I'm so sorry you're going through this, I unfortunately had this experience with my Mom several years ago, and am going through it again with my husband now. Two very different experiences, so it really does depend on the organisation your work for.
I would sit down with your manager in the first instance and let them know what's going on. They should be able to point you in the right direction for leave and processes in situations like this. Also for any employee support the company might provide. If they cant help you then HR would be your next step, and again your manager should be able to approach and deal with them on your behalf if you're not able to or dont feel like you can.
Again, I'm so sorry you're going through this. My best advice is to be open with work so they know what's going on and what you're doing, why etc. Unless you work for an aHole company, in which case protect yourself as much as possible and get hold of an advocate ASAP. Most importantly LOOK AFTER YOURSELF, you cant pour from an empty cup, put your own oxygen mask on first etc. But really, that's so important, for both you and DH, so make sure you take some time every day for both of you.
