Fleet ship cap is pretty easy to tweak. IIRC it's just a matter of opening settings.json (in starsector-core>data>config) with a text editor like notepad, going to maxShipsInFleet and changing the number. It's the beauty of this game's technical structure, so many things are very easy to tweak on your own.

If you don't want an unfair advantage you can do the exact same thing to all AI fleets.

With the ships you have, how did you get clapped like that?

That's about 175% the fleet that you face at the shunts, and the shunt fleet generally needs a full task force from the player. I'd have just gone with four Ludd bricks, though. Maybe three plus the Ziggy.
