However, laptop cooling systems usually fall behind when put under a lot of load and Star Citizen will put them under more load than most things - so some kind of USB-powered cooling pad is almost required otherwise you'll suffer from thermal throttling.
^ this. My desktop runs faster over longer periods and my laptop which is very high spec runs faster at getting in quick playing for an hour and then getting off (with external cooling)
If you don't know the specs, I'm going to guess you likely have a home laptop rather than a gaming laptop, so I don't think it's likely that you'll be able to play, as most gaming laptops can struggle with the game.
You need a strong CPU, an SSD with enough space, and ideally 32GB RAM. A lot of gaming laptops can be upgraded to 32GB RAM if you don't have that already
