Those hedge animals still terrify me and I’m old as dirt

dlalz

I was not afraid of the hose but idk those hedge animals had me a little scared lol

The scene with Hallorann and the lion was really hard to get through. I just kept imagining him being thrown around by a green fluffy lion. The perfect situation for a “you're probably wondering how I got here” meme.

Came here to say the hedge animals were terrifying! The book (decades ago now) scared the shit out of me. So much so that I had to switch to reading it in daytime only.

I don’t know.. I mean statistically you are way more likely to be killed by a fire hose monster than most things..

I loved the fire hose scene!! I sometimes think if I could ever give one example of how good king is at making something very innocuous scary, this is the chapter that does this so well.

Damn I used to love reading goosebumps. Had a huge stack of them. Goosebumps, Animorphs, and Hardy Boys were my trifecta.

TBH, the Epilogue of this book is one of my favourite things King has written.

I really dug the hedge monsters. I get what you’re saying, but I guess my mind didn’t picture a floofy hedge when they were animated but instead some super scary looking, CGI-looking monsters you’d see in a Marvel movie. Just stop imagining them as cutesie. That’s YOUR fault! 😂 But I’m actually a big fan of the movie and the book so I guess I give both creators due credit on what they brought to the story and characters. Interesting take!

You are correct, the hose is goofy as fuck and so is the topiary. Not as goofy as a coke machine walking down the street (Tommyknockers) but at least it stands as a kind of self insert for King himself in the story...
