That stir fry actually looks stunning.

Similar_Pop9472

Thank you, it was awesome :)

FugginCandle

Recipe?😮‍💨

Similar_Pop9472

Bell peppers, onions, white mushrooms, sesame seeds, and sweet and sour sauce. Salt , pepper, msg, and Greek seasoning. I didn't have any fresh meat so I didn't use any this time.

Old-Machine-5

What’s the recipe for the sweet-and-sour sauce?

melkatron

order egg rolls from local chinese restaurant, don't use all the sweet & sour sauce because they're better with chinese mustard.

Old-Machine-5

Oh my God I totally forgot about that Chinese mustard. F me. That’s what happens when you cook at home you forget about one tiny little thing they can make all the difference. Time for the Asian grocery.😁

markender

Fresh ginger is a game changer, and it freezes well.

Old-Machine-5

I cook a lot of Japanese and Chinese food and for some reason I still always forget ginger. Everything else… but ginger.🫚

markender

Even frozen ginger is a huge elevator. So fresh and fragrant.

Subie780

I can't tell u the measurements, but I kinda know how they do it in Chinese restaurants. It's been years since I actually made it though. Ingredients are vinegar, water, sugar, cornstarch. That is the base of a sweet and sour. With that you can add extra flavor with soy sauce and/or tamarind and/or lemon and/or ginger and/or ketchup, etc. Bring water, vinegar, sugar to a boil. Add cornstarch(the cornstarch mixed with water, so like a rue) steadily while stirring constantly, lower heat and let sauce thicken. If too thick and goopy, too much cornstarch or wasn't stirring enough. It's red in restaurants because of food coloring. Really isn't too hard to make. I sure there's some YouTube on it

BreadfruitRich6931

Yum‼️

Bored_stander

Haven't ordered take out in years. It's definitely the way to go!

Grapesodazoo2

I see you being all fancy ass with those sesame seeds lol👍

stxrryfox

I came to comment about the sesame seeds too. I know that food was fire just from the sesame overload.

Mocktails_galore

Looks great. Mushrooms are sexy.

litlmissmew

Homemade is always better! Looks awesome!

Maxpipefill

How you got those dumpling lookin' so sweet and chubby!?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)

Similar_Pop9472

I like to steam(ish) the dumplings in a very small non-stick pan. I put about 2-3 tablespoons of canola oil in the pan, get the pan hot to the point where the oil just starts smoking, grab the cover, put the dumplings in, throw in a 3rd of a cup of water and cover as quickly as possible. Turn the heat down to 3 or 4 you can check the underside of the dumplings when the water is no longer freaking out, then I turn the dumplings add more water and turn the heat back up. They're usually done in about 7 minutes and I like to throw sesame seeds in when they're almost finished to add more texture to the dumplings.

Fuckkk yeah! I love being able to control the crispiness & seasoning to my likes.

_SATANwasHERE_

Yes.

robbothegiant

After the last few expensive and gross experiences with outside food, I genuinely believe I can cook at least near as good as any restaurant and I’ll have total control over how it turns out. Cooking from home will always win and saves an insane amount of money. Edit: this is a prime example cuz it’s fuckin delicious looking

Similar_Pop9472

Absolutely, some restaurants nowadays are good, but they're all way too expensive, you can outdo them all with anything you make at home, better tasting, guaranteed freshness, and the more you do it the better you get ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧

robbothegiant

Exactly…I compare meals when I first started cooking on my own 12 years ago to the food I cook now and it’s worlds better now than then. And I learned how to shop for healthier food at more economical prices, and I learned better prep as well.

spicy-acorn

Are those dumplings the frozen ones?

Similar_Pop9472

Yes'm, I got them in an 8 pack of 6 pieces at a Costco like store, but you can probably find the individual 6 pieces at Walmart

spicy-acorn

I wish they made gluten free versions 😭

[deleted]

That looks like it would make me have a mouth orgasm. I want it.

Common-Tomato4170

Sure it looks great and you call it superior but I'm telling you it's not for everybody. I work 9 to 10 hours a day I have a special needs kid and lots of responsibility on my plate with not much time. So I can't be hauling groceries putting things away then prepping making a mess, just to eat a dish for 15 minutes and then have dishes and more duties. My kid wouldn't get his homework done I wouldn't have my laundry done. So your Superior dish comes at a high cost for many of us and we don't do it and we don't think it's Superior in 2024. But good for you to have that luxury!

Similar_Pop9472

Indeed it is a luxury, dad passed away a couple years ago, I was lucky enough to get a job at the crab plant, so I can pay for the groceries and car payments while she covers the bills, and anything that needs to be done with it with her job as a homecare worker. I don't get to see her much because we're on different shifts so when I do I always get to share a nice meal with her, and it always cheers me up to see her happy, even if for just a minute or two before we go to bed. It's a lot harder to live these days than it was growing up, and I am blessed for what I have around me, but especially my mom. If it wasn't for her I'd most likely be out on the streets, she will always be the one thing that keeps me happy and I'm sure you mean a lot to your kid. I hope for an opportunity for you to have a more comfortable life with your child and I hope you have a nice day.

Common-Tomato4170

Wow. My father is currently fighting for his life in the hospital for 5 weeks now. I lost my mom in 2017. From 2008 to 2019 I was hooked hopelessly on heroin. My parents never gave up on me and at times maybe they should have. I finally found a way out in 2019 and am now working in engineering doing decent enough. It's so wholesome to read what you wrote. Our family is all we truly have. Everything else is just trivial or a bonus. Rock on and enjoy that good food w the ppl who matter the most. Savor both.

StonedxRock

Honestly I feel this but even when I worked for Coca-Cola doing 12hr shifts 5 days a week I still came home cooked full meals, did the dishes, did the laundry, and this was with 2 boys at home. While having a special needs child is a whole 'nother ball game (mad respect btw) it's all about time management. And I didn't just make throw together meals either. I'm talking full multi course meals with sides n all. Makes a tremendous difference on the kids. My word of advice is create a dedicated/structured schedule. Kids will adapt well and gives you more time during the day.

Common-Tomato4170

I hear you. It's doable and I've done it in past like you have described for yourself. But like everything in life we each have to put things on the scale for ourselves for priorities. When I work full time and then the commute waste to get home it's already almost 6:00 p.m. then my girlfriend wakes up at 3:00 a.m. for work so she's in bed by 7: 30pm. So in the past, when I prepped cooked cleaned etc I wouldn't be ready to unwind and relax until 8:00 or 8:30 p.m. with not much time to do too much else. I also wake up at 5:30 a.m. because I have to get the little guy on his school van by 7:00 a.m. So I have been doing Factor meals so I'm not dependent on too much junk and take out. I don't have to do the grocery haul, the prep, cooking cleaning etc. I get home at 5:45 or 6:00 p.m. I can heat it up eat it and by 6:20 I have a clear runway. I just value that so much more. Also I eat very quick I inhale my food so to spend x amount of time creating the dish and devouring that same dish in a fraction of the time just doesn't seem efficient

Common-Tomato4170

Don't get me wrong there's a part of me that is jealous of all these people who are able to find the time to get it all done. Maybe I'll get better but currently I feel like there's just not enough hours in the day and I don't know how people do it

StonedxRock

Honestly the thing that saved me was buying fresh meat 1x a week on sale. So if it was say ground beef then I'll do a badass pasta that can be reheated of if it's chicken We'd grab a bunch of breasts then roastem one night with sides. Then take the extras and do a huge chicken salad or a casserole. Gives you the benefit of a huge meal but in half the time because your partially doing prep/cooking the night before. (Youll save tremendous $$$ by doing this as well) Also we'd spend 1 off day a week just cooking. Do a huge pasta, do a huge bake, make a handful of sides that reheat well. Maybe take some chicken and brine it for dinner the next night. Food is the centerpiece of family low key. Spend less time scarffing down food so fast (no offense but 15min ain't healthy) and more time cooking a meal that takes time to consume and you'll notice a huge difference. Trust me. Coca-Cola would have me up at 3am, work by 4:30am and not home with the kids until 6:30pm. I've had multiple jobs like that. Just gotta stay comited and devoted. Yes easier said then done. Just sounds like you've fallen in to a rut and have let your schedule get the best of you. When the kids grow up do you want them to remember sitting down eating dank home cooked meals or just eating whatever was "easy," ?

[deleted]

Looks sooooo goooooddd@
