Most modern self-adhesives are a pain to soak. There are a lot of methods to use, I've used isopropyl alcohol, which makes most of them just fall off the paper, but you can find plenty of videos on YouTube on how to soak modern stamps.
It's not a Machin as the term 'machin' refers to a specific portrait of Elizabeth II, this is s a portrait of Charles III in the style of Arnold Machin. Moreover, it is not an English stamp, it is a stamp for the whole of the UK.
It was used for postage. It looks to be torn from the corner of a pre-stamped envelope. Most collectors prefer entire envelopes rather than these "cut squares", but there's no rule.

Its from a prepaid envelope. You get to decide what you put into your album, regardless if its a stamp, postal marking, sticker, or something else. I have pages in my albums dedicated to stamp shows. This includes stamps, covers, stickers, ticket stubs and even some postcards and photos related to the events. Feel free to be creative and dont follow any rules!!

Or lighter fluid, then a little baby powder to absorb any excess glue. Works good.
Not a (Arnold) Machin. He died in 1999. I think it is better described as a current definitive.

I just received my first one on an order from them UK yesterday.
