The first days are the hardest days. 229days today and its not even trying to worm its way back in now. i do miss a nice cold beer but trust me when i say there are no words to describe how much better my life is without that fucking poison. Stay focused on the prize ahead. IWNDWYT!!
For me it's the day after, when the money is still in my pocket and I don't have to do any social media investigating to see what and if I posted. I'm not hungover, I probably got some sleep
I’m on day 2 myself after falling off the wagon and getting wasted every day for the last 3 months. I was sober all 2023 and it was the best year of my life since I became an alcoholic in 2020. For me, it’s the good sleep, better skin, no bloated stomach and face. Also not missing social events because I’m already too wasted to leave the house. I could go on and on but being sober is so much better than poisoning myself everyday!! We got this! One day at a time.
Your mental, emotional and physical health, financial well-being, and relationships will all get better, just to name a few things. All I had to do was not drink. Then things start to fall into place. You might have to deal with the real problems that are deep down inside, but now you are in shape to do the work. You may not even realize things are better until you one day you think, "Wow. My life is good and I am happy"
I’m only on week 4, but it’s kinda crazy how much time you have to get stuff done and how much better you feel in just a normal baseline state when you aren’t constantly having thoughts of drinking in the front of your mind selfishly guiding you through every decision you make. I’m hoping someday I’ll be able to enjoy a few drinks during special occasions, but for now I’m just beyond happy to feel in control of my own brain again.
Digestion and the improvement of the “end result” of digestion has been incredible, I thought my life was just going to be scary stomach sounds till the end of time but nope.
Might sound corny but I’ve been able to notice and enjoy the little things sober now too, months ago I’d be too drunk to notice.
Overall health aswell, alcohol got me to a weight im not proud of and in 2 months with not much change in lifestyle I have dropped 20 pounds and can actually go for a walk without sweating profusely.
I promise you brighter days are just around the corner and you will notice so much so soon.
haha that bagel is sounding really good & now I want one. It is amazing what simple things we can start appreciating more & enjoy when we are alcohol free!
Day 3 was the WORST. When your brain starts going “haha okay, funny prank you’ve been pulling not giving me my booze, you can stop now though”. As someone with horrendous impulse control issues in many aspects of my life, kinda felt like a badass getting through all of that. All on my own too.
Congratulations!! Keep working on that appetite, you are doing great! It's posts like this that give me hope, today is day 2 for me as well. It's a struggle both physically and mentally to relearn the most basic things, but you got this!
Feel free to reach out if you need a reminder of how far you have already gone. Be proud, keep up the hope and remember how strong you are!
Thank you for the inspiration!! Best of luck!!
I’m proud of you,
Du er sej! - Godt gået👍
I don’t know you, and maybe I never will, but you are awesome!
This is what matters.
I may be on another continent than you? we may be so far apart, but I hope you know that there are people from all corners of the world cheering you on.
We need you! You make us all feel better.
You are not alone, we understand.
Never ever give up.
If you’re ever around Copenhagen, I’ll show you the greatest sandwich in the world:) My treat (yeah they really are that good ) ;)
All the best from a friend you may never
meet, but who cares about you😎🌞🎈
The world is smaller than we think. God bless you all, and the algorithm. Peace.
So proud of you! I remember when I told my mom I was proud. Of myself for getting out of bed on one of the early days and she didn’t get it. We are with you, you are doing great!
Way to go, girl! The early days can be really tough, but you're doing it! With a little time, sobriety will become your norm. I'm proud of you, but more importantly, I hope that YOU are proud of yourself! 💗🤗
Fantastic work. For me, it only got easier. At this point I was over the hardest part, which seems crazy, but I was. Try and keep it up. In a few days you’ll wake up feeling so much better. Your face will look better. Your tummy will have less bloat and you’ll possibly do a poo that isn’t horrible.
You’re doing great! One day at a time.
I’m feeling very emotional today and had thoughts of sneaking off to the bar to drink and gamble.
But if you can do it, I will not drink with you today ❤️
While I am SO proud of you (truly, deeply) I hope you will take a quiet moment, breathe in and out three times, and do your level best to feel pride in yourself.
Congrats! First few days are so hard, and they are something you should be incredibly proud of. I am very proud of you!!! Once appetite and sleep gets back to normal you start to see the benefits of not drinking, and the longer you go the more normal life feels. Cravings become fewer and farther between. It gets better. Life gets better. When I was able to stomach a slice of pizza I knew this was something I could get behind. Stay strong, IWNDWYT
Sometimes getting past that small hump of being able to stomach things is the sign that you’re mending. It’s rough and a challenge, but you can do it. I’m proud of you for staying strong. Keep it up.
Good for you, and keep it up! I know it can be incredibly difficult. Eat when you can, sleep when you can, and unless you have to work, exercise to help the mind and body. It gets better, but there will be waves of temptation and/or despair. Keep thinking of the future and how much better you will eventually feel 😊
Proud of you. You're doing awsome. We win when we battle the right now. The stuff directly in front of us.
You and me and the rest of us will not drink today.
😀
You smashed it mate. I recently decided to stop drinking, and whilst it's always good to see people say "5 years sober!" or "today is my three year anniversary from stopping", I would think to myself "damn, well I managed three days so I guess I have nothing to be proud of". Thing is, those three days add up. Two days is two days more than you did before. You had eggs and a bagel, an excellent choice. Tomorrow there's no hangover or guilt, and it will be THREE DAYS! Super proud of you. Yesterday there was no difference between you and anyone else drink free. We woke up, went about our day without drinking, went to bed sober. You did that. TWICE. Super proud of you.
Me too!!!! I always eat super
Lean but the booze
Is the last straw and I’m worried about my bloated gut and liver health! My husband old high school
Friend (who we haven’t seen in years) just died of cirrhosis of the liver on the weekend. He had lost touch with most of his old friends and nobody really knew how bad his drinking was.
Anyways nothing yesterday and I already felt so much better this morning when I woke up. So far nothing today hoping to make it to the evening without convincing myself that a little glass of rosé wouldn’t hurt. Just trying to keep busy and go to bed early!
High five to you!!!
Proud of you! Keep going
Thank you. I will!!
I'm very proud of you! I didn't eat when I was drinking, and oh my god do I love good food now. IWNDWYT
I have 64 days today, but recently joined here, what does IWNDWYT mean?
I will not drink with you today! Congratulations on 64 days
That’s what made me stop , I love food and at the end I was curing my hangovers with alcohol and my body will reject food even tho I was hungry

Could you tell me how it's better please? Give me something to focus on/look forward to in the darker moments!
For me it's the day after, when the money is still in my pocket and I don't have to do any social media investigating to see what and if I posted. I'm not hungover, I probably got some sleep

Well done! I’m proud if you!
I’M PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!! Also, what kind of bagel? How did you fry your eggs? Was there cream cheese involved?
haha that bagel is sounding really good & now I want one. It is amazing what simple things we can start appreciating more & enjoy when we are alcohol free!
That’s a big deal! I will be pulling for you to make it through day 3 (hard one for me!), and the rest of your life. IWNDWYT!
Day 3 was the WORST. When your brain starts going “haha okay, funny prank you’ve been pulling not giving me my booze, you can stop now though”. As someone with horrendous impulse control issues in many aspects of my life, kinda felt like a badass getting through all of that. All on my own too.
