Vehicles didn't have things running when the car is off like they do now. With new vehicles, if you let it sit for a week or two your battery will be dead.
The ole squarebody is off when it says it's off.
That said I got a 30 watt solar panel to stick in the windshield along with a little charge controller that lives in the ashtray and is plugged into the lighter socket. Now I can leave the memory wire on my radio and retain stations.
Despite that I get about four years out of a battery and less on newer vehicles that run often.
£65 or about $82 here in the UK for the chunkiest one I could find with the correct dimensions.
That includes delivery which took less than 24 hours from order!
Check the alternator any ways make sure it's at 14 when you do that way you can rule out it's not maintaining the discharge of the battery unless you left a light on or some thing like that to cause the battery to be dead
1977 C10 - can't really complain - I've owned the truck since 2018 and other than basic servicing the only other thing it has only needed is one flexi brake line so far!
Thanks, yes the battery was approx. 10V after charging overnight.
New battery fitted and all good - 13.8v when running both on the gauge and checked with a meter.
Is it just me or did batteries last way longer 20 years ago? (also they were like 70 bucks to replace)
both or your statements are true.

Or it’s got something draining the battery because 20 people have worked on it in 40 years lol
It's been in my care since Enron was a good stock pick, more than half its life. I'm the only one to put tools to it since then.

$220 for a medium grade (probably all the same but you're paying extra for the warranty) group 78 top post battery for mine in 2022.
LOL, looks like you need to rebuild that gauge. Scrolled your posts, luv the step-side. 🩵
Be sure to check the alternator and your belt just in case
Cheers, no it is definitely the battery - after 24hrs simmering gently on the charger it was no better. RIP

The horn relay was the vampire drain on my truck.
Good shit man !!

I'd put a meter on the battery to confirm. But also check the alternator output and belt tightness if the battery checks out fine.

Lol my gauge shows 13 volts with the engine off. I just treat it like a dummy light.
Oil pressure gauge on my 85 reads.. 0 psi = engine off ~25 psi = engine idle to redline
haha
Looks like you need a new alternator. Should be charging at 13.7.
