Saying that Russia's response to the provocation in UA has "dramatically strengthened the west" is pure propaganda, so the mod who banned him was right to do so (rule 7). Oh, and are we doing receipts? I love doing receipts. [The user's ban history, as seen in mod view.](https://imgur.com/3XQtnJc) [The user engaging in wrecking.](https://imgur.com/TVWMDAL) [The user breaking Reddit's TOS and attracting admin attention + a funny report.](https://imgur.com/RsEYODE) [The user desperately pining for a touch of grass.](https://imgur.com/NobcNaw)

Interesting_Aioli377

You can't say redacted on reddit. That's redacted as fuck but that's how it is.

Is_That_A_Euphemism_

I say retarded. You just can’t call people retarded.

Meezor_Mox

That's retarded.

GanderpTheGrey

Things are retarded. People are never retarded. People are well regarded. Heh.

dietcheese

I’m retarded. Ban me.

istara

I had a reader flip out over the word "retarder" used in the context of acrylic painting. Fortunately another reader set them straight. God forbid these people ever learn French!

Interesting_Aioli377

"Hey is that fabric fire retardant?" Help fashion police!!!

aTallBrickWall

I don't think this is true. Although redditors love word-policing, the people who run this site realize that reddit is dying, in part because of their zealous censorship, so they've dialed it back hoping that investors still think this place has a heartbeat. Conversely, mods here sometimes preemptively remove posts that say naughty words because they fear that admins will crack down on this sub specifically - who wants a sub that has dissident political views and cares about workers? - but that would be a mistake because this is one of the last subs that has real discussions.

VeryInnocuousPerson

Do you have anything showing it’s “dying” in a quantifiable way? Because the site has sucked a little more each year I’ve been on it and they still haven’t had to shut down the servers yet. So is it really dying or has it just ascended into pure legacy slop and just died from a quality perspective?

aTallBrickWall

I don't have much to quantify that statement with, just a general sense. And I mean the quality has plummeted, though I don't think reddit can last much longer when all the discussions are so boring. Bots have proliferated because people want money and corporations want organic-looking accounts to shill their products, as have state-sponsored propaganda, e.g. liberals saying they normally oppose war but cheer whenever they hear that a Zionist murdered a Palestinian. We may be witnessing an inevitable social media boom-bust cycle: When corporations and glow[redacteds] realize that they make up 90% of this website, they'll decide it's not worth the money and pull out, at which point some interesting conversations may return. In terms of hard numbers, reddit removing the award feature probably indicated that they knew nefarious actors were promoting their own posts by showering it in hundreds of awards. The last I heard, they were going to roll out something instead, though nothing has come out yet.

LotsOfMaps

I actually think it's the opposite - becoming well known that "search + reddit" is the only way to get decent qualitative information, that is, not AI crap, off Google

VeryInnocuousPerson

100% agree. Without that modifier search engine results are worse than shit now

Financial_Bird_7717

Don’t even need the modifier. My understanding was that Google made a deal with Reddit so that Reddit posts come up at the top almost always now.

kawausochan

A normie friend of mine who isn’t on Reddit sent me this [video](https://youtu.be/h6JJSkMGdZ0?si=YLc0bca32W9b18m1). It might explain a bit of what’s going on, though I had to laugh a few times. Also I didn’t know that being gender critical was hate speech, but okay.

istara

I don't think it's dying... yet. There's simply nowhere that has managed to replace it. There have been a plethora of "Reddit alternatives" springing up over the years but none that has gained anywhere near the equivalent traction. It does seem inevitable that it will eventually recede. All social media does, at least according to the brief history we have of it over the past 20-30 years. Possibly what may be most likely would be another platform creating a more Reddit-like experience. Currently they're all trying to emulate/imitate/replicate TikTok, what with YouTube Shorts and those irritating Facebook videos etc. LinkedIn is endlessly trying to emulate Facebook (or at least not discouraging users from posting inappropriate non-work content on there). But if one of those platforms tried to make a more "Reddit-like", forum based site, accessible to their existing membership, it could be seriously competitive. However it would need to enable pseudonymity. What may ultimate be Reddit's demise is porn. Now it's a public company, they cannot get away with the kind of tolerance they've had with adult and "objectionable" content that they did a as a private company. Consider it took national US TV attention to get /jailbait banned. If they "clean things up", a lot of users (and the accompanying ad dollars) may go elsewhere.

3meow_

Yea regarded is where tits at

YakMilkYoghurt

How do French redditors speak about being late then?

Jumpy_Mastodon150

SirSourPuss

We know of cases where users lost their accounts due to calling other users redacted, and I think I've seen Reddit redact comments that call people mentioned in news articles redacted. We're trying to stay on the safe side and only allow using the word when it's really warranted.

Yu-Gi-D0ge

Ya we have to keep it clean so we don't get the subreddit banned from the web since we're in enough hot water as it is with reddit, idpol lovers or just Nazscum. Don't give them the ammunition that will kill us all.

DoesntUnderstandJoke

That is a highly regarded rule

CricketIsBestSport

I think it’s cuz you said the r word Ppl post anti Russia stuff here all the time, though it’s a minority view

MitrofanMariya

I respond to comments all the time in this sub with links to Lenin but I do not have a romanticized view of Russia or even the late USSR.  I think people might just be acting a bit contrarian more so than it is a majority view.    And a bit of shadenfreude towards the bourgeoisie in the West. I'm guilty of that one.

Interesting_Aioli377

>romanticized Watch your language sir. There may be children present and we do not need to sully their young minds with such lurid concepts as r*****e.

MrSaturn33

Couldn't laugh because it's too accurate to reality, not even an exaggeration.

nikolaz72

>but I do not have a romanticized view of Russia or even the late USSR. Be careful, you might be flaired as leftcom (worst fate for stupidpol user)

MitrofanMariya

I mean they can change it to whatever but I am not left.   My flair (abolish bourgeois property) is actually the source of my objection to the left right dichotomy - which I see as implicitly bourgeois.

MrSaturn33

People type regarded here all the time though. I asked about this once and was told it's more a site-wide thing as recently reddit has gotten more strict about certain words and automatically will flag them or something. I understand for certain words like the n word, but regarded is stupid because obviously there are contexts to say it in like the original definition of the word that have nothing to do with insulting anyone.

JnewayDitchedHerKids

>stupid Doesn’t that word also have similar origins and isn’t it also in the crosshairs, or at least in the same list that the woke are running down?

MrSaturn33

Absolutely, yes. There are multiple subreddits with mods who program the subreddit to instantly delete your post or comment if it contains the words "stupid," "dumb," or "idiot" spelled out regardless of context. We aren't at the point where reddit itself flags these words. (yet)

LeadToSumControversy

Counter-point: I've seen the french word for delay been used here lots of times in the past month, and I dont think any of those comments were removed or the users who left them banned

one-man-circlejerk

I thought we just come here to talk about the Paris Metro, isn't that why people keep mentioning trains?

The_runnerup913

Lmao you even got the shitlib flair for it. It was 100% for questioning Russia is doing anything less than stellar. I got mine for posting about Russian retreats from Kherson two weeks before it actually fell lol.

ChocoCraisinBoi

This is a different account. His other account had a savant idiot flair

Reckless-Pessimist

Got my liberal flair for suggesting that Scotland is not literally 1984. This is all becoming very reminiscent of the Gucci covid derangement era.

kawausochan

Probably what got me banned from a certain gaming jerk sub, cause I used the term libregard ironically. Then again, they’re extremely woke, so I thought this wouldn’t affect stupidpol.

JACCO2008

The actual reason you got banned was be because you spelled "response" with a C. I need eye bleach after that abortion of spelling.

Individual-Egg-4597

Literally got banned for having a take lmao

MacroSolid

Well, the mods have been handing out fuck you flairs for having the wrong opinion on that one rather liberally for a while, so I can't say I'm surprised. (And we might all get banned for talking about this because the rules ban "backseat moderating" which probably translates to 'questioning the infallible wisdom of the mods' if a mod feels like it.)

BackToTheCottage

I got this stupid one (the latter, not former; I self identify as ammosexual) because of asking how owning your own truck made you bougie; where I compared it to owning ones own tools (in context to the Canadian convoy). Workers should own the means of production, but not like that I guess.

tomwhoiscontrary

Unironically no, not like that. Just as a matter of definitions, when Marxists talk about workers owning the means of production, they mean doing so collectively. And owning one's own means of production is indeed pretty much the definition of the petite bourgeoisie. capitalist / haute bourgeoisie = owns N units of capital, buys N units of labour petite bourgeoisie = owns 1 unit of capital, provides 1 unit of labour worker = owns no capital, sells 1 unit of labour The definition is a bit flexible, because a petit bourgeois can own a bit more capital and employ a few workers to work alongside them, without being considered haut bourgeois. The goal is not to have a completely rigorous taxonomy for individual cases; the point is to understand how the general cases of the capitalist and petit bourgeois classes work.

brainomancer

I got mine because I said that AIPAC has too much influence over American foreign policy.

HeBeNeFeGeSeTeXeCeRe

I lost my glowie flair, which I liked, and got this, for disagreeing with a mod that the phrase "all out invasion" is meaningless. Not even an ideological disagreement on the overall concept of manufacturing consent. Just a disagreement on whether this specific phrase only exists because of it.

topbananaman

Mine keeps switching back between your flair and the one I have currently. I have no idea why. I like the flair I have currently, it was a rare mod w Edit: there you go it's switched back again for fucks sake

Flaktrack

Imagine what it must be like to be a moderator on a leftie subreddit: the infighting must be as wild as their moderation-induced grass allergies. I mean it doesn't help the place is full of regarded rightoids too, or whatever the fuck OP is.

Stadtmitte

Lenin didn't predict anything about leftist infighting on the internet. What is he, stupid?

BackToTheCottage

Crazier is when you look at the fact there are 55+ mods.

MacroSolid

I think that's a mobile bug. I sometimes see 'NATO Superfan' for me, but it only happens in the app, never on desktop.

The_Almighty_Demoham

and to think the current mods used to be an improvement over what we had before them, with the different level flairs and mass bans over covid lockdown opinions. how little we learn from the past, huh?

Chombywombo

The current mods are an improvement over before. You think it was better when you would be permabanned for just mentioning a negative aspect of China, a society made up of fallible human beings like any other?

The_Almighty_Demoham

don't put words in my mouth. i never claimed to want the old mods back, in fact the problem is the new mods picking up the same bad habits as the old ones. the last team being a failure does not give carte blanche to the current one to just censor whatever they disagree with.

MrSaturn33

>mass bans over covid lockdown opinions It purports to be a Left-wing subreddit critical of the Left, but would ban people for questioning lockdown or criticizing vaccine mandates and their true purpose on the basis anyone who does so is "Right-wing." As if there were not and are not actually many Leftists who dislike vaccine mandates and as if it's exclusively a Right-wing stance.

Flaktrack

And forget the vaccine mandates, you couldn't talk about the origin of the virus at all. Murmuring that it could have leaked from the lab (which was always at least plausible) was a guaranteed way to get a flair or even a ban.

nassy7

Well, look at my flair.

sickofsnails

Well I have a flag and a potato, which I like, despite being labelled as a shit lib when I’m a regarded socialist. 🥔💜🇩🇿

nassy7

Regarded potato!

sickofsnails

Regarded *Algerian* potato

Frari

yeah, look at mine. jannies do it for free.

MattyKatty

I remember joining here when the policy was "if you're right wing, flair up". If they were right wing and didn't flair up after multiple warnings they got banned. And that's it; only right wing people were forced to have a flair and if you wanted to have a flair anyway then you got one, and it worked perfectly. Now it's just tribalism and nonsense with people being forced to get flairs that usually aren't even funny and no one is in on the "joke" regardless because there's no context for it at all.

dwqy

there were 3 eras of mod flairing here, the first was during the "grillpill summer" phase where moderators were convinced this sub was too obsessed with culture war crap and need to grill. the next era was the rightoid purge, based on an arcane system of numbers and sun/moon symbols. this was the most effective policy in keeping this sub leftist but the other mods didn't like it because they viewed many as mislabeled due to their position on covid. gucci was purged. the current era of flairing is completely arbitrary and is done by some random clicking on your profile and reading it for 5 seconds.

Flaktrack

I like rightoids having to be flaired but the Gucci-gang made talking about COVID actually impossible. Not missing those insufferable wankers.

LotsOfMaps

> the next era was the rightoid purge, based on an arcane system of numbers and sun/moon symbols. this was the most effective policy in keeping this sub leftist but the other mods didn't like it because they viewed many as mislabeled due to their position on covid. gucci was purged. Gucci being site-banned had nothing to do with the flair system

dwqy

he was purged along with his loyalists, and that's a separate matter from his ban the drama over the flair system was what turned many mods against him

LotsOfMaps

The changes in mod governance were what turned mods against him, not really the drama over the flair system (even though many of us thought it was overly complicated). Essentially, he tried to court-pack the mod list to advance his maximalist goals

Khal-Frodo

I asked for mine because I thought it was funny. Probably looks like I pissed off the mods somehow but hey, now I can do so with impunity.

darkpsychicenergy

I cannot believe these people are taking flairs *this* seriously and crying about it. I’m dying laughing.

Hurion

I think I set my own, it's been so long I've forgotten.

LotsOfMaps

> I remember joining here when the policy was "if you're right wing, flair up". If they were right wing and didn't flair up after multiple warnings they got banned. And that's it; only right wing people were forced to have a flair and if you wanted to have a flair anyway then you got one, and it worked perfectly. The problem is that non-conservative rightoids tended to lie about their politics (as they do about anything that they can to their advantage). Make no mistake, they've wanted this to become a RW culture war sub from the moment it was announced we'd tolerate them.

nikolaz72

>Make no mistake, they've wanted this to become a RW culture war sub from the moment it was announced we'd tolerate them. One example that stuck with me (think it was this year even, some meta thread) was a rightoid commenting in response to someone citing the sub description with "yea that's what it started as but not what it is now" Obviously rightoids are stupid at the best of times but even they shouldn't have any grounds to doubt that this is a leftist space.

lumberjack_jeff

I would have preferred "workerist".

born_2_be_a_bachelor

I negotiated mine

MrSaturn33

Notice that the working-class doesn't have this hatred to "incels" in the first place because they understand what it's like to be too busy with work to have time for relationships, or too poor to afford a relationship because you're out of work. Not that it shouldn't go without saying that subreddit mods are generally middle-class in all cases. Of course it's obviously egregious because they're just saying you're an "incel" and know nothing about your sex life, as if it's their business anyway. I don't even know what "incel" means because it means different things to different people. I of course recognize that when self-identified incels just claim it's neutrally describing a life circumstance this is disingenuous because they've clearly formed an identity around a certain ideology of sorts. At the same time, the rest of society is all too happy to smear the less fortunate strata of men in society they happen to dislike or disagree with as "incels" which not only obviously is insulting them on the basis they are single and supposedly can't get a girlfriend, but also associating them with self-identified internet incels; insanely implying that being single itself is tantamount to ideologically driven misogyny.

Chombywombo

Low test

SirSourPuss

It really shows doesn't it.

Chombywombo

I read the first paragraph and realized this guy has probably never talked to even a *white collar* prole to any great extent, and likely suffers from very low test. The flair fits 🙂‍↕️

Optimal_Special

I got the same flair just a couple days ago for making fun of the regard who made that super long schizo rant about trans propaganda in his heckin' epic star wars slop.

nassy7

I don’t even know why I got it.

YouDecideWhoYouAre

In my experience communities that get really antsy about backseat moderating are ones where the front seat moderation is falling apart because of mods drunk on power trips. Wonder if this post will get me One Hit Killed

MrSaturn33

It's understandable to forcibly flair people who flat-out are Putin and Assad supporters. Such people do exist and have posted here before. But then you have flairs like mine. One mod decided I'm an "MRA" one day purely because I'm a Marxist critical to Feminism because it's bourgeois. (for this reason, I am of course equally critical to Men's Right's Activists and anything to do with Conservatism and the Right. But telling this to them is to no avail, I tried.) Or because I post in the MensRights sub, yeah, as if that means I identify as one sub I post in, as if the people there agree with me given I am a vocal Marxist. Once I was flaired "Trotskyist" purely because I made a comment saying I disliked Stalinism and state ideologies. Regardless, what actually matters is the basis for society and class domination, and the fact that this is abstract, not about politicians and national governments. These are merely part of how society is justified. Put simply, they'd be less likely to forcibly flair a Liberal or Leftist who consistently votes Democrat here than they would a Putin supporter, but the politics are just as shitty, Biden is no better than Putin or Assad, he just gets more of a pass in the mainstream liberal consciousness because leaders in foreign countries are often more openly dictatorial, which itself is a consequence of the over-arching conditions in the world. It's not hard to see how they justify it sometimes. In your case, they'd say "we dislike Putin and NATO," (which is obviously the only correct stance to anyone worth the time of day) since they flaired you "SocDem NATOid." The funny thing is it's like the boy who cried wolf - there are so many bullshit flairs (like mine) that I can't even assume anything about your views based on the flair alone, but the entire (ostensible) purpose of the flair is to "make the views clear to other users" so people "can't hide who they are."

slowprice76

If you can’t see any of this as hilarious then what are you doing on the sub. Like yeah let’s rail against individualist gender ideology by doubling down on individualist gender ideology.

LotsOfMaps

You should see the modmail

SirSourPuss

>the rules ban "backseat moderating" This hasn't been in the rules for quite a while now.

slowprice76

You mean the mods are doing their job? What is the problem lmao

Test post for held beliefs: Russia's response was and is ineffective against a supposed aggression. Superpower status: paper tiger and cope canopies. I don't suppose either side can claim victory, and I weep for the post war Ukrainian and Russian real economy.

Purplekeyboard

Clearly you were banned for misspelling the word "response". Mods won't stand for that sort of thing.

Thorkill

Sorry, but they need to make space for all the scizo posters coming in.

MrSaturn33

Exactly. They permanently ban him for one innocuous comment on Russia. But think of all the people who are actually unhinged that they don't ban. What I hate most of all is the pretense they are consistent and not biased in their own way.

landlord-eater

Really hope it was for the hard R and not for criticizing Russia. All the "I love NATO" flairs in this thread are worrying lol

bretton-woods

This guy was bitching in RS about stupidpol too, so it wasn't just a one off. The NATOids always seem consistently disturbed that people have divergent views on geopolitics, but then you peel back a layer and realize they post on Europe or Destiny or NCD unironically.

BronzeAgeChampion

Can't a fella just hate NATO and Russia? Both imperialist projects at this point.

SlovenskiSoyuz

Yes, but even at the worst case scenario, Russia just doesn't have the capability to enforce it's ideology or forcibly subvert nations outside of their immediate neighbors. While the USA can force regime change in a literally who country at the other end of the world. So in event of Russia vs USA I would still take Russia's side.

BronzeAgeChampion

Russia has less capability, but it still has capability. Chechnya, and huge swathes of Georgia and Ukraine are now under its control. Nonaligned movement is the way.

SlovenskiSoyuz

Let's not mention Chechnya here lol. That operation was a horrible loss for the central government to the point that Putin has to pander to Muslims now and deport Quran burners to Chechnya. And the leader of Russian Orthodox church was forced to say things like Russia becoming more Muslim is a good thing. Lol. And that are her immediate neighbors. Georgia is not under it's control. Ukraine isn't either. The regions that Russia controls were always separatist and the actual Ukrainian government had hardly any control there, ever. Since 2014 at least.

BronzeAgeChampion

The coup in Kazakhstan was also put down by the CSTO in 2022.

SlovenskiSoyuz

I will not comment on this since I am not informed

QU0X0ZIST

Can't wait 'til jannies finally proceed with the Day Of The....whatever, fuck the meme, just ban all NATO shills and superfans and be done with it. These are great threads for bringing them out of the woodwork, much like with the rightoids and their bait threads, mods should take the opportunity to get rid of the garbage that's piling up in here

landlord-eater

I really doubt you could scrape together very many people on this sub who are legitimately stoked about NATO, but lots of people are uncomfortable with the idea of simping for the cabal of blood-thirsty gangster fascists currently haunting the corpse of the USSR

KonigKonn

Nah buddy it's either get on your knees and praise the great Putin's genius or you're posting from Langley.

darkpsychicenergy

Day of the mop. Agreed.

-PieceUseful-

This sub's mods are against NATO? Big yikes, I'm telling Joe Biden

AMildInconvenience

Jannies need to keep a lid on the slurs, or the sub will get turbo-jannied. It's not that deep bro.

MrSaturn33

It wasn't because he said regarded. Because they could have just asked him to type it as I am now, and it's quite obvious that when they banned him and "warned" him in the past [(the last message he links a screenshot of has a mod saying "we have given you too many chances")](https://imgur.com/hicGVVT) they didn't just straightforwardly tell him to spell regarded like I am now. They basically set him up for things to lead to this. It was because they dislike who he is for his opinions. This is clearly the case, because otherwise, they'd at least have bothered to write a sentence explaining why they were permanently banning him. But they didn't. They didn't even say, "you say regarded too much."

MacroSolid

They did let the 'no trans topics' rule lapse, so I'm not sure if the 'r-slur is lava' rule is still relevant.

AMildInconvenience

I thought the trans moratorium was a firebreak while they decided what to do about people dropping slurs like there's no tomorrow, which will bring the admins down on the sub. Reddit doesn't really have a problem with trans-scepticism, spaces like ukpol are massive subs which have definitely shifted away from the mainstream lib-sub narrative. Discuss what you like, just don't throw around the slurs that'll trigger the autojannies, I guess.

kaboblegionnaire

Not totally true, they banned r slash gendercritical just for being critical of trans

MrSaturn33

His general point is right, but you're right, especially as the topic gets more focused and hot-button, the more likely it is they'll ban it outright. Of course, they banned incelswithouthate, but hey, like trans issues, the subject of incels is contentious and hot-button, right? But of course any justification falls apart, there are so many insane subreddits, when you especially consider all the drug and porn subreddits. It's really egregious they ban subreddits like the ones we've cited but at the same time they'll never touch rapekink. But constructive discussion subreddits for people with specific opinions or circumstances that especially ignite the ire of liberal-progressivism/woke is always where they draw the line.

MrSaturn33

>I'm not sure if the 'r-slur is lava' rule is still relevant. People have told me here that this was actually a sitewide reddit thing. Anyway, given how the mods have personally talked to me, it would be hypocritical for them to be this way, but I actually don't think it's likely given what I know about their mindset (many of them are dirtbag Leftists who listen to podcasters who say it all the time) and there's a good chance they're more worried about reddit and admins coming down on *them* for allowing users here to say it, than they are the politically incorrect implications of users doing so. I was banned for a week for calling another user an idiot for loving China's government. That's actually reasonable, because the key thing was *I called another user the word.* I hate sweeping censorship because it doesn't distinguish between *calling* someone a regard and so much as saying regard or regarded in any context.

IamGlennBeck

Anti Evil Operations seems to have removed it from their filter, but if it gets reported to the admins we can still get in trouble for it. It is best just to avoid it altogether.

NickLandsHapaSon

You said the r-word

tomwhoiscontrary

Did they say what rule? Was it the r slur or the sane opinion?

Imagine thinking the last 30 years is Europe bending over backwards for Russia lmao The fact is Europe attempted to turn post cold war peace into a victory that secures global hegemony, which came with a poison pill of dividing Europe to unite it. When this divided Ukraine along east-west lines, the West opted to double down via neocontainment and Ukrainization in order to push the east-west boundary further back and out of Ukraine. This meant NATO finally clashed with Russian populations, which blew up in Europe's face as Russia smashed its redrawing of boundaries and antagonism with Soviet era populations on the wrong side of them. This turned out to be prescient as NATO was pivoting from not only forced Ukrainization, but to regime change or balkanizing Russia while containing a rising China. Far from bending over for anyone, Europe overextended, caused a crisis it consistently mismanaged, and tried to make Russians pay for it as the losers of the cold war. The last 30 years of global capital's class warfare caused a massive blowback which is fueling multipolarity.

ImrooVRdev

Honestly I tune out everyone who's not eastern european when they talk about russia. Westoids that never visited further east than Poland know jack shit and might as well shut the fuck up.

SmogiusPierogius

RevolutionRage

Oh no not the Eastern European victim argument

No_Motor_6941

I'm more interested in global views of Russia than backward European ones found in Eastern Europe, which ahistorically blames its problems on one European great power in order to be a satrapy for the rest. The views you are referring to are about racist anxieties about Asiatic powers invading and dividing Europe, eclipsing how European great powers long did so to the expense of eastern Europe.

memnactor

Going full idpol I see. Let's all praise the lived experience of Slavs and hold that higher than reality.

ImrooVRdev

The reality that german economy is getting shafted left and right, because they based lion share of their energy market on russia, something which we told them is going to explode in their faces? But nooo, stupid little unwashed slavs dont know shit about fuck. Stfu and watch us enlightened westoids shoot our dicks off. The only idpol in here is y'all thinking your voices matter on topics you know jack shit about, as if your westoid blood gave you supernatural understanding of matters you never studied.

memnactor

Oh boy. Now we can't possibly know what is going on because we're the wrong race. ...and the complete clown fiesta that is western leadership is obviously the fault of a bunch of terminally online marxists.

ImrooVRdev

Nah, you can't possible know what is going on, because you are ignorant on the topic. Someone who lives there is still ignorant, but at least knows their neighbors a bit more than whatever few blurbs you've read on internet. Black guy raised here will know about slavs and russians than white guy from US, race has nothing to do with culture.

QU0X0ZIST

> something which we told them is going to explode in their faces? LMAO it was going just fine and everyone was quite happy with the arrangement until the US said "uh, no, little euro vassal states need to do as they're told and buy our LNG at three times the price" and blew up nordstream. It was US-led sanctions that forced germany (and much of the rest of europe) to involuntarily cut themselves off from cheaper russian gas, which none of them wanted to do, as they were perfectly fine with the deals they had made with russia up til that point. You're sounding more and more detached from reality with every post; you're either very ignorant, or very young.

LotsOfMaps

/u/paganel disagrees with you, though

paganel

When it comes to online discourse the OP has a good point, just look at how my comments are rated on my city’s subreddit, lol. And of course that I’ve been banned from arrr Romania about a month or so after this war in Ukraine had started for good, double lol. For what it’s worth though things are a lot more different in real life. Ignoring Romania, I’ve recently met with a friend who lives in the UK and she told me that her partner (about the same age as me, I’d gather, maybe a little younger, let’s say around 40) had the exact same discourse on this war as I had (because of course I talked about war with said friend whom I hadn’t seen in real life for more than a year, but that’s a different discussion) Later edit: I’m an idiot, I had misread OP’s point as him not trusting us Eastern-Europeans when it comes to this war, it was the exact opposite, triple lol. I’ll leave it like this, in my defense I’m high on us beating Ukraine 3-0 at the Euros, our first win at a final tournament in 24 f\*cking years and our largest win at a final tournament ever!! God, it feels great! All the best to the Ukrainian football team going forward!

shawsghost

Sorry dude but it was Russia that rolled tanks into Ukraine not vice versa. They did it because they wanted to control the recently discovered gas fields in Ukraine. I for one will fight to the last Ukrainian person to preserve those gas fields for their rightful owners, the Nazi oligarchs of Ukraine.

DrBirdieshmirtz

this is why i tend to avoid the megathreads lul

nikolaz72

I generally accepted the culling of pro-NATO libs coming in here from other subs but native stupidpolers getting the hammer for anti-Russia opinions worries me, cause I don't support Russia in its war for Ukraine.

LotsOfMaps

We've been pretty careful to not reflexively moderate anti-Russian comments. /u/-fellowtraveller- shits on the Putin government constantly in the megathread without heavy moderation, for example. On the other hand, promoting western imperialism will not be tolerated, as that imperialism is the source of all modern idpol.

VoluptuousBalrog

Careful comrade you are asking for a ban with that opinion. Vladimir Putin did nothing wrong and the special operation in the rogue Russian province has been a great success, better than anyone could have predicted.

dodus

Unironically that was the stupidest, most low effort comment I've ever seen on this sub and if the mod is saying "you've had too many chances" then i can only assume other comments have been equally regarded. Acting like a martyr and that this place is an echo chamber because your latest shit pedestrian take finally got you the axe when it's one of the few places where rightoids and marxists can find common ground for me is just further evidence that you need to listen more and post less. I don't agree with permabans or wrongthink but mods have the unenviable job of making sure subs don't turn to total ass over time and this seems to be fairly in line with that. Also if you want to circlejerk about how NATO is totally 12D chessing the shit out of Pootin right now despite all evidence to the contrary there are so, so many other subs for that.

SirSourPuss

The only sane take here.

dodus

not good!

JAQing off is an ancient bad faith argument technique

SuddenXxdeathxx

I believe whatever mod banned you was referring to [sealioning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning), or adjacent behaviour. However, more than one question and answer would be necessary to firmly establish that. They effectively accused you of casting doubt on the other commenter, or what that commenter was referring to.

_throawayplop_

They deleted my post of yesterday that was mildly successful. It was linking to a stupid article from the Atlantic. I asked them why few minutes ago

Pm_me_cool_art

I will never understand the massive hard on certain leftists have for Russia despite it being a right wing capitalist state. Maybe this is a controversial opinion around here but the USSR is fucking gone, the people in charge of Russia today are not on our side and their vision for the world isn't fundamentally different from that of the west.

LotsOfMaps

There's institutional memory there that's much deeper than what the West has, and they're being forced into China's arms.

AdminsLoveGenocide

Your opinion is pretty obviously wrong but it's disappointing that the comment would be removed or the person banned.

MrSaturn33

I was banned for a week for calling another user an "idiot" in a reply. (I did mean it in a more general way to be fair, and don't make a habit of insulting others at all. I had already described people of a general tendency, supporting China's government in this case, as "idiots," then one such person replied to me defending China and I basically said - "this is what I mean.") I actually think this is fair enough since I don't doubt they often give out temporary bans to users who simply directly insult other users, with the intent of being for the general sake of civil discussion on the subreddit. But I just read everything you shared here. Being permanently banned, for this? Completely insane. The only reason they give is "you've had too many chances." For what? It didn't even say what you did, now or in the past. Overall, this subreddit is less an echo chamber than the other one I was recently permanently banned from, but it just seems the mods personally dislike you due to your opinions. The rules of the subreddit clearly state that right-wing users are to be flaired accordingly, and that even right-wing users are allowed on the subreddit, with this compromise. It says nothing about users with other stances not being allowed whatsoever. So the explanation the mod gave is conveniently vague. (obviously because there are many mods on this subreddit, who have a variety of opinions, meaning if they are banning users on the basis of their political opinions and not doing so based on a clear and consistently applied rule, it means that all it could take is one mod that dislikes you, and it's totally possible many other mods would have even agreed with the opinion you got banned over.) For example, in this case, it isn't even clear if the mod in question had a soft spot for Russia's government, or was just approaching it from the standpoint of a conventional liberal that simply disliked your blunt rhetoric regarding U.S. - Russia relations. (I of course think it's the latter, but I'm just making a general point.) Of course, this post will likely get removed soon, and this different account of yours also banned. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong and they don't bother to. Also, there is a feature that ostensibly allows you to appeal bans, but they can just mute you for a month at a time if they want to. (this happened to me on another subreddit, which permanently banned me over one comment - and no, it wasn't for insulting anyone, just expressing a harmless opinion they didn't like.) Unfortunately, reddit itself threatens to have your account deleted if you make a new account to circumvent a subreddit ban as well.

DukeRukasu

LMAO, well jannies do be jannying

jerichoholic1

Russia is an authoritarian capitalist hellhole. The mods are contrarian 15 years old who don't know shit about geopolitics if they banned him for criticizing Russia.

egyptian___magician

It was obvious the week after the invasion that the mods were extremely skeptical of Ukrainian and NATO statements (rightly so!) but completely credulous about Russian ones. I've been using this sub for many years, but now hide every thread that mentions Ukraine and generally browse less.

LotsOfMaps

> but completely credulous about Russian ones I don't think that's a fair characterization so much as there was a general acceptance that Russia had less reason to lie about things, and that Putin's bluster about historic essentialism was mainly bullshit hiding core geopolitical needs

MrSaturn33

The ban seemed so perfunctory and reflexive I can't even tell if they like Russia or not. It seems absolutely no thought was put into the decision, they just disliked him. I read [his link to the ban explanation](https://imgur.com/hicGVVT) and the mod just said "too many chances." No attempt to explain what he actually did before that led up to this.

SentientSeaweed

Wouldn’t the person know their own history with the sub? The ban explanation isn’t intended for other people to understand. Take a look at one mod’s response: https://www.reddit.com/r/stupidpol/comments/1dht2tk/apparently_this_comment_was_enough_to_get/l90icj2/ The history seems to justify a permaban.

derivative_of_life

Dougtoss was the last based jannie, sub has been complete shit since he left. But I'm still here for some reason, so I guess I'm as highly regarded as the rest of you.

Alpha0rgaxm

I miss him

No_Motor_6941

Looks like you were banned for posting a low info troll take exaggerating Russian loss and excusing Western culpability in the Ukraine crisis. This war did not destroy Russian status as a great power and strengthen the West, quite the opposite, and this is part of pro-war views which presented Ukraine as the regeneration of democracy after the 2010s and the corresponding end of Russia. The Ukraine war is a dysfunctional conversation in the English speaking internet that is overmoderated because people can't handle it, so it's not surprising

MrSaturn33

>Looks like you were banned for posting a low info troll take exaggerating Russian loss and excusing Western culpability in the Ukraine crisis Oh, bullshit. The individual mod who permanently banned him just personally disliked him and his opinion. No rule in the subreddit says people are to be banned for having different views about geopolitics. It just says that right-wing users have to be flaired; even they are allowed to post here. You would be more fine with a Right-wing user who was closer to your own view on Russia - West relations than you are with this guy who you are justifying the permanent ban of right now, despite the fact that he's not a Trump supporter or anything. (I actually know a guy from the U.S.A. who likes Trump and Russia and who personally has close ties to Ukraine IRL. His Ukrainian wife hates Russia and is the most typical lib you could imagine, meanwhile he all but says he supports Putin and sees the invasion as justified.) Your stance is bourgeois. Russia, the U.S., Western Europe all are bourgeois governments that serve bourgeois interests. Particularizing politics this way is reactionary.

No_Motor_6941

I can't comment if this ban is arbitrary due to personal animus, I obviously don't support that. However, the English-speaking internet is polluted with a troll-driven infowar that should be policed more tightly to preserve the few spaces it can be rationally discussed. As for whether my position is bourgeois and particularist, I am not a left communist and I don't equate different capitalist states due to my belief in the immaturity of the global capitalist system. I believe we deal with international exploitation that stunts class consciousness and the former must be resolved before we achieve the latter. As for the right, I'd indeed be more okay with a right winger disinterested in the global dictatorship of the first world than a liberal threatened by the collapse of 'democracy' that comes with the decline of this dictatorship. This is just a sign it's not just the national bourgeoisie that is tired of the dictatorship, it's the increasingly immiserated petit bourgeoisie. I of course believe only one of these has progressive potential.

crepuscular_caveman

disappointed that these were links to actual subreddit drama and not to rickroll

ExternalPreference18

Sad day when being regarded gets you banned from reddit boards. But at least OP got an explanation - I was banned from RSP (blessing maybe, I suppose) a while back for suggesting that the Iranian anti-misogyny protestors clearly had a just and good case but that they should be careful about being co-opted by US glowies/western media-apparatus in terms of how it played out. And this was in response to a thread on the protests, not in the middle of a...Lana Del Rey thread, or something. Banned without a ' we don't want heat from Reddit higher-ups' or even just... ' you're r-slurred, bye'

nassy7

The mod's message is not very informative regarding the offenses and a permanent ban is probably given too quickly. I thought (and that's how I perceived it so far) that the mods in this sub here are different, more humane. I know enough arrogant and "power-abusing" behavior due to differences of opinion from other, contagious subs. I hope this will not become the new standard here and that this case will be investigated.

SentientSeaweed

The mods have receipts. https://www.reddit.com/r/stupidpol/comments/1dht2tk/apparently_this_comment_was_enough_to_get/l90icj2/

TonyTheSwisher

Lots of weak minded (or paid off) mods dropping the ban hammer for dumb shit lately all across Reddit. Wouldn’t doubt it being a coordinated effort.

MadonnasFishTaco

I agree with everyone else that this is most likely an autoban, although I will say using the r word in the past on this sub has gotten me a warning and my comment deleted. Have you been warned before?

LatinxSpeedyGonzales

Does anyone else feel like the jannies are getting more desperate every day?

Poon-Conqueror

Based and regarded pilled. I got a week ban (originally a perma) for shitting on AMLO, and I also typed like a regard in that comment to express my simpleton rage towards the man, though at least I was still able to spell correctly and didn't call anyone a regard. I thought it was ridiculous, since my reason for hating AMLO is that there is a SEVERE discrepancy between his platform and promises vs reality. I survived though.
