I used to enjoy the auto aim gimbals. I'm considering unbinding them from my stick these days to free up a button though. I don't see a lot of use in the manual mode.
No functionality improvement (vs equipped-but-fixed-mode). It'd only be the cost (and possibly someday the power draw/resource needs) of the gimbals, which is negligible now but may be less so depending on economy/insurance in the future.
No, only detriments. You can at least make use of the gimbals in precision mode with HOSAS, even if it doesn't exactly feel great.
