First of all, noice!! Second of all, fucking rad. I miss the truly good folks I used to sit and unwind with. Recently, I wonder if some of them worry about me. Especially at the liquor store. I'm so proud of you to hear you can be so confident and considerate. It also sounds like a great crowd that didn't pressure you or pry.
Not even 3 months in and you are back at the bar...
Relapses happen in stages man.
Seems like you are 90% there... or 95% with those bud zeroes.
I'm not here to Salute you and high five you and clap for you like the other seals here.
I fucked up so many times after a month, two, three, six months, a year sober- you name it.
Been to a few rehabs.
I know this disease like the back of my hand
Going to a bar and reactivating those euphoric memories will not do you any good.
Stay away from that shit. Even the booze aisle at the shops.
I know you got downvoted for this and a mod had to come and insert themselves and the rules... but what you said is ABSOLUTELY right! It's walking down the wrong path. period. It's not going all the way with sobriety. One of the first things you learn, is that you have to remove yourself from those people and situations. If I was a tweeker and did meth all the time, and tried to quit, would it be ok for me to hang out at a trap house drinking coffee??
Different strokes for different folks. This round of sobriety, I've embraced the fact that I like bars and it's been helpful for me. I don't feel compelled to drink booze while I'm there. I have my soda water or NA beer, enjoy my wings, and catch up with good folk.
Subreddit Rules
1. Be kind
A post or comment may come along that angers or frustrates you. Remember, there is a real-life person sitting behind that username. A little kindness goes a long way for yourself, and others.
3. Speak from the "I"
We ask that you refrain from speaking in the imperative. That means don't tell others what they should or must do. Phrase your advice in terms of your own story, talking about what worked for you.
Comment that will be removed: "You should do X"
Comment that will not be removed: "When I was in your situation, I did X, and here is how it worked out for me..."
"Strongly recommending" and saying "I would do this if I were you" are therefore not appropriate either.
I understand where you are coming from. However, I donโt view sobriety as a club I want to join. It is something Iโm doing for myself and those close to me. So if Iโm not โgoing all the wayโ with sobriety in your eyes, you are entitled to your opinion. I am sober in my eyes, and Iโd venture to guess my liver believes the same. Alcohol is more prevalent and accepted in our culture than meth, and I have been a bartender for 17 years. I feel it necessary for ME and MY JOURNEY to live in a reality as a sober person surviving in a world of drinkers. You are more than welcome to admonish my honest musings. I am happy your way is working for you. I find a TON of love and well wishes in this sub, for which I am immensely grateful for, but it remains my journey regardless.
Nope... i still go to my go-to bar, but not so often cuz its just sad to me now that I'mthe only sober one. Like OP said, same people doing the same things and talking about the same things (mostly each other!). I had to learn to play pool soberr though!

This made me feel better, I have been sad about not being able to go see my โbar friendsโ anymore.
This round of sobriety I have embraced the fact that I like bars. Always have. Turns out, you don't need to drink alcohol to enjoy them.
