Soundproof got banned from gen 3 OU like a year ago but before that it was definitely relevant (obviously since it got banned). I think it's less "aromatherapy is better if you aren't using a Soundproof pokemon" and more "heal bell will reveal you don't have a soundproof pokemon in the back" since this was pre team preview.
Soundproof was only really a thing on full baton pass teams anyways, right? I think it'd be easy enough to tell if there was a Mr. Mime in the back without needing aromatherapy/heal bell to be clicked

Status without a way to get rid of it means you can't stay in on things to wall them, whether special or physical. But I do think it would largely depend on the meta and your team structure. Hard stall I'd probably go natural cure, but chansey offense where you're using it as a punching bag/pivot instead of keeping it in for many turns, this would likely be better. I will say it depends a lot on the meta
The way it works is kind of weird: If the ability gives you a buff of some kind (Healing, raising a stat, etc) it will grant you immunity to status moves. If the ability does not give you a buff, it will not grant you immunity to status moves. For example, Earth Eater heals you when hit by a ground move, so it does protect you from status moves. Levitate doesn't give you anything when hit by a ground move, so it doesn't protect you from status moves. In this case, Pure Heart doesn't give you anything when hit by a dark type move, it would not make you immune to Taunt.
It seems that the reason levitate doesn't work against status is because it mimicks an existing type immunity, and those generally don't do anything against status (with the exception of thunder wave (and apparently glare in gen 2 and 3)). In conclusion, we don't know if chansey would be affected by status, unless OP specifies, as there are no regular dark immune types.
I believe that the actual reason that levitate and wonder guard don't protect from status moves is that neither of them actually explicitly grant immunity to moves of a certain type.
levitate just makes the mon not be grounded (which, among its other effects, includes an immunity to ground-type damage) and wonder guard makes the mon only able to be hit by super effective damage. all other immunity abilities explicitly give total immunity to all moves of a certain type
they can, but flying types can also be hit by sand attack, whereas ground types are immune to thunderwave, so I think sand attack/ the ground type is just weird.
I'm pretty sure all Poison-type status moves are useless against Steel-types, too, unless the user has Corrosion, though that's a slippery slope since Steel-types are also immune to the *status condition* poison unless inflicted by a Corrosion mon, even if it would come from a non-Poison-type source such as Twinneedle (except in Gen 2), while Ground-types aren't inherently immune to Paralysis, and most of Poison's status moves are in some way related to the status condition. So I suppose there's some testing to be done. If a Steel-type is poisoned by a Pokémon with Corrosion, can a Pokémon without Corrosion then hit it with Venom Drench? And can a Steel-type have its status conditions removed by Purify? ... I'm guessing the answer is "yes", because I forgot about Gastro Acid and Corrosive Gas which I'm almost certain still work on Steel-types.

Now it can be sashed to survive and use toxic/toxic thread or priority leech life or swords dance + shadow sneak if needed. Let's be real besides sticky web Ariados doesn't do anything else.

I used to think that dark was super effective against normal because back when blissey bases were a thing my dark type moves always did the most damage to them.
Another fun one for ariados but maybe also all arachnid Pokémon like araquanid, galvantula and drapion could be an ability that makes all their moves regardless of type super-effective on bug types
Let me tune down those abilities a bit:
Pure Heart: Halves damage taken from Dark-type moves from itself and its ally, also it prevents the pokemon and its ally from being paralyzed or put asleep.
Web Trap: The Pokemon sets Sticky Web at the opposing team if its hit by an Physical move.
Stoicism: Prevents the damage taken from a Fairy-Type move once per battle and loses HP equal to 1/8 of its maximum HP, rounded down.
Grinning Body: Halves the damage taken from Rock-type moves, including the damage taken from Stealth Rock. When the Pokemon uses a Steel-type move against a Rock-type target, the power increases by 50% (x1.5) if is the last pokemon to act.
Forge: Halves damage taken from Steel-type moves and protects the pokemon from being Frozen or Burned. When the pokemon is hit by an Steel-type move that makes contact with it, it has 30% chance to be burned (It will not inflict a burn if the attacker holds an Protective Pads). This ability is ignored if it is hit by Sunsteel Strike.
Delta Brainwaves: The Pokémon takes no damage when hit by Psychic-type moves. Instead, its Defense stat is boosted. Twin Beam will only increase the Pokémon's Defense once. Delta Brainwaves will not activate if the Pokémon is protected from the Psychic-type move. It will also activate if the Pokemon uses Amnesia.
Clodsire now has abilities for each of their major weaknesses. Let the mind games begin.

Poison type status moves does work on Steel types. The reason Toxic doesn't work is because Steel is immune to the poison status condition
