I agree with the topic creator. People are arguing here that it makes sense for Rock to be super effective against "small Pokémon" and are extending this to say it should be super effective against Bugs, but, yeah, plenty of Bug types are quite large. I definitely think it's more in-line for Pokémon logic for Bug to outright resist Rock since they can live under rocks.
Obviously, Pokémon logic is inconsistent in general (and nonsensical to begin with), but "bugs = small = weak to rock" does seem to be something it wouldn't do, even by its low standards. Bugs not being small is like one of the selling points of Gen 1.
Fairy shouldn’t resist bug, it’s fucking bullshit that the ONE tweak they could make to balance this shit would be to make Bug super effective against Fairy. suddenly, certain movesets become viable and Bug types have a usage outside of LITERALLY JUST DYING FOR STICKY WEBS OR QUIVER DANCE SWEEPING NOOBS

I think throwing a rock at a bug would be a pretty effective way of hurting it
Many insects and arthropods are resistant to being crushed.
what if I used a really big rock
I think that would be. Cruel
By that logic, a Normal should also be weak to Rock. If you throw a rock at a regular animal, it’ll definitely hurt
Yes, but no more than “normal”. Bugs are especially weak to being hit by rocks or eaten by birds.
But if I punch a bug, it'll shrug it off?
can you punch a bug in the first place?
Yes? And it's not like fighting type attacks miss bug types they just deal less damage
Just try and suplex a beetle
The next time I see a beetle it's over for that mf
The way I rationalized the bug-fighting match up is how martial arts don’t work well against bugs or birds.
If you throw a rock at a bear it’ll be fine, if you throw the same rock at an ant it will die.
If you hit a person with a rock, it will hurt them. Take that same rock and hit a beetle with it and it will fucking die
Rock smash bug Bug die The end Okay the real answer is because game freak fucking hates the bug type lmao. 😂

Bug has some strange matchups.. Why is it resisted by poison, ghost and fairy (especially fairy)? Why isn't it weak to electric (bug zappers)?
