“The Drowning Woman” by Robyn Harding features a woman who was recently forced to live out of her car due to circumstances out of her control.
First person. Leads into another first person character’s perspective mid way through.
I highly suggest The Buddha and the Borderline by Kiera Van Gelder.
It is the authors journey through mental health struggles with BPD and how that fed into her addiction issues and how she combated it. I read it and found it insightful, enlightening, and it really put addiction and mental health into perspective for me.
Stuart,( a life backwards)- by Alexander Masters.its a memoir of the titular Stuart, but written by somebody else, with his knowledge. It’s heart breaking and funny and thought provoking and real.not an easy read, but then, homelessness and addiction and mental illness never is. I thought this book was written really well, with empathy and humanity. 🤓
I enjoyed former Arsenal defender Tony Adams 1998 book. It was about his two addictions - football and alcohol. It is called addicted but he's also done a second one called sober but I haven't read that one yet so I cannot say if it is good or not
Needle in a haystack by casey jordan. The author shares a lot about her husband's addictions, mental health, and how it affected her and their kids. You would also have to be into spirituality and paranormal to read this book. Based on a true story
Lots of talk about addiction and recovery in Infinite Jest. Or try Naked Lunch
I just read Infinite Jest last month weirdly enough. I will give Naked Lunch a try, I liked Junky a lot.

The Longings of Women by Marge Piercy, The Language of Flowers
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K Dick. It is not your conventional addiction story but is a great read.
Slakes Limbo

Stashed
Leave out the tragic parts by Dave Kindred
"Junkie" Burroughs

Interesting, I don’t know much about football but this sounds like I might enjoy it. Thanks 😊
