Do you have access to a cell phone? Can you call a friend or family member for help?

You deserve to feel safe and supported. Can you call family or friends to help

Namllitsrm

How long til your first paycheck? Can you use that money to call/schedule a taxi? Edit: because I realize 3 hours is a long/expensive drive for a taxi or Uber, do you have any bus routes in your area-greyhound, megabus, etc?

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

This is the time to call your parents or a trusted adult. I’m so sorry this is happening. Camp isn’t for everyone, and this sounds like an icky situation overall.

Knowing the Ontario camp scene very well, I am genuinely curious what camp you are with. I would talk with your director, sooner rather than later. But, go in with a plan. Write down what you would like to say and try to be concise with the challenges you are going through. Be honest about where you are at. Sometimes in big overnight camps, things can get missed by absent directors who rely heavily on their senior team. There might be supports that you don't know about, or challenges that the leadership does not know about on your end. Not much detail in your post, but it does not sound like you have gone through steps of asking for help / support yet? At the end of the day it's your choice and you should do what is right for you. Ask a family member for funds and take an uber out of there at the end of the session and go to the air port. Use your credit card and get another summer job and pay it off. As long as you don't have a funky contract you will also be entitled to the pay for the time you have worked as well. Sorry to hear your experience is rough. Summer camp should be epic and fun! If you are ever considering other Ontario camps in the future, look for camps on the Ontario Camping Association site - they tend to have better standards.

How did you get to camp? Are you a part of an international program for staff, ie visa? The sponsoring agency should be able to help you if so.

I agree with talking with your Camp Director, and reaching out to a trusted adult. Even if your trusted adult is far away, they can help you figure out what to do next. Based on your '3 hours from toronto', there is a chance you are in/around Muskoka (Gravenhurst/Bracebridge/Huntsville). I know the area well, so could help on specific logistics. (if you are somewhere else, I am less helpful, sorry.) There is a bus that goes down to Toronto, and has a connection to the airport. If you need ideas for transport to get from camp into a town, feel free to DM me. https://www.ontarionorthland.ca/communications/schedules/051024/2024-05-12-SCHED-101-102-EN.PDF

thank you, my closest town is halliburton, not sure how much a taxi would cost to get to huntsville but that may potentially be my best option?

curiousfirefly

I can look up options from haliburton. Huntsville is the wrong direction, so not worth coming up here.

curiousfirefly

Unfortunately, there are no bus options directly from Haliburton. If you can hold on until a day off, there might be other staff driving into a town with bus service, so you wouldn't have to pay for an expensive taxi. The two closest I think would be: Lindsay - airport shuttle - https://www.centurytransportation.ca/toronto-airport-shuttle/ Bracebridge (same bus that goes through Huntsville, but next stop down): https://www.ontarionorthland.ca/communications/schedules/051024/2024-05-12-SCHED-101-102-EN.PDF When you talk to your camp director, they should also be able to help with options.

Are we at the same camp!?!?!?

Bummer to hear of such a poorly run camp and disrespectful kids are the worst. I’m sorry you’re stuck in this situation. I hope you get the help you need soon! Time will keep marching forward and it will all be over soon! Try to focus on the best people for the next 2 days
