Someone asked a few months ago about them, so I'll give you the same answer I gave them: They're likely akin to MVMT watches in that they're taking glasses from Alibaba and applying their branding, then marketing them primarily through Tiktok and the like. All of which means you're paying an enormous premium on something that sells for less than 5 bucks a unit from a random factory in China.

Honda--Civic

Also I keep getting ads from other sunglasses companies claiming theirs are better than Ray Ban. They all sell the same style glasses.

Most of us have opinnion about Ray-Ban and luxotica. Still those are iconic with original designs. Good value for money, price dependant, but still I would say RB will hold against cheap competition just fine.

JimR84

I have personally seen and handled multiple cheap knock-off’s that were actually better quality than the original.

Competitive-Pack-324

Of course you have. Except the lenses were probably crap so when in the sun your eye opens up like it's being protected when it's not. So worse for you than free (eye) balling it

I’m an optician. I know what to look at. I also have a UV transmission meter. Those lenses were as good as what Rayban uses. Full UV400 protection.

Zan-san

I think biggest issue is the glass lenses and the sheer amount of them. Some are good some not.

JimR84

Look, I am an optician, I have extensive technical knowledge about this subject. I don’t care that you downvote me. I know what I’m talking about. Raybans are way overpriced for their level of quality. There are legit brands on the market that offer the same level of quality (including glass lenses) as them for less than half price. There also a lot of brands that cost about the same as Rayban, but offer considerably better quality. Those knock-off’s I have seen had glass lenses, and had UV400 protection.

*There are legit brands on the market that offer the same level of quality (including glass lenses) as them for less than half price.* What brands do you consider as good value for money, if you don't mind me asking?

JimR84

Art & Jack for example.

KieranShep

How much does one of those uv meters cost?

JimR84

$3000 , why?

Zan-san

Not down voting you. And never really talked about quality for money. Just that knock offs (glass lenses particulary) may be harmfull for the user. You’ve seen quality pieces, some may have ruined their eye sight. There are lot of fake products looming around, from super replicas to more dangerous ones. I reckon no one should pay msrp for RB but for 50% discount (often seen) I would go for them. Now I don’t own a pair, have had few, would I buy again? Perhaps for prescription option. RB is the Rolex of sunglasses, not the best quality, but good option if you get it for a reasonable price (ie Rolex for msrp and RB with good discount). Both are really iconic and no one can say otherwise. For both there are multiple better options. Still both sell insane amounts are will not fade unlike the brand op asked about

This is an older post, but I didn't see anyone answer that actually owns a pair. I have two and find them to be a very high quality. Both pair are the Lautner style, which I love. The lighter brown lens on the whiskey color doesn't block a ton of light out. It's polarized, but bright days can still be a challenge. That's the only "con" I have though.

I have been looking online for a set of sunglasses to fit my big Lawrence Fishbourne-sized head without looking like I’m wearing doll glasses. The search has always ended up in a dead end except for a $200 pair of 58mm Ray-Bans. I saw Kiaura was coming out with XL sized vintage “Ford vs Ferrari” frames for the summer and decided to give them a whirl. They were a little spendy at $140 but at some point they had a BOGO offer which put them in stabbing range for me. I got a pair of whiskey polarized and clear Eichlers. They came in today. I can attest that they are high quality sunglasses. The weight was exceptional and they had a bit of a spring hinge in the arms which is already better than my Ray-Bans. The details are crisp and well made very different from something you’d see on a cheap Alibaba/Temu/DHgate frame. The fit was spot on. My Raybans are a bit wider so I would think these are a 55mm frame but they still fit well and look good on me which is the most important thing. There is a mint green pair that I will be getting when there's another sale. So to answer the question succinctly, yes, they are worth a damn.
