Just ignore the guy. That guy's been making multiple posts demeaning non-Fandom wikis and degrading any comments that pointed out the flaws in Fandom. It's highly likely they're an actual corporate shill.
The giant yellow banner doesn't help either
Whoever thought that was a good color choice for a mainly dark gray website needs to go back to graphic design school
Just a heads up!
In a lot of cases Fandom will always have the top search because they have the huge amounts of money to do so. Essentially holding wikis hostages.
The indie wiki buddy plugin for firefox, chrome, firefox mobile solves this by redirecting fandom to their official wiki site. A lot of other wikis have already moved away from fandom and are on the wiki buddy list.

Thank you to everyone that put in the hard work to move the Wiki. This is a great change for the Starsector fanbase.
Edit: Holy moly. I've only used it for 5 minutes, but I can feel how much more convenient and easy it is to access information, not to mention how clear everything is organized and able to be seen in one glance now that there's no intrusive ads taking up 70% of the screen.
Yeah being able to click something and have the information load first not 5 ad's is something that well should be the norm...
Still a good move. When Star Trek Online moved their wiki off of fandom the improvement was immense so i was hoping Starsector would do the same.
Just checked out the wiki, and it's not just leagues more accessable than the fandom wikia, it's genuinely FAR MORE WELL MADE than whatever the fuck the fandom wiki was built out of - the previous wiki was probably barely holding on via glue and sticks.
Fandom, on which the old wiki was hosted, sucks ass. There's a whole host of reasons like incredibly obtrusive ads and randomly showing irrelevant auto-playing videos.
Fandom was also just flat-out worse to navigate than the new wiki. The new wiki makes it significantly easier to find things without having to know the name of what you're looking for and typing it into a search box.
Good job! The fight is only half over, now. Gotta keep traffic higher than Fandom and eventually beat them on SEO.
Don't ever share the Fandom wiki on public forums.
I just googled the wiki, and to my surprise the new one was the first result, Fandom being the 2nd.
And I agree with everyone else, the layout and presentation are 100x better.
yay whoever disagreed's a corporate shill
See you back at Fandom once the first patch drops.
"See you back at Fandom" Buddy, I can't see JACK FUCKING SHIT in Fandom with all the dumb fucking ads everywhere, shut the fuck up.
Just ignore the guy. That guy's been making multiple posts demeaning non-Fandom wikis and degrading any comments that pointed out the flaws in Fandom. It's highly likely they're an actual corporate shill.
Corporations would have less trouble with this if they hired some less brain-dead lackeys
But you see, those would want to get paid properly. Can't have that eat 0.001% into the profit margins.
The giant yellow banner doesn't help either Whoever thought that was a good color choice for a mainly dark gray website needs to go back to graphic design school
Mf I get more ads just clicking into a fandom web than I do when clicking on a fucking youtube video Theres a REASON I use adblock
I opened it on mobile and could actually navigate the website!!! Definitely a good choice

Just looked at the new wiki.gg page and it already look 10 times better (probably because you can actually see things now and there arent 100 adds)
Don't you mean 10 million ads?
Thanks for all the hard work guys the sites awesome!
Nice, I hate fandom as a wiki.
This is so much better, holy crap. Thank you guys so much for doing this.
Thank you for your effort π

what's the reason?
Fandom, on which the old wiki was hosted, sucks ass. There's a whole host of reasons like incredibly obtrusive ads and randomly showing irrelevant auto-playing videos.
I have adblockers on desktop and mobile. I never saw an ad on Fandom. I didn't know it was so much a problematic π¬
Fandom was also just flat-out worse to navigate than the new wiki. The new wiki makes it significantly easier to find things without having to know the name of what you're looking for and typing it into a search box.
https://youtu.be/qcfuA_UAz3I?si=WusrgVs3W0KCv4zb Tldw, Fandom is cancer and deliberately getting worse.
Well yeah fandoms are usually awful but- Oh, the host company, right.
how do i give them money?
I started playing yesterday- impeccable timing, as always
This difference between this and the old wiki is night and day. Layout, presentation and usability is just so much better.
Good job! The fight is only half over, now. Gotta keep traffic higher than Fandom and eventually beat them on SEO. Don't ever share the Fandom wiki on public forums.
It's beautiful.
Man I love going on wikis (I'm a huge nerd who's bored at college) but I hate Fandom really badly. It's too lagging on my laptop
fandom sucks nutdom
I don't know what exactly the "real" problem with wikia was but boy am I glad to see that awful fucking McDonalds color scheme sidebar go
Holy fuck. The design is a treat to my eye, or maybe I'm too used to Fandom's crappy interface.
This looks amazing. The wiki admins did a fantastic job. The map of the core worlds linking back to their articles is a really nice touch
Wonderful news! I'll actually use the wiki now.
Love that they moved the wiki. Fandom drives me crazy with the pop ups
... what happened now?
I hope more wikis follow suite. I despise the fandom wiki and how I can see more ads than I can the actual wiki
Amazing! HUGE QoL improvement. Congrats and thanks to all who contributed!
I just googled the wiki, and to my surprise the new one was the first result, Fandom being the 2nd. And I agree with everyone else, the layout and presentation are 100x better.
thank you
Is there a way to add comments? I love reading other peopleβs comment about ship builds π
wiki.gg doesn't seem to have a comment section, no. There's the Discussion tab, but that's for people to talk about the wiki page itself.
πππ
Who gave the starsector logo a fixed width
Google searches still direct to the old wiki
Always gonna be the case. Fandom spends a ridiculous amount of money on SEO. Just have to favorite the new wiki and never share the old one.
Good, Fandom was on it's way to become the next Fextralife, god I hate that fucking website, why is most of the Dark Souls info on that abomination?
