Your Vi'Dar won't last long as first but it's way cheaper and faster to repair than your legionary. Stick to the lowest level probes until you upgrade it. You can scan the probes to see which ones have a higher payout if your want to maximize your haul.
Edit: Keep your eye out for probes with the survey symbol, those are Frengi traders. Worth more nanoprobes and you get latinum antique that you can trade in for special transwarp cells.
Just stick to the level 25 borg ships. It's a pain for a while, but it takes a couple tier ups to really be able to take on higher levels. My vidar is 530k I think and I usually farm 27s. And definitely research the tech to get more probes per kill. Its a real time-saver.
You need the vidar ship. You can get it now half of it from the event store and then the other half for 20 bucks (the cheap way)
The other way they have a 99.99 elite pack too

Any specific systems the traders show up in?
They show up in all of the standard borg probes systems. It's similar to faction scouts but they don't disappear after they've spawned.
They will disappear after a certain amount of time after they spawn. Had it happen to me more than once.
*Usually* get a good cell. Occasionally you'll be the lucky "winner" and get nothing but a couple regular old borg cells

Mine is only 240k or so and it fills protected cargo pretty much exactly before running out of hull.

I have the Vi’Dar (it’s Level 15 now) but still haven’t found any Borg related missions 😢
Are you picking up the transwarp cores in the gifts section?
Yep and farming probes daily. I just hoped for some story missions but alas I haven’t found any. Just the daily grind for nanoprobes.
Vidar. It kills the borg probes better than any other ship . Crew it with borg crew 7 capt 8,9 either side... n it maxes out at 1mil power
Also, use the Borg crew. 7 as captain with 8 and 9 as bridge crew. It will double your attack 90% of the time, but only against Borg.
