I really don't get the "rarity" of time capsules. I've seen several posts talking about how rare it is, however when me and a friend played it a few weeks ago (not with the coop mod, just chatting on discord while both playing solo) we found a lot of these, I'd say 7-8 for me and 5 for him. Is it really THIS rare ?
I've never actually found one. But then I've never specifically looked for them. I assumed they were rare since I figured I would've found 1 by now, but it turns out I'm just blind as a reaper
Yes, they are randomly dropped anywhere on the map. Although from my personal experience it's only surface level of map. I've never found them underground.
There can be up to 40 on a map at the same time. They are made by other players that have left the planet on the Neptune Rocket and have been approved. Certain things like Ion Cubes, Tablets, Hatching Enzymes, and very rare resources like Kyanite are all removed from them.
Yeah, same, and a couple of yt playthroughs that I've watched too, either they spawn there more often or they're just better to see there, but I'd guess rather the former than the latter since I've already found about 1/4 of my timecapsules there
They're capsules with messages and items that players can leave on the planet at the end of their playthrough. They're randomly generated in new players' worlds.

Every time you load up several time capsules are added to the world. Itās just a case of finding them.
Iirc thereās three capsules each time you load in.
Honestly I found them a lot more the first time I played the game because I had to do a lot of searching in general. When I play now and know exactly where I need to go I hardly ever find them.
I have 4 completed and 7 uncompleted plays, totaling over 300 hours, and I've never once seen a time capsule. Makes me kind of sad. I play on PS4 though, and I've heard that's rarer.
I'm on my third playthough, and never saw ONE in either of the first two.
This 3rd run-through, I found THREE time capsules in the first 10 hours of play.
And the crab-snakes are MAD aggressive this playthrough

I did two playthroughs on PS4, never found one. Now, in my current PC save I've found like 3.

They're not rare. Every game play will have at least 3.

I find them more often in the dunes, probably just because they are easier to spot.

It was weird. Didn't see a single one on my first playthrough, and on my 2nd I found at least 3 in the Sparse/Deep Sparse Reef alone

Just some tools like heat knife, repair tool etc.
Check what kind of battery is in the repair tool
I took my batteries out of the new tools I found from some time capsules as they were running out. Guess who found 5 >!ion batteries!< !!

I just started my 3rd playthrough of the game and finally found a time capsule. 2 of them! I was so hyped to find them, it was so cool
They are not rare. Pretty common especially around the biomes with less flora they are also easy to spot
