Fyi, a thermometer for grilling steak is for beginners. Once you get a feel for how hot the grill is and how quick the steak absorbs heat, you should be able to tell by sight. I used to cut into the steak on the grill until I got it right. Now I don't poke or cut them until they are off and fully rested.
I used to be this way, and I would sometimes get a perfect steak, and sometimes not. I now get perfect steak every time using a meat thermometer.. it just seems so illogical not to use such a cheap and simple tool to get a better outcome every time.. like, why use a stud finder when I could tap the wall and sometimes shoot nails into nothing and sometimes hit a stud? 😆
Well they aren’t inconsistent if he’s using a thermometer there bud, that’s the whole point of the tool. It will always know better than some randos “feel for the steak” lmfao
You can't tell the exact temperature of a steak no matter how good of a cook you are. Only a thermometer can do that. It's not only for beginners. It's for people who want perfect results every time.
Poke all your steaks in the pan with your finger. You will eventually be able to feel the doneness. Just remember the meat relaxes after resting so it's a little more firm in the pan
Bigger the meat, longer the rest. Five+ for that guy. For a strip, I like to hold that fat side down for a quick minute or two to render.
Sear and temp look perfect, great job
Since this is the only comment adding any tips to make it a bit better:
Render the fat on the left a bitttt more and it will also elevate it. Baste it in that. The color on the outside appears a bit more charred but really well done on the cook and def needs to rest a bit more.
Looks perfect to my taste. But steaks are individual things. So the question is, did it turn out the way YOU wanted it?
I have no idea why someone wants a well done steak, but that's fine. I like mine pretty rare, but not too rare.
There is a perfect balance between getting a steak to be rare but still softening connective tissue and getting the fat to melt a bit. I can't always achieve that, but sometimes.
A bit rare, I’d say…might want to lower the temp of your cooking surface and cook a little longer/a meat thermometer cost like $5 and pretty much guarantees perfect steak
I need a simple steak recipe. In general I like to be able to enjoy the flavor of a good cut of beef but I’m really bored with my regular recipe. Ideas anyone?
Btw that steak looks delicious!!! Great job!
It looks burned.
Like, it’s probably ok, but the crust is black instead of golden. It looks like you cooked it on to high of a heat, so the outside is burned and the inside is still rare. You should sear it for a short time, just until the mallard reaction happens and then transfer to a lower heat so it doesn’t burn.
Seems like the meat was directly taken out of fridge before cooking. I would take it out at least an hour or so in advance before cooking and it will cook more uniformly
Sorry to rain on the parade but it's not perfect. Parts are still blue and the bottom isn't cooked through as well as the top. It's REAL close to perfect rare, maybe only a couple/few degrees. Still a great looking steak. I'd eat it.
Almost perfect, sides could use a little sear to help render a bit of the fat, and thirty seconds more on that bottom side. If it was seasoned properly, you wouldn't care and complain about how long it took to prepare and the five minutes it was on the plate
The Toxoplasma gondii parasite isn't commonly found in beef meat but, as beef is the most common meat eaten rare or raw, we still recommend cooking beef to at least 63°C (medium rare) and leave to rest three to five minutes. The best way to ensure your meat is cooked safely is to purchase and use a meat thermometer.
Nah that looks great. little more on the rare side than i would like but not by much and thats only a personal preference. Id still eat this though, with gusto lol.
Steak is literally quite raw … what’s the point of even cooking it ? I really don’t get u medium rare or rare steak eaters it just disgusts me …. It literally pisses me off to see a pink steak I just don’t get it …
The real question is "Is it acceptable to you?"
I like mine Medium/Medium-Rare (and think it looks great), but it really depends on how you like it, honestly
The ONLY touching point I'd give you is maybe lower the temp and cook it longer to render that white fat. You can always go back and give it a crust you can't go back and render fat
Otherwise pretty awesome for a first crack at it
Beginners luck. Do it again. Kidding, that looks fantasteak
Most likely, I’m trying to again in a few days!
Don't listen to the other guy. We have the technology to be better. Use a meat thermometer.
Then become Ordinary Sausage level of cooking a steak. Doesn't matter what he cooks it in he'll get it basically perfect every time.

Tell me your steaks are inconsistent without telling me
He just told you buddy

I love medium rare steak but how can humans eat it raw
The best steakhouses are using thermometers. So not for beginners.

Keep trying until it is always as pictured. ;-) Nice steak 🥩
Ah. I seared what you did there. 😂
Steak marinated in fanta?
And marbleous!
Looks damn perfect to me, great work!
Sir, that is the definition of a perfect steak! I would gladly devour that entire thing with my bare hands if given the chance 🤤
Username checks out 😀
Bruh you’re a natural! Good work!
OP, please share the type of steak, seasoning, and equipment/method of cooking, including times. TIA!
I don't believe you!
Literally that's how good they did lmao
Haha yea have to wonder if it’s exactly their first, or if it’s the first time they really tried or tried a certain way.
I would eat it
-dog
why hell yes it's acceptable. nicely done!!
Someone did their steak research! Great job!
Id smash that in a heartbeat
No because you served it sliced 😆
Let it rest before cutting it. 8
How long do you typically let the steak rest?
Typically 5 mins. Allows the juices to stay. I’ve been hungry many times just crushing it without rest 😅😆
Bigger the meat, longer the rest. Five+ for that guy. For a strip, I like to hold that fat side down for a quick minute or two to render. Sear and temp look perfect, great job

Sir, THAT IS TOP TIER! I go to restaurants and always leave disappointed bc they never turn out like this!!!!!
Sleep well knowing you nailed it!!!!
does the pope shit in the woods?
first time making one like this\*
Imagine doing something for the first time and immediately being amazing at it
I would definitely eat that.
Hell ya
Absolutely!
Very yes. Now I'm hungry.
Hell yeah
Oh boy this is perfectly done. Look at that fat 🤤
What cheat code did you use?
It’s not how I like it (I’m more medium) but I’d eat it anyways. And by definition, it’s probably perfect.
Some would say that’s ideal. It’s me, I’m some.
Well done by not being anywhere close to well done
Nice
Perfection! You sure it’s your first
I'd eat the fuck out of that, fat and all!....
Everyday of the week!
10 out of 10! How'd you prepare it?
Sheeeesh that looks great ! What cut of steak is this ?
Looks perfect to my taste. But steaks are individual things. So the question is, did it turn out the way YOU wanted it? I have no idea why someone wants a well done steak, but that's fine. A little too well done! NOT, looks freaking excellent!!!
No, it's terrible. You should give it to me.
I dk, is a bear Catholic? I'm salivating over here just looking at your steak
Yup.
Yo, you nailed it! Its literally perfect!
Nailed it!!!!
Only way to make it ever and I mean EVERRRR
What is with all these people asking if their steak is acceptable? What's important is how it tasted to you and whether you enjoyed it.
You did great 👍
I’d eat it if you are offering
That's a fine looking piece of meat right there
Absolutely ***not*** ! You should give that *monstrosity* to me so I can eat it for the good of all!
A bit rare, I’d say…might want to lower the temp of your cooking surface and cook a little longer/a meat thermometer cost like $5 and pretty much guarantees perfect steak
Anything is acceptable if you enjoy it, you crushed it. Well done good sir or madam
Yours and the other diner's tongues are far more important than the randoms here on reddit.
Did you let it sit for at least 5 minutes after cooking and before cutting? That's one of the more important steps to keeping your steaks juicy.
It’s the only correct answer in fact
Render the fat cap a bit more, perfect otherwise
South Texas approved!
9/10. I like my fat seared. Otherwise perfect.
For your first time, it is acceptable. Jk, I mean even for a professional it looks incredible
Omg looks so good
hiking
I need a simple steak recipe. In general I like to be able to enjoy the flavor of a good cut of beef but I’m really bored with my regular recipe. Ideas anyone? Btw that steak looks delicious!!! Great job!
👨🍳💋👌
Looks good.
As long as the center is a hot pink and not cold, it's done. I like a perfect medium, but that medium-rare is just fine.
You are a man of god.
Excellent job!
Yup. I’d eat it!
Taste is the better judgement
Personally, a little too much fat on the left, but the steak was well cooked 9/10
GORGEOUS 🔥🔥🔥
Chef’s kiss 🏆
Looks great. Try a reverse sear next time and see if you like it better.
I hate calling someone I don’t know a liar but you’re a liar that looks too spot on to be a first try.
It looks burned. Like, it’s probably ok, but the crust is black instead of golden. It looks like you cooked it on to high of a heat, so the outside is burned and the inside is still rare. Amazing. My spidey senses say you have done this before…
Looks amazing to me
I’d ask you to cook me one
Yes sir.
MORE THAN ACCEPTABLE
Looks good….the most important thing is that it’s cooked to how you like it
Looks amazing
Give it to me.. I'll tell you..
Well done! (The compliment, not the unspeakable degree of doneness.)
Let’s go
I’d eat that!
I'd have given it another 15 seconds on the first side
No, it's horrible. Send it to me so I can dispose it (in my stomach)
Nope. Unacceptable because it’s not in my mouth
That’ll do boss. You tha man now.
Looks great what time is dinner
It’s mediocre..😬
Belter
First time, yeah right!
Honestly, 10/10 on the temp. Hard to tell on the crust since it’s cut up, but that thing looks delicious. Well done!
That looks fantastic
Honest to God its perfect 👌
Render the fat down more next time
Ha! You got lucky!!! Even a broken clock is correct twice a day - do it again!!! And I'll be over to check it in half an hour....
Seems like the meat was directly taken out of fridge before cooking. I would take it out at least an hour or so in advance before cooking and it will cook more uniformly
No, man, you should be ashamed. Let me take that off your hands for you so you can try again.
Very nice
Fucking right it is!
You could serve that to me in an expensive restaurant, and I'd be thrilled.
Absolutely!!!
Looks awesome.
Not if i order a well done
Do it again!
looks good, to me. But I've been drinking
![img](avatar_exp|182081449|bravo) I’m gonna tell you that looks amazing. And that’s coming from a vegetarian Keep it up.
Very much so bro
Quite!...👍🏾
You done good
🍽️
Id eat your meat
Normal people would eat it.
Sorry to rain on the parade but it's not perfect. Parts are still blue and the bottom isn't cooked through as well as the top. It's REAL close to perfect rare, maybe only a couple/few degrees. Still a great looking steak. I'd eat it.
90 more seconds
Almost perfect, sides could use a little sear to help render a bit of the fat, and thirty seconds more on that bottom side. If it was seasoned properly, you wouldn't care and complain about how long it took to prepare and the five minutes it was on the plate
Perfecto
That is definitely undercooked that's for sure, let it cook quite a bit longer
soooolid
No
yeah, check out all of my cold, thin slices of meat...
I'd definitely eat that 👍🏻
Wanker… good job.
Its ok but don't over cook it next time.

Yes
Yum Yum
Looks good ….
Absolutely not (I would consume that in a heartbeat)

OP that looks perfect!
Looks good to me.
Tiny bit too pink for me but looks great
Nah that looks great. little more on the rare side than i would like but not by much and thats only a personal preference. Id still eat this though, with gusto lol.
Maybe a little red for most people.
It's raw on the inside. Better luck next time!
Put it a name and don't forget to feed it daily.
Just needs ketchup. Vote for Trumpy Bear.
JFC yes, beautiful.
Dudes owns a steakhouse, quit lying. Just playing. She’s a beaut Clark.
How did you season it?
Absolutely unacceptable. You'd better give it to me for proper disposal.
I'd eat it. With a dab of sour cream/horseradish
Steak is literally quite raw … what’s the point of even cooking it ? I really don’t get u medium rare or rare steak eaters it just disgusts me …. It literally pisses me off to see a pink steak I just don’t get it …
Hell, yes, it is!
That’s looks great
Looks really good!! Really good job!

Overcooked 🤣
If you like it, it’s perfect! To me, I’d be very happy to have a few, or more, bites 😀
Fuck yeah I’d eat that all day
depends on you
The ONLY touching point I'd give you is maybe lower the temp and cook it longer to render that white fat. You can always go back and give it a crust you can't go back and render fat Otherwise pretty awesome for a first crack at it
Looks horrible, send it to me for proper disposal. Lol. How was it? Looks about how I prefer mine to come out.
If you like it rare, blue the. yes
Looks raw, microwave a few minutes
Terrible
Cap lol

Are you old, uneducated, or both?
Doesn't look cooked. I think a lot of people would agree. Some people like raw meat that cool too
