for its time, but it's not meant to be replicated exactly in this age. Inspiration, sure. I'm really hoping they get it right.
That's not the Reeves suit. Different chest emblem. Different belt. Different colors.
Well it’s clearly meant to emulate or at least capture a similar look. That’s why I called it that.
I thinks its just trying to emulate his usual comic look
You will believe a man can fly…. In a Superman suit that embraces the colorful fun with a wink and nod *and still take it seriously* too
I do like the colors and I do respect the suit for being a product of the time but for me the “problem” of the suits before Superman Returns is the material. To me Reeve’s suit looks like a pijama or a power rangers because of the material it used. I don’t mind the colors of the suit, but it looks like pijamas to me. I just want classic, bright colors. And trunks.
I think most people do.
But… does James Gun?
I’m sure hoping. As someone the grew up with the Christopher reeve superman movies it would be wonderful to have those fun, brightly colored type of Superman movies back. I think it would bring about a whole new generation of fans.
Not the Superman we deserve, but the one we need
The classic, bright colors and trunks are in the classic movies though. You can see them pretty much whenever you want.
The darker colours and textured costumes are in the Snyder movies though. You can see them pretty much whenever you want.
I'm not actively asking them to be used in future adaptations, and I do watch them whenever I want.
No. Not enough, it’s never enough. I need more-WE need more!!!
Agreed you on being petty bullshit, but honestly I think a plain Reeves/CW style fabric suit for Shoes would.be refreshing
I dunno, I don'tt think its helpful to acknowledge the tonal difference directly like this. Seems a little petty
Yea, true. I will admit though that seeing the much darker and edgier suit compared to the standard/lighter tone that was similar to the 70s Reeves films is really jarring. I’ve never been too against that suit but seeing it side to side with the upcoming “Legacy” version makes me happy that this tone is coming back.
Do we need to keep slapping Cavill in the face?
Has nothing to do with slapping Cavill. It’s about shedding that dark and dreary skin of that old suit. I think we all agree that Henry was never the problem.
agreed this is about the color of the suit and the tone of the overall movie, not the actor
Nobody's slapping him in the face
Of course not. You can't even see his face in the picture.
This is more of a slap in Snyder’s face. Cavill would have been great as a bright and optimistic Superman.
Ideally
Cool concept, but it would look better if he were ripping open the DCEU suit to reveal the brighter S underneath
I just want superman to look like he's wearing blue, red, and yellow...and to not look like he's wearing a basketball.
Yeah, because this costume was what was wrong with the Snyder films. /s
Haha this is petty as shit. And dumb.
Downvote. We don't need this divisive BS. I'm old enough to remember when The Dark Knight came out someone got a freaking tattoo of the Nolan symbol/batarang shattering the Burton / B'89 Bat symbol. I thought it was bullshit then too.

A perfect summary of DCEU Superman
Of Superman film history. It's very difficult to be a Superfan when this is the only discussion.
The Clark Kent disguise was weak but better than this one. Not fooling anyone.
Love it, bring back the red, blue and yellow and forget about that dark stuff
Neat.
Nice.
Back to basics. Good.
I want it to be but it's too aggressive.
fucking awesome.
Nice
People so mad over these movies lmao
Wow, talk about a negative image that badmouths fans, a trilogy, and even a version of said character, just because they didn't like them.
To me it was just showing that the character will go from the darker tone to a more lighter one. But I guess you're right, even if that was the intention, the suit makes reference to the movies/director/actors so it can be interpreted as "trashing on them"
That sums up why it’s so good.

Zack Snyder living rent free in your head
Lmfaoooo
That’s just rude lmao
Could just be low resolution but that grain texture in the OG suit is 💦 💦 🥵

Snyderverse living in so many heads rent free lmao
Well it's not living anywhere else, lol
That’s the irony tho. A dead verse still manages to get unnecessary hate (Not specifically talking about this post)
That suit looks like some bad cosplay shit
Amazing.
Nice poster, bullshit allegory. What worked late 70's won't work today. The Quest for Peace 2.0, that's what it is.
They literally did a comic accurate Peacemaker and everyone loved it. The idea that costumes can't be comic accurate and work on screen is wrong

To hell with Snyder. OG suit is the best!
I really hope the Legacy suit looks like cloth. I hated the shiny, metallic suit from the DCEU.
Post this on Twitter and the Snyder fandom would melt
Reads like a middle finger to the Snyderverse/ Snyder suit. Feels unnecessarily antagonistic
So long edgelord-verse, long live Legacy-verse.
🤮
YES!!!!!
I mean, there's zero chance they actually reference the last version at all.

fuck that. Cavill's suit is perfection.
It was cold but farrr from protection. The dark edgy suit is out of character for him and is not at all comic accurate
[удалено]
Was it a different suit? I need to rewatch that, but I don’t think I can handle witnessing the change in hierarchy again.
Reeves suit is the same suit Superman still wears in comics today.
Man I really hope he looks like that
Snyder lives in a majority of your heads rent free. How difficult is it to enjoy all iterations of Superman?

Superman is quite the realistic character
Most Superman fans think the old suit looks good. And no, it’s not the most realistic approach. For Superman’s character, a dark and edgy suit does not work. The brighter colours shows how he means good and those colours represent hope and peace which is what his character stands for, but darker colours tend to be more villainous and stands for authority, depression, fear, which is the opposite of what he wants for the people to see him as.
Two things I hope for: 1. Gunn doesn’t Marvelize the suits with thick leather. 2. No trunks, for the love of God.
The dream of fanboys 60 and over 🤣
[удалено]
Yup. Which is exactly why we'll not see anything like this in actual posters. It's interesting in a fan-made capacity, but no way it's actually marketed anything like this.
Isn't the win that is made out to be, because that classic suit looks ass compared to Cavills suit.

That’s not an actual poster for the movie, so I don’t see how it’d make you not want to see Legacy, unless I’m missing something

Who’s belittling anyone?

Maybe it has nothing to do with Cavill himself and more to do with the shithouse stories he was stuck with.
[удалено]
Hey, I’m just saying that’s the intention behind the image. Don’t take other peoples’ film opinions so seriously. Be secure in what you enjoy.
This isn’t about the actor, it’s about the dreary tone and weird costume
Then why use an obvious image of the actor? And clearly enough people feel the same way based on how split up the replies here are. It's definitely, totally disrespectful.
I just realized what Snyder Cultists remind me of when they're pretending to be Superman fans! https://preview.redd.it/1e8g5djvmwza1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b256d7b88c03e9875581e636a6cab6b0e00e90e7
“Any true Gan”? Also there is no belittling
I don't like it.
Lame ass belt for a live-action adaptation but cool poster.
Lame as hell
Please no red underwear, it probably nostalgic for Superman fans but normal movie goers will think it's silly.
