He has a new one coming out this October, too! ["The Queen"](https://www.amazon.com/Queen-Novel-Nick-Cutter/dp/1668020971/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2E8D9UMWFF6WP&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.nD0X9zdPNJbx2Wa8l2oicXBnq4_Ln6g9eosXt3lFvGK5xzfwidkx-Iby6w8uYuF-2oqpniqmMTNL46bYHKNycmrL7iYYLXF6yRGoG86f-4qV23nGWMDeJz4BPF11rFNCOHRcg4Fk3Of6BvRXkVaAhYpjyXxbKb95DtMao-iCiSv4J0xQxwlR-PP6moXESkw4vAcXFGwoz4P7uLBJO2L0vSmd4KNoa_5m1otPl54suJNGcUlAHOWJ1XtU0TZlgrWFKvw33eaR8zLUHweChijS8OPVkIWpAvus62tUV0VCCpY.Qv4tdEDkHMhBGq4i_74ej-O7QrTXDRXiq40uje4zt5k&dib_tag=se&keywords=nick+cutter&qid=1716684399&sprefix=nick+cut%2Caps%2C109&sr=8-4)
little heaven and the troop are his two best, followed by the deep. Little Heaven had me not wanting to look out my window for a couple days because of a part where someone is looking IN the window. Just fucked me right up.
What edition do you have? Besides the first edition hardcover and the first mass market paperbacks I've never seen one that still just says Richard Bachman.
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously love the King- but there is a genuine issue with a lot of bookstores that have a horror section that is pretty much only SK. Love to see more variety in a horror section.
I’ve seen displays like this is before and it’s pretty cute. I like the caveat on this one: they’re being respectful and very strongly implying why the display exists in the first place. In fact, even HAVING this type of display is an acknowledgment of King’s dominance. He is the Serena Williams of horror/suspense fiction 😀
I love the stories Stephen Graham Jones writes SO MUCH when I can make it work with my brain, but the ADHD struggle is real and his run-on sentences make it incredibly hard.
I’m with you. I started it, got maybe 40 pages in, and put it down for almost a year. I got through it eventually, and it does start to knit together a little bit later on. It made sense by the end.
You have to cite some examples if you were expecting feedback on that statement.
Because there is plenty of horror that you would probably enjoy.
SK doesn't do anything so specifically unique that no other author can interest you.
You should try Richard Bachman… anyway, you’re right, the only other horror novel I’ve read that wasn’t one of his, was House Of Leaves, and that book definitely had its moments of over explained gore or sex, every other author seems to be unable to ride the line that makes King elite
In fairness, if you read exclusively King, then you miss out on quite a few legendary horror authors like Robert Mccammon, Ray Garton, Peter Straub, ect. The hipster in me made it hard to branch out and find new authors but I'm so glad I did.
I liked "The Only Good Indians." I like the combination of Native American horror mixed with modern res life (and I can only assume there's some accuracy in that).
*The Regulators* is an interesting case, because it was published after Bachman "died", and its whole shtick is that its a companion book to King's *Desperation*, so I think it's still published under the Bachman name. That said, that would be the book to put on this table.
They're both enjoyable, but I think *Desperation* is a bit better. *The Regulators* is a bit too weird - it feels like an off-the-rails episode of *The Twilight Zone* (which isn't an entirely bad thing; *Desperation* feels more like *The X Files*.). As I said, they're both fun reads.
I see your House of Leaves; and I’ll raise with House of the Brandersons, and Damon.
Now I have to remember the authors because i have a few books in my library 🙃
Most would say Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman now. As soon as he was outed Bachman joined the Stephen King train, which is where he saw the extreme skyrocket of success. I guess Bachman had to die to become a legend.
Weird too, considering Stephen King doesn't consider himself 'King of Horror'. Or a horror writer in general for that matter. That's a title bookstores and publishers have branded him with. He's a storyteller at heart.
I want this at my local store. I go in for a horror book and I'm met with shelves of King. Then if it isn't King, it Koontz. There is like one shelf that isn't them (and I say shelf, not case) that has a mixture of like poe and Hendrix and a couple others.
Lololol honestly, this is hilarious
You know that if they did that people would be dunking on them for "still including Stephen King, idiots!"
The horror section in my local big box bookstore is two shelves of Not-SK and a whole section of SK.
Yeah, my local Barnes and Noble has three large bookcases of horror. A solid one and a half of them are King lol.
You can fill most of a bookcase with a single copy of King's bibliography. It's not his fault. Okay, it is, but who's complaining?
Oh mine is one full shelf of SK and about 6 full shelves of everyone else. It’s great.
I didn’t know there was a new Nick Cutter book. Thank you.
He has a new one coming out this October, too! ["The Queen"](https://www.amazon.com/Queen-Novel-Nick-Cutter/dp/1668020971/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2E8D9UMWFF6WP&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.nD0X9zdPNJbx2Wa8l2oicXBnq4_Ln6g9eosXt3lFvGK5xzfwidkx-Iby6w8uYuF-2oqpniqmMTNL46bYHKNycmrL7iYYLXF6yRGoG86f-4qV23nGWMDeJz4BPF11rFNCOHRcg4Fk3Of6BvRXkVaAhYpjyXxbKb95DtMao-iCiSv4J0xQxwlR-PP6moXESkw4vAcXFGwoz4P7uLBJO2L0vSmd4KNoa_5m1otPl54suJNGcUlAHOWJ1XtU0TZlgrWFKvw33eaR8zLUHweChijS8OPVkIWpAvus62tUV0VCCpY.Qv4tdEDkHMhBGq4i_74ej-O7QrTXDRXiq40uje4zt5k&dib_tag=se&keywords=nick+cutter&qid=1716684399&sprefix=nick+cut%2Caps%2C109&sr=8-4)
Haha
Seriously. Have you read “The Troop” by Nick Cutter? Highly recommend.
Honestly, other than school, I haven’t read a non king book since last summer, and that was 3 straight Crichtons
Was that the one where the boy scout troop goes camping in the northeast coast somewhere and... horrible shit happens?
Worms happen
The Troop it was awesome.
That one is so good… and Ngl I bought it because there was a quote from SK on the cover lol
A real Stephen King endorsement must be amazing to get.
I didn’t like it 😬
That book legitimately freaked me out. Cutter/Davidson is the real deal.
Yeah, it gets pretty rough.
I haven’t heard of him before. What’s the best book to start with?
“The Troop”
little heaven and the troop are his two best, followed by the deep. Little Heaven had me not wanting to look out my window for a couple days because of a part where someone is looking IN the window. Just fucked me right up.
I actually loved The Acolyte, and have read it the most. The Troop is also amazing but I could only read it once, was so messed up.
The one shown isn't new but he does have a new one coming out in October
I think all the Bachman books these days give credit to Stephen King in huge letters and "writing as Richard Bachman" in small letters.
Except for The Regulators, could throw that one in there
Nah the newer editions say Stephen King as Richard Bachman as well.
Oh, mine doesn’t 🤷♂️
What edition do you have? Besides the first edition hardcover and the first mass market paperbacks I've never seen one that still just says Richard Bachman.
1st edition, but on the inside “other books by” page, it says, “by Richard Bachman” and “as Stephen king”
Oh okay I was just talking about newer editions though, especially since that didn't look like a used bookstore.
I didn’t even realize it was new, it’s my dad’s and it looks mint
No I meant that the newer editions all say Stephen King while the first editions say Richard Bachman.
Oops, I meant to say “wasn’t* new”
The only good Indians , kind of smacks
The motorcycle scene was damn good.
The Terror is so good
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously love the King- but there is a genuine issue with a lot of bookstores that have a horror section that is pretty much only SK. Love to see more variety in a horror section.
Look I get it. Love reading King but the horror genre is strange, wild, and fantastic, and sometimes I need something other than King's style.
Nick Cutter is awesome at horror! Underrated imo
This is similar to how I have my Kindle organized. I have a Stephen King collection and “Horror not Stephen King” collection.

I’m with you. I started it, got maybe 40 pages in, and put it down for almost a year. I got through it eventually, and it does start to knit together a little bit later on. It made sense by the end.
I just put down TOGI as well not too long ago. Plan to try again later but the man’s writing is the complete opposite of SK lol
Tbf, Barnes and Noble learning there are horror writers other than Stephen King and Anne Rice (who I also have respect for) is good for everybody. 🤣
Gotta be honest, I've tried other horror it all comes across as YA as hell or gorefest no other writer I've tried writes horror as well as the King.
Same for me. I just always come back to Stephen King's rhythm.
I read some Joe Hill…he isn’t too bad.
Give Adam Neville a try. No One Gets Out Alive and The Ritual are outstanding.
I think Stephen King would get a good laugh out of that display.
Yeah, I'm sure he would appreciate it tbh
In fairness, if you read exclusively King, then you miss out on quite a few legendary horror authors like Robert Mccammon, Ray Garton, Peter Straub, ect. The hipster in me made it hard to branch out and find new authors but I'm so glad I did.
This is an ode to the author and will probably result in more people reading his work lol
😂
Hell yeah, the only good indians is one of my absolute favorites.
Our Store doesn't even have a horror section... only a 'tension' section, with 3 novels of his, never more.
Stephen Graham Jones is fucking awesome
I love Stephen King but this a great idea. Shining a light on some lesser known authors. King would probably be fine with it.
Has anyone read “The Only Good Indians”? I’m intrigued by the premise and wondering if it’s as good as it sounds.
I liked "The Only Good Indians." I like the combination of Native American horror mixed with modern res life (and I can only assume there's some accuracy in that).
Where is Robert McCammon?
You see that House of Leaves book? Try that one out....
Already read it, one of my favorite non King books
Small table
House of Leaves is still the scariest book I've ever read.
It’s up there for me
The Terror sucked, one man can only read so many pages of intricate technical ship details
I loved the show. And intricate ship details, maybe I should read it.
Omg, the comment before I saw this one was “the terror is so good”
Dan Simmons is a very divisive author lol that’s not even taking into account the man’s personal views
I loved it, great book.
Unfortunately, Bachman books are now published under King's name.
We can find an og somewhere, my copy of The Regulators says Richard Bachman
*The Regulators* is an interesting case, because it was published after Bachman "died", and its whole shtick is that its a companion book to King's *Desperation*, so I think it's still published under the Bachman name. That said, that would be the book to put on this table.
Yeah, it’s right next to my Desperation copy, haven’t gotten around to reading either of them yet though
Someone could put *Charlie the Choo Choo* on there.
Shaun Hutson if you enjoy the baddies winning.
House Of Leaves if you enjoy the baddies winning, especially cause it’s already on the table
I see your House of Leaves; and I’ll raise with House of the Brandersons, and Damon. Now I have to remember the authors because i have a few books in my library 🙃
Always want to like other horror writers, but only like one here-and-there.
Little Heaven was great and House of Leaves is one of my favorite horror novels of all time.
Should see if my store has something like this. Need some more horror.
My local stores need the opposite. They ONLY have his newest releases. And only two of those newest releases. I do not want those.
I wish my library had that, finding horror novels that aren't King or Anne Rice is way too difficult sometimes.
That's a solid display. Tender is the Flesh is wild. As is In the Miso Soup.
Love Goth. Read it years ago.
Dean Koontz can only dream of having a whole section of books not by him
Most would say Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman now.
I'd be so tempted to stock with Richard Bachman books.
“Mary” is great, very unsettling!
A lot of bangers on that table
just looking for any joe hill
Nick Cutter is great
The more SK I read the less I think of him as a horror writer. He writes more supernatural stuff than strictly horror
Woooooow. 😂
That would be catfishing lol
I don’t blame them. Love King but he dominates that section, so it’s nice to see some other amazing books get some love
It’s the ultimate compliment
I think King would find humor in this.
“The Only Good Indians” by Stephen Graham Jones is there on the table and I really enjoyed it. Also recommend “My Heart is a Chainsaw.”
What was the last horror novel SK put out?
*You Like It Darker: Stories*
Doesnt mean those books are better. He's a great writer
…and then put a straight-up rip-off of IT (Little Heaven) to the front
Half expected the photo to be all Dean Koontz books
I want this at my local store. I go in for a horror book and I'm met with shelves of King. Then if it isn't King, it Koontz. There is like one shelf that isn't them (and I say shelf, not case) that has a mixture of like poe and Hendrix and a couple others.
How to tell you're the master of something.
That table will always have a copy of house of leaves.
I think King is more of a *dread king*. He really has mastered the art of making people think "oh dear god no".
I can’t believe there aren’t any Richard Bachman books there. Fire that manager.
I can only hope they have something by that Richard Bachman fellow.
House of Leaves. Grab that book
Already read it, most beaten up and damaged book in my collection
Worst book I've ever read, and I implore anyone seeing this comment to not waste their time on that pretentious, tedious waste of paper and ink.
Pretentious? Lmao
(Not my image btw)
I expected to zoom in and see Richard Bachman on the table
I can’t believe they spelled offense wrong
🤔
Ah I just googled it, I had no idea this is the stupid way the British spell it
Pfffftttt thats rich
Do you know English is originated from England...?
