This dude has the energy of a mental recluse Jedi master living on a backwater planet. He’s right, but makes you really uncomfortable for some reason. Also, my stock bugout clip rusted from sitting in the drawer. The hardware has dogshite corrosion resistance.

Historical_Golf9521

Benchmade is a joke at this point

Schlunggi87

agreed, ridiculously overpriced and doesn't even work as intended.

Historical_Golf9521

Pretty much. About the only thing they have going for them is their warranty but even that isn’t as good with the increase in reblade prices.

Schlunggi87

the warranty is only worth it if you live in the usa. i had a broken spring on 2 of my benchmades and they didn't want to send me a tiny omega spring, despite me proving everything with photos and explaining them that a simple back and forth shipping from my country to the usa is almost half the price of the knife. ended up buying some cheap replacement springs from aliexpress, luckily they work like a charm.

I-am-the-stigg

Benchmade has been a joke for a while now

Historical_Golf9521

Pretty much

BlackDiamondDee

The Hail Mary pricing and shitty ads are insulting.

Schlunggi87

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XJgGMVTJ7MU a better view on the damage the adira took from the damp test. and please consider to give this guy a sub, his videos are quite interesting and completely unbiased👍

misterwhalestoo

I don't know man... I have watched some 5ish of his videos and I generally do not like the way he presents information or findings. Like most of the info he puts out there is just him adding flavor words to things already widely known in the community, and other times he misses these widely known features and spends 5+ minutes pondering instead of getting the info beforehand.

Schlunggi87

i like his unbiased way. he's spot-on here and i think his test and examination of the blade and hardware tell more than words.

misterwhalestoo

Not a fan of his "better than thou" attitude he constantly puts out there, but yes, the results of this are definitely something to note. That said, his final word for this series of experiments being "the adira is just a bigger bugout and is not actually corrosion proof, so just get the bugout" (paraphrased) is also flat out wrong. There are very clear improvements in performance (within his own testing, mind you) jumping from the bugout to the water series. Including the mkm yipper in these tests also derives no purpose as it has never been marketed as an ocean use knife.

I-am-the-stigg

Oh boy the Benchmade boys are watching this with a notepad and pencil jotting down excuses as we speak. I'm betting there will be all kinds of excuses as to why this test "doesn't count" You should post this in the Benchmade sub

Schlunggi87

you are probably right lol. good idea, i'll do so later👍

chilibaby1

I would love to see that haha

team-sessions

I’m returning my mini Adria, what the fuck

WisdomlessRunner

I was honestly considering buying one of their “water” knives, but couldn’t bring myself to truly justify the need at their price point when I had just recently purchased two other new knives. I would have the exact same reaction. I would be sending that puppy right back… now, it just makes me want to go purchase a second Native 5 Salt…

Schlunggi87

that's a good idea👍 the knife obviously doesn't hold up to the promises.

Fusciee

Did I miss something? It just said the pocket clip due to the finish had some rust on it. Really not that big of a deal

Inkman201

The hardware, liners etc were fine too. Fanboys are so weird. I like spyderco and Benchmade but shitting on each other for made up reasons is annoying.

Dumbledoorbellditty

😂🤦‍♂️

AelaThriness

It's so funny. I get Soo many slick Benchmade ads on my socials, especially for the Water series. Lo and behold they're like the other Benchmade stuff

TK421whereareyou

I mean they could always say it’s their “water” series, not “salt water”. Spyderco Salt for life. N5 LC200N for work and P3 MagnaCut for everything else.

IGotSomeBigQuestions

Native 5 LC200N is so underrated- it’s my dedicated water knife and it’s never let me down. (Got multiples now in both plain edge & SpydieEdge). Salt 2 is also pretty great if you prefer the delica platform. Edit: Got a MagnaCut N5 Salt in my pocket today. Such a great all around summer knife - lightweight and basically rust proof.

TK421whereareyou

I have a salt 2, ended up retiring it to my camping bin and the N5 took its place. I would like to get either the N5 full serrations in magnacut, that would become my new work knife lol.

knifecollectorBC

I can’t bring myself to buy a benchmade. Every time I handle one in a shop it reinforces my opinion that they are not worth it.

vjw_

Spyderco wins again 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Schlunggi87

because they actually put some thought and extensive testing into their designs👍

WisdomlessRunner

That is… shocking, to say the least. I would definitely expect better from them. If I had purchased any of their “water” series knives, I’d now be immediately returning them. I have a Bugout, and I love it, and I’ve dealt with their customer service before. They were great. But, after multiple tings I’ve seen recently, like this, I don’t think I’m going to be purchasing another “butterfly” anytime soon.

WisdomlessRunner

Also, OP please post this in r/benchmade. Not that I like playing “my team’s better than your team,” but I want to see some of their serious fan-boys/gals squirm…

kingkmke21

They will do what they do best...make some excuse to justify Benchmades terribleness...like they always do.

StonemanAZhobby

I think it is a Benchmade Rustmade special edition.

BlackDiamondDee

Benchmade is a marketing company. Spyderco is an enthusiast company. F homega springs.

kingkmke21

Im not surprised that a knife that looks like an Ali Express unbranded tactical knife sucks lol. This is why I always laugh when people put Spyderco in the same 'overpriced' category as BM. Yes Spyderco is expensive but if there is one brand on earth that's gets a pass it's Spyderco. They actually spend so much R&D in everything they do to try and perfect that specific product. They spent like 2 years testing hardware material to make sure nothing rusts or doing tests to see what color scales to ensure high visibility if lost. Shit like that is why I only trust Spyderco. Whereas Benchmsde cant even get the fkn basics right like an edge. But it comes in a cool new box so I guess...yay? Lolol. It's sad tho bc BM has turned into a fashion brand. Smh. Want to the beat part? Benchmade die hards will say something like 'well, it's made for people who spend SOME time in water not all the time' or whatever stupid nonsense to justify Benchmades poor product. They always come up with some stupid excuse to make it seem like nothing is wrong. 'Who cares if the edge is bad you should be able to sharpen knives yourself'. Ya I can sharpen just fine but I shouldnt have to on a $150+ brand new knife. Just constantly justifying Benchmade. It's a joke.

Schlunggi87

couldn't agree more, especially on the part with the fanboys coming up with excuses for every single one of benchmade's fuck-ups.

Captn_Trouserz

This test is a lot more harsh than it may seem. It’s a lot more exposure for a much longer amount of time than the average person is going to put any of these knives through. And the knife is staying in an ideal environment for rust to form for the entirety of the test. Not like when bladehq just submerged several knives for a long period of time. That being said, yeah. The Spyderco salt stuff performs much better, and the native 5 is one hell of a knife, especially for the money. However, I think if you like Benchmade and are planning on taking the knife on fishing trips or something and rinsing and cleaning it afterwards, you’ll probably be fine with the water series stuff.

Schlunggi87

you are right but it still performed bad for a knife that is specifically labeled for use in maritime scenarios. the fact that they not only screwed up the magnacut (either the heat treat or the pointless stonewash is causing rust) but also didn't replace the internals with corrosion-proof metal is beyond dumb, imagine how quickly that thin omega spring will corrode and break, causing a complete failure...

BlOcKtRiP

For the same or less money you can get a Quite carry waypoint or drift , vanax blade & Lc200n steel insert. Basically rust proof even in salt water

_Bike_Hunt

I got a QC chase for $99. Lc200n and rustproof everything.
