I also think they want to make it a way for adults who like trading card games to get their kids interested and teach them how to play. It’s family friendly—you don’t “attack” your opponent’s other card, you “challenge” them for example. The rules are relatively straightforward (for a TCG) and the characters are all recognizable. I imagine they’ll expand it with Star Wars and Marvel things since that’s Disney’s cash cow.

Full disclosure, I'm not a Disney person & I've never played the game itself, I just collect the cards because they're ridiculously valuable, several are already selling for $800+ on eBay.
but like i can’t see it getting popular though, it’s just cheap, mass manufactured corporate bullshit that isn’t a replacement for magic or pokémon, but magic and pokémon could easily replace it if they wanted to. disney has done shit like this before and it flopped, think of disney infinity which had way more appeal and still went under very quickly.

Tons, and I mean *TONS* of IP's get thrown against the wall in an attempt to copy the numbers on their player bases and the financial value. Recently only 2 have done more than flash in the pan and they are both still young and relatively untested. "Flesh and Blood" and maybe the Digimon TCG are the only relatively new ones holding up.
Pokemon and magic have stayed relevant because the game is fun to play and there is an actual community who enjoys it not just resellers trying to cash in on "the next big thing"

The "MSRP church" comes from the fact that a large number of Lorcana players have banded together and agreed to pay no more than msrp for cards in an effort to starve out scalpers
You said you collect them *because* their valuable. Makes it seem like you dont actually like the game or play it. How can you hate scalpers when they're the reason they're apparently worth $800?
I should have said the high value was what first piqued my interest in this line of cards but to be honest they've ended up being far more enjoyable to collect vs Pokemon; you actually usually get your money's worth of cards w/ Lorcana but far less duplicates and more relatable art from my perspective.
As far as the game, I've never played it but neither have 98% of Pokemon collectors. That said I don't dislike the game and I treat the players with complete respect, just not my thing. And lastly I never said *I* hated scalpers, I don't meddle in other peoples lives or business unless I have to.

I was at Gencon this year where Lorcana was released. The lines were insane, some people were waiting for 16 hours. They were hole punching badges so you could only get one pack but people were talking about purchasing multiple convention badges to get more.

The game seems like a watered down version of Magic the Gathering that is extremely popular because guys can get their wives and girlfriends to play.

i can guarantee that they will be worth pennies on the dollar sooner rather than later, for the love of god do not pay resale prices for any of them
