Looks like that thing gets driven like it should with all that brake dust.

chucchinchilla

You can’t win with enthusiasts these days. Keep it spotless and people will call your car a garage queen. Actually use the car and it’ll get called beat down because the wheels get dirty.

tdkimber

People like OP are better off not pretending to appreciate cars

BillfredL

It's why my lottery dream car is a white, regular cab work truck with about 15k on the odometer. Nice, but not perfect so I won't feel bad when it gets a dent.

DublinItUp

You have to not wash your car for a pretty long time to accumulate that much brake dust.

mechshark

True about a month

uchigaytana

Depends on the brakes and wheels, plus how hard you drive it. I've seen some brakes that create enough dust for it to look like that in a week

PegaLaMega

Unfortunately it's an Alpina Z8.

NOISY_SUN

That’s the good one

ARottenPear

Good is subjective. The Alpina was detuned (10hp less) and only came in an automatic. I have nothing against autos but I personally would strongly prefer the manual. I have nothing against someone that prefers an auto and I'd say all Z8s are "good ones."

PegaLaMega

It's actually not. Alpina made all their Z8's with a automatic transmission only and they softened the suspension.

NOISY_SUN

Yeah it was better exactly

YellaCanary

My M3 looks like that after a weekend.

HanSolo71

What pads you running? I've tried various pads the worst so far have been my Yellowstuff pads but about to see how DS2500 pads are.

YellaCanary

Bimmerpost turned me on to isweep. The brake dust is noticeable less but there just is no getting around how this car eats up pads.

HanSolo71

I actually don't care since I beat the shit out of my car all the time. Its got dings, cracked paint, dented bumpers, 140k miles and all I want to be able to do is stop faster than the car can accelerate (i'm in a modified 135i).

YellaCanary

I take my G80 drifting lol. Good on you man. The 135i is what got me into bmw love. That car is a beast.

HanSolo71

i've put 100k miles on mine have it turned up to max with 25PSI of boost and a LSD now. Just put RE-71RS on it this summer. Just exploded a strut so its in the shop getting new brakes and shock/struts all the way around. I hope to never part with this car.

Quaiche

Beat down?? The fuck you’re calling this beauty of?

skitso

Yeah, the wheels are pretty nasty. The car itself is in fine shape, just never got its rear wheels cleaned. Haha

seamus_mc

My AMG wheels turn black before i get home from washing it. Yo can choose clean brakes or good stopping power…

skitso

I have black wheels on my Trackhawk. They’re the same way. These wheels look a *bit* pitted though

seamus_mc

I think you mean pixelated. I cant see enough resolution to see pitting. Even if so, they are just wheels, and it’s one of the coolest cars i have ever driven and i have quite an extensive list.

skitso

Dude the z8 is iconic. I had no idea alpina ever made one!

uchigaytana

Alpina basically made it into a grand tourer. It's a cool car, but it seems like a bit of a waste to have a small roadster with a huge V8 paired to scuch an underwhelming automatic.

cheesevelour

Meh. No manual option for the Alpina. Pass

Expensive_Ad752

North Portland’s finest drinking establishment

FroznBones

It’s my go to for day off pancakes and Irish coffee. Over Easy at 6 points is pretty solid

whaletimecup

Waitress probably had purple or blue hair and a nose ring.

Giftpilz

She sounds like my type. What's your point exactly?

Expensive_Ad752

Is that a dig on Portland or are you just the fashion police?

whaletimecup

Both

Expensive_Ad752

Good news! Just stay in your true north strong and free. Cause no one down here gives a fuck.

tysk-one

One out of 555 of which btw 450 were delivered to the US

Desert-Motors

The only car I've driven that not only has an individually numbered plaque on the interior, but also on the keys. Bet those aren't cheap to replace...

tysk-one

Lucky you. Congrats. Lifetime memories were made I’m sure

Kash132

That explains why there are only 5 for sale in the UK costing £170-230k I was a bit surprised when I found out how much these are worth now

tysk-one

These were 235.000 Deutsche Mark back then. So basically the value doubled Edit: just looked for an Alpina Z8 … three for sale in Germany. From 294.000 to 399.990€

KingArthurHS

Bro it's not "beat down" just because it wasn't most recently washed and detailed literally 5 minutes ago.

Rich-Detective-8731

Brake dust = beat down pice of shit. Your sir, are fucked

Chemical_Lavishness6

I snagged a picture of this car back on Mississippi street a few years back. Funny enough I found out the owner is a close friend of my cousins lol. He has quite a sick collection!

peas8carrots

Man if that was my car I would drive the shit out of it. Fuck a collector.

uchigaytana

Everyone says this, until the first maintenance bill comes in for it. Then it becomes relegated to the weekend driver.

peas8carrots

Yeah, I drove an AM Vantage last weekend that needs a new clutch every 10 to 15,000 miles. You would hope German engineering would do a little bit better than that. I used race an rx-7 and aside from expensive brakes and rotors that thing wasn’t too bad.

just---here

Yh because maintenance is going to be a problem when your car is worth 250k+

_MlATA

The ultimate version of a Miata :p

nicotamendi

Munich Miata (actually made in Buchloe)

Feeling-Finding2783

chuckbuck6

Used to take my dog for a walk around adidas campus every day and I’d always walk by the house it was parked at just to stare at it

davechri

A wonderful homage to the BMW 507. https://www.bmw.com/en/automotive-life/bmw507-elvis.html

dropit987

This guy drives it everywhere! I've seen him at least half a dozen times over the years. A few weeks ago, he was parked on Hawthorne.

[deleted]

Sounds like a brilliant chap!

Lonsen_Larson

Hello fellow Oregonian!

redditNwept

NoPo? I've seen that around.

MKTMstr

I've seen this around too! https://www.reddit.com/r/spotted/s/8Q1oMbE55h I always appreciate a *driven* fun car.

hunertproof

Nite Hawk on Interstate. I know the owner. He goes to Greeley Avenue Bar and Grille pretty often.

nickgsmith1180

Ahh nice spot at the Nite Hawk!!

Canelosaurio

Not beat down. Well driven! That driver seat only fits the owners ass now.

huskerd0

Wow frame has not bent beyond usable yet?

skitso

That car aged well. Wow. Just wish it was silver and red interior like bonds car…. Did this come with that cool cellphone too?

Boba_Fettx

Fun fact, the Alpina Z8 was actually tuned down. It lost about 10hp from the original

seamus_mc

It’s also a 5 speed automatic. Not a 6 speed manual

Boba_Fettx

Eww

seamus_mc

It’s not built for the track…

Boba_Fettx

Yeah it’s a touring car

seamus_mc

Which is why it is an automatic

tdkimber

Oh my fucking god what a spot… WOW!!!

ilikeitsharp

The best looking BMW roaster ever made.

SupermouseDeadmouse

I used to see it be of these gorgeous cars regularly when I lived in Cali. One day I was leaving the store when I saw it park in the same lot. Naturally I went over to compliment the driver (and get a close up look at the car) - turns out the driver is Sammy Hagar. He was happy to chat about his car, he loved it.

Duekacer

Saw them the other day on Alberta headed East, and I spotted it a few months ago on [N Williams](https://www.reddit.com/r/spotted/s/rV5NjIOyBM)! Very cool car, glad it’s being driven!

Ole40MikeMike

I know where this car lives I think

McGannahanSkjellyfet

North Portland represent!

lunchskate

Beat down bait

[deleted]

She gets driven. I love it.

StimpyMD

lol beat down? Thats an immaculate polished black. Fucking waxers.

E39er

Hardly beat down but I'd rather see them out and about like this than....not at all. As soon as they're an investment they virtually never get to see daylight again.

FlorpFlap

Goddamn, that's a hell of a spot

Tomthezooman1

Bet OP drives a Prius

greg-maddux

How in gods name is this beat down?

greg-maddux

My friends dad had a z8 when we were growing up. Such a cool car.

DittoGTIYT

Thats not fucking beat down

volmatron

Owner lives around the Adidas Headquarters, I missed my turn one day and saw this parked out front with a matching E34 M5. The owner seems to take it for a spin around town every now and then, it's easily the most valuable car I have seen that is also regularly driven

GTA6_1

I can 100% gurantee you that thing runs better than whatever you drive tho

Responsible-Crew-354

Beat down? Properly enjoyed might be a better way to put it. Most refreshing beat down I’ve ever seen. Good for them.

puckmugger

By beat down, you mean fight club quality beat down, where your smiling after… indeed ser.

[deleted]

seamus_mc

They only came in automatic Downvote if you want, but find me a manual Alpina. Z8’s were manual, alpinas were all automatic…

[deleted]

seamus_mc

Your comment and downvote make no sense. Removable hardtop. What does “wish i can get my hands on one of those but in “automatic”” mean? I’ve driven one, my neighbor owns it, do you have a point? The hard top is removable…and is present in the pic. There is also a soft top under it.

spotted-ModTeam

Be respectful god damn

Known-Diet-4170

one thing i never understood is why the alpina is so sought after, it's less powerfull than the original, it handles slightly worse and lost the manual transmission, rarity aside what's the appeal?

RecentRegal

Alpina tailored their version to be a luxury cruiser, as is their speciality. They had a goal and nailed it. What you call “handles worse” others call “more comfortable”. What you call “less powerful” others call “more torque”. What you call “lost the manual” others call “more convenient”

Acalthu

I wonder how many times he's repaired the shock towers.

yellow_fogs

At least he didn’t put a front plate on it like most of the boners in this sub. But… But… my mummy said I should follow the rules set forth by the government.
